Anyone having a weird desire to birth?

Y'all, I am having this NEED to have this baby.  I would describe it as an instinctual need to birth. Is anyone else experiencing this?  The problem is I haven't had contractions  (just an intensity in baxton hicks and rarely some period cramps) or any other symptoms of labor!  I can't seem to think of anything else, whereas a week ago I was still scared of labor and birth.
I know logically that I'll never get this time back and I should be enjoying it before I become a FTM but like I said, it seems instinctual, primal, even.
What is up?
Oh, I'm 39+2.  Each week I efface more. As of last Monday ( a week ago) I was 80% effaced and 1 cm.

  • I'm excited. Can't wait to meet my second babe, become a family of four and see if babe is a boy or a girl.
I'm not nervous about the labour and delivery. I has a long labour with my first, but all in all how I imagined/planned. Just very excited with a teeny bit of apprehension at how my toddler is going to react.
    Already November tomorrow!!!

Don't get too excited. It pretty much all around sucks lol...if you get an epidural, keep your eye on the bag. Mine went dry for a few hours and I didn't even know it and wondering why I had level 10 pain in my hip lol...thank God my husband alerted my nurse. They kinda dropped the ball there.
  • Aw! It's completely natural and it's your body and mind preparing you for labor. You will do great! Follow your instincts ;)
  • Birth is a primal experience! Have you read Ina Mae'a guide to childbirth? I'd recommend it - especially if you are planning a med-free birth, and it will help enforce that more instinctual feeling.

  • I don't know if I will ever feel that kind of desire to "birth". When the possibility of scheduled CS came up, I can't express the joy I felt in knowing I was going to meet her soon, and I honestly do not care one bit how it happens, whether through the birth canal or an incision. I just want to take care of her more than anything, but I could care less about the method she arrives. Maybe something wrong with me? I have zero fear/apprehension about it too, oddly calm for a FTM!

  • No. I just want him out. Labor and Delivery sucks. It's painful and exhausting. I'm not looking forward to it. I just want my baby. Today would be nice.

  • I hit that point the day after my baby shower(36+5). I was ready and we were doing all the typical things to get labor going. One night (,I was feeling restless) we went for a 4 mile walk that only ended because I had to pee and I was starting to swell up. I tried the exercise ball. TMI: We had some really great sex. In hindsight I'm a little relieved that nothing worked to kick start contractions since I would have probably ended up with an emergency c section instead of a planned one and that would have been way more stressful and dramatic but I definitely understand your feelings of wanting to get things rolling.
