How do you envision your birth?

Re: How do you envision your birth?

  • Do you envision birthing at a hospital, a birth center or at home? Hospital.

Are you planning to go med-free or are you thinking 'bring on the epi'? Definitely bring on the epi. I am going for a VBAC but realistic that I will probably have a RCS if I don't go into labor on my own before my due date (my births are relatively close so the hospital won't let me go over 40 weeks).

Do you look forward to your birth experience or do you feel scared? Honestly, I had a nightmare birth with DS, so I don't feel like it can get any worse than that. I also have a phenomenal OB and a great hospital, so I know I am in good hands.

Do you plan to take a class to prepare or plan to wing it? I took a class with DS, so we'll just wing it this time around.

Are you considering hiring a doula? Will you document a birth plan? The doulas in my area suck, so no. I basically threw my entire birth plan out the window last time when labor was a mess, so I'm just going to focus on getting a baby out and taking it home as soon as possible.

If you have given birth before did your experience align with what you had envisioned? What, if anything, do you hope to change this time?  I labored with DS for 17 hours until progression stalled. Was given pitocin, labor still didn't progress, and DS's heart rate started dropping with every contraction, so we wound up with an emergency c-section. He had been breech and didn't flip until 38 weeks when he didn't have a lot of room, so his head came down sideways and got wedged in my pelvis, which was why he stopped progressing. Even with the c-section they had to use forceps to pull him free. So, as long as it's not THAT again (and really, who gets that shitty luck twice?!?), I think I'll be good.

Definitely a hospital, like last time.

Are you planning to go med-free or are you thinking 'bring on the epi'? I will try to go med free (like first time) but will just have to see how things go.

Do you look forward to your birth experience or do you feel scared? Not scared at all. I'm simply no the type, I don't get nervous about things like that.

Do you plan to take a class to prepare or plan to wing it? I'm thinking about it still. It was fun taking it first time around. Not sure I'd be learning anything new, but it is fun to get a little massage from H as they talk about easing the pain during labor and different massage techniques :)

Are you considering hiring a doula? Will you document a birth plan? No doula, my H is awesome as a support and I love all the nurses and OBs I got to meet first time around. And as first time around, I will point out my wishes, but will never call it a plan for a very specific reason :) My one demand/plan is to NOT get an episiotomy. Everything else, we'll see how it goes.

If you have given birth before did your experience align with what you had envisioned? What, if anything, do you hope to change this time? My first birth didn't go as planned at all. Therefore I am not writing a birth plan this time around either. I'm hoping to be able to progress better this time on my own to avoid induction meds. I'm also hoping not having to push for over 3 hours or having my BP drop dangerously low. I also hope this time I won't be in labor for 2 days, but I also don't want to have my baby in the car LOL

@lovelongdog06 so interesting to me!  Have you ever looked at spinningbabies.com?  I guess I was curious because I never had a cervical check with my midwives with DD until late in labor.  My new midwives mentioned they like to do one late in pregnancy or early labor at least to confirm there is nothing goofy going on with positioning.  I was just surprised this wasn't something that came up with my first midwife...do you have the same midwife this time?
Yes, I'm well acquainted with spinning babies. I'm seeing a chiropractor too. I have the same midwife. I know it makes her look bad that she didn't know he was breech, but it really wasn't her fault, just one of those stupid things. I had a cervical check when my midwife arrived at my house at 7 cm, several more when he wasn't coming down as he should. He felt like a head down baby inside and out. 3 midwives total checked me in labor and none of them were certain he was breech. In fact if they had been sure, I might have been able to stay home. She feared he was a face presentation and took me to a doctor and hospital willing to try to fix his position instead of just sectioning me.
  • @lovelongdog06 definitely no judgement on your midwife, I just find it so interesting!  Sounds like your LO wanted to surprise everyone!  Are your midwives able to deliver breech at home?  I'm pretty sure mine aren't (in AZ), but I am not 100% to be sure. I hope this April baby gets going the right way for you!!

    DH: 36

    DD born 8/30/13
    #2 expected 4/25/17
  • @cafedisco you're in AZ too?! They actually couldn't, but if he had been just falling out breech, I don't think she would have made me transfer. It actually is allowed now, but there have been some bad outcomes, so I'm not sure everyone delivering breeches should actually be doing so. It was ridiculously disappointing to get so close to a perfect home birth and have it stolen from me, but when your midwife has been catching babies for 33+ years and she says we should go, you go. I'm looking forward to another chance with this one!
