Opinions about vibrating mattress

I ordered my baby furniture this weekend from The Baby's Room and ordered mattresses too. They showed me a vibrating mattress that has a little switch on the side to turn on a vibration if the babies are having a rough night or a hard time falling asleep. They are an extra $40 per mattress. What are your thoughts about this? Are they worth it? or should I not buy into the hype and just get a regular mattress? Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Opinions about vibrating mattress

  • Hmmm...seems great and really bad at the same time. While it's nice to have sleep aids, it's also something you have to break later. Though, I don't have twins and it might be a really great "nice to have".

  • Yeah- he definitely said not to use it every night. Only when things get 'real bad'!!! :) Thanks for your thoughts!!!

  • We have a device that goes over the crib rail and has a vibrating disk under the mattress.  The part that is on the crib rail also has a light and can play music or nature sounds as well as turn on the vibrating.  It also has a motion sensor so that it will vibrate for 10 minutes and then shut off and then if the baby moves, it will start vibrating again at any time during the night in 10 minute intervals or when the baby moves.  I got it at Target and I love it! I think it was around $25??? If I can find a link, I will post it! It has been a life saver in the middle of the night!

  • We have this exact mattress, and let me tell you.....it HAS saved me a couple of nights!  It helps sometimes to literally put it on for a minute when he is drowsy but awake.  It just helps put him out!

  • DO NOT DO IT! Our pack and play had the vibration feature and it was more of a curse than a blessing. At first it was great but then he got very used to always sleeping with some kind of motion/vibration. No one needs to be vibrated/rocked that much. Also if baby is used to it and you travel and it's absent you might have problems. We got to a point where Colin needed the vibration and it then became painful to break him of it.

  • Our bassinet had a vibrating function and it was wonderful! We never had any trouble when we stopped using it. There were so many times that it helped LL fall asleep, so I would highly recommend getting it.

  • Thank you to those who responded! I had already ordered them and was thinking about changing my mind- but I am going to stick with my original plan to get them. It seems as though it will come in handy!! :)
