  • @jamielynn3280090808 did you post it on Facebook like you were expecting people to go buy the stuff on the registry?  Or just like funny situation...haha?

  • @JonesBaby0624 Funny situation- not to buy- I used aliases so it wouldn't be findable I just wanted the registry completion coupon! I had no idea wish-lists for kids birthdays were a thing
  • @jamielynn3280090808 your in-laws are being ridiculous.  I had people complain about my making an amazon wish list for my son for Christmas.  I thought it would make it easier than everyone calling and saying "what does he want...what should we get".  Apparently it ticked some off because they felt like I was telling them how much to spend on him.

  • @jamielynn3280090808, they really ARE a thing. Prime example: I have a neighbor who, every year!, sends out kids bday party invites and they always include the registry number. It's super tacky. I am cringing right now just thinking about it! It's like, you can't come to the party without a present from this list. I hate it, lol.
  • I have a food confession. Sometimes I dip my steak into ranch dressing.  :o
  • That said, I think using a registry for personal reasons, for ideas and to keep track, and like you said, for a joke, is a perfectly fine idea. Making a list specifically for other people is just wrong.
  • One of my close friend's family does the Amazon wish list for Christmas, which is essentially a Christmas gift registry. I always thought that was weird.

@clebl24 I think it's weird and tacky when people post it to the general public or include it in invitations.
However, if I ASK what the child is interested in, I wouldn't be offended or find it tacky to get an Amazon wish list.

Sometimes it does make it easier.

I I had a friend that tried telling me one year what to buy for her son for his birthday. She did it more than once and I was so infuriated with her. She lacks on some social skills and I told her more than once to stop dictating how I spend my money on her son.

l don't have my own FFFC yet but if I think of one, I'll be back b

  • @sarah0985 exactly!!  I have never made my son's gift list public or sent it to people.  However, with family all over the country it is easier to direct them to his list....IMO.

  • @JonesBaby0624 I totally agree, having a list for personal reasons, and having it handy to share if asked, is a practical and sensible idea.
  • @jonesbaby0624 especially if the child is into specific items which happens when they get older. I know that my parents STILL ask for a Christmas list from me and my sisters. And we are all in our 30's. I ask my parents for specifics of anything they'd like.

Like I said, nothing wrong with a list, but when it's given out without being requested is when it crosses to weird and gift grabby IMO.

ESPECIALLY if it's posted as a Facebook status prefaced with "if anyone wants to buy my kid(s) something for Christmas/birthday/whatever this is what you can get them" is when I give major side eye.

  • We do an amazon list for DD because her birthday is around Christmas. I like it because it helps keep track of things to get her. Our family has enjoyed that we keep it updated so out of town family have an easy way to send something and it helps keep her aunts/uncles from buying the same gifts.

My confession: I had my first appointment yesterday and while everything was great I'm sad we didn't get an u/s like we did with dd. It feels like we will be waiting forever to see this baby -12 more weeks to the anatomy scan.
  • We also do Amazon wishlists for Xmas and birthday.  I like the scan option because DD enjoys cruising the Target toy aisle and telling me what she'd like to put on her list.  I can just scan the UPC and save it to her Amazon list.  Unless the toys are Target exclusive, they are almost always a bit cheaper on Amazon.  And it keeps her from demanding we buy something that day. We don't publicize it and only send it out when requested.

Some of my family members do this as well. I have family scattered around the U.S., so it is nice to know what to get the younger kids that I don't know personally. Amazon makes it very convenient, because it sends it directly to them.

  • Husband came home last night and said he was offered a 9 month deployment but he was going to ask about splitting it.

I lost my shit on him.

He called and said it cant be split so he isn't going but I am still seeing red. I'm SO frigging over this army nonsense. I've always hated it. I'm not a super hooah army spouse.

  • @WombThereItIs
How much longer is his commitment? Or is this, like, his forever career until he retires?
P.S. You are totally in the right! I'd be livid. That is just really bad timing, and the fact that he was even considering it...!

  • @WombThereItIs I am so sorry for the stress- my little sister is going through a deployment with her husband too.  This was a voluntary deployment however he may or may be back of there second child.  I am reminded constantly the sacrifices our military families go through on a daily basis. How much longer is he in for? Hopefully this weekend he spoils you a bit to help mend things.
  • @WombThereItIs DH left when DD was 3 months and didn't get back until she was 15 months. It was pretty crappy. I'm glad his deployment was optional and he isn't going. I know DH is sad he missed all of DDs first.
  • @SKZW @bacorrea @MamaMiller He has under two years to go and had decided that will be it. That's part of the frustration, if he knows it's almost over why volunteer? His last one was only 5 months but he missed SO much and I can't believe he was so cavalier about doing it again.

  • I have a gift list set up in Amazon, more for myself to keep lists of books I want to get my girls. I give the list to people when they ask what the girls want or need.   Confession part? I actually use it mostly when we go to this great used book store in our town to remind me what books I have been looking for!

And also, what my original confession was before I read what everyone else had posted:  I'm huge into recycling. Like, I get mad at DH when he throws away a piece of paper instead of recycling it. Well, today while putting groceries away I noticed two containers of yogurt that had been pushed to the back of the fridge, and were quite old. I opened them to clean out, and gagged at the smell and the look. So I threw them both away instead, and took out the trash so DH won't know.
  • @slam1110 please tell me what HDBD stands for!!?

  • Mean Girls arguments aside, I honestly don't get the appeal of a FB group for organizational purposes.  I'm a member of 20+ mom FB group and I have no idea who those ladies are or how anyone would keep that organized.  Sure I see the most popular posts pop into my feed. But even if you go to the group page, it's not ordered by most recent post as it is on the bump.  Also, I'm not sure my OCD-ness could handle it if I turned notifications on for a FB group.  I need that little red notification bubble zeroed out at all times.

  • My friends insist that I'm showing already...I tried to explain to them that it's actually residual baby bump from my son and/or bloating. Things never exactly got flat after he was born haha. I think they felt awkward then, and kept insisting that it's a baby.

  • @kayemjay2 I'm in the same boat.  I have a "bump" but its really the fact that my stomach never fully flattened out and I'm super bloated.  Several people have told me I'm already showing which is awkward.
  • My husband and I have been doing Amazon wishlists for several years now. Our family knows when Birthday and Christmas roll around they can look on there for things we've been looking at. We never ever send it to them or push it on them, but after years of both sets of parents asking for gift lists its just easier. We use them as reminders of things to buy ourselves as well.

I like the concept of an amazon registry just to have a wish list so if someone asks what they want, they can get the list. I would let them know that they are not expected to buy off the list and that it's just to give them an idea of what the wants are as of lately.

My FFFC is that I removed at least 10 people from the spreadsheet. I was bored and checked each person's profile page for activity. There were a few that never posted on any of the board in spite of joining weeks ago (not even a lovetit). And there were a few that haven't logged in over a month. I hope those ladies are okay but if you're not active then you're not staying on the spreadsheet. I will do another cut later this year. Anybody who is active but isn't on, feel free to add yourself ;)
lol I never added myself because I always figured it would end up a list full of randoms tgat didn't participate

  • @pshaortao : That's a great confession. And for someone who's so detail-oriented/organized, it must have felt amazing to go through that doc and do some cleanup.   :)
  • Oh no, @MoshiMoshi7 my FFFC is that I hate ranch dressing! The smell of it makes me want to throw up and I can't eat anything that it was touched. I can eat the dry ranch packets mixed into food and love ranch flavored chips/crackers. I just can't do it...yuck! I feel pretty much the same about mayonnaise   :s
