I was told 2 weeks as well re driving after c-section. I drove 14 days pp with no issues. Driving isn't just tied to pain meds though, it has to do with your incision as well because you have to use your abdominal muscles. It's the same with limiting stairs.
we went to dinner with LO and DS a couple hours after we were discharged from the hospital. Target at one week...And a children's museum for DS at 2 weeks old.
We did our first outing to Target at about 3 weeks old. I was starting to lose my mind being locked up inside the house. Today we went to Walmart and the cashier, who looked about 19 made a comment about 4 weeks is too small to be out. I just kept my mouth shut.
I'm *suppose* to be homebound for three months, culturally. But after I went to the Dr, about a week an a half post discharge we went to the grocery store. And I took her on public transport when she was 3 weeks old. I just always baby wear. We sneak out of the house at least once a week, but I'm hoping to just start taking her out walking this week. Tanzanian culture is just so crazy about it, any time anyone sees me out with her I just have to lie and say we went to the Dr.
We went out a couple days after he was born. I get too crazy staying inside 24/7. Cal will be 3 weeks old on Friday so I don't feel so bad about it anymore
We went out at one week and have tried to do a small outing every day. I think it helps all of our sanity. The library was a bad choice but other than that it's been fine!
We've done one outing almost everyday since I felt good enough to move around post c-section. Nobody has judged us yet that I'm aware of...maybe silently?

Last night baby fell asleep in my husbands arms and when we went to put her down in her crib, she would not wake up, we could see that she was breathing, but she was basically limp and in a super deep sleep. normally she'll wake pretty easily if we touch a cheek, move her, etc, but it took a good minute to get her up. It sared the crap out of us and now I'm pretty worried.
My discharge paperwork said 2 weeks to drive. Which is today! I never took any painkillers besides Advil, but as someone else said it's more for the incision and muscles required for driving. But I also don't know how driving is helpful if I can't lift the car seat!
I'm not concerned about taking her out but how are you all managing feeding?!
So far we took her to walmart and trick or treating. Both were only between an hour or two total (with drive time) and I feed her right before we left and she still woke up hungry crying before we could get back home.
Im breast feeding and doing that out really isn't an option since she'll stay latched and eating for like an hour!
I was supposed to wait 2 weeks to drive...I made it 12 days because H got called in to work and baby had an appointment. As far as going out, we stopped at Kmart on the way home from the hospital and have been out most days since. I just keep him covered and in the seat away from people as much as possible. I'm not going to stay cooped up now when it's nice out, because then I'll go crazy when it gets cold and I don't want to go out.
@maf9866 my babe only eats for 10-20 minutes usually so I just feed him in the car if he can't wait until we get back home.
I really need her to cut down on the time she is latched and eating. I just don't know how. She is actively eating 2/3rds of the time and if I unlatch her prematurely she will flip out and still search for me.
I was told no driving until my follow up, which is this Friday at 4 weeks PP. I hate all of you who were only told 2 weeks lol. I love being at home with Reagan, but I feel like I'm on house arrest most days
@maf9866 - I either will BF her while out, or give her a bottle. She doesn't feed for as long as yours though - if she still acts hungry after 10-20 minutes per breast she gets formula.
@CopperBoom86 4 weeks seems so long, but as mentioned 2 weeks doesn't mean anything if you're not supposed to lift the car seat. So I'll probably wait until my 4 week checkup to go anywhere alone.
My doc told me 2 weeks of no driving too. But it wasn't an issue for me, since LO was in the NICU for 2 weeks, so I didn't have to worry about taking him anywhere. But my first trips out with me driving were after DH got home from work or on the weekend so I could go to church or Starbucks or the store just to get out alone.
My only issue with driving (and riding) was that the lap belt part of the seatbelt hit right at my incision, which was painful or uncomfortable. When riding I would hold the seatbelt away from me, but I couldn't do that while driving. Just something to think about!

Yes! I forgot about that. The dr did mention that as another reason. The belt is right over the incision so I guess they're worried about impact if you were to get into an accident before your incision has healed. I did the same thing holding it away from me when I was a passenger.
Today is our 2 year anniversary and we just went to dinner. I had my first glass of wine in 10 months and LO slept the whole time. Couldn't have worked out better! It felt so good to get semi dressed up and put on makeup. I even sat in the front seat for the first time instead of next to his car seat. It's amazing how just that little thing made me feel a sense of normalcy.

re: bfing while out. One day I ended up having to bf on the side of the road waiting for the public bus on one of the busiest roads in town. With a burp rap as a cover... haha. In Tanzania public breast feeding is totally the norm but I still feel a little weird about it. And I think as a white woman I still get weird looks from some people.
LO had her first full blown screaming session last night thanks to gas and gas drops. She's been having some minor gas pains after feeding, so the doc recommended trying gas drops....HORRIBLE mistake!! the drops took her minor gas and made it 100x worse, so she was miserable for a few hours, I felt so bad for her. We threw the drops rright into the trash can and I do not recommend!
My MIL is here to visit the baby and while I appreciate some time to myself, I think she's judging me. Not to mention interrupting my Sex and the City marathon.
