March 2017 Moms

Just for Fun

Lately I've been creeping on other boards as I love a good labor story. Besides the obvious such as a healthy baby, what's your labor wish; the thing your mind hopes for when you envision your birthing experience?

Mine: I hope my water doesn't break early and that I don't need an IV. My IV was soooo uncomfortable last time and I had it in for over 48 hrs. If I could move freely without being connected to anything it would be a dream.

  • Induction here last time too--I had SIX days straight of an IV from hell-so I feel ya, @Gators&BoSox

My biggest wishes are: natural start of labor, NO back-labor this time, and that I have time to get to the hospital after waiting for my mom to arrive to watch DD.

That I don't tear.  :# I know it's not the end of the world if it happens; it's just that I have IBS and it's been a mess down there already. Having an episiotomy would simply be icing on the poop cake.

    Bahaha.  Perfect.

This was my ONLY wish last time around. I was terrified of tearing.  If it's comforting at all; when pushing time came for me, the fear didn't cross my mind at all - I suddenly didn't care a bit what happened!
  • @kjd291 I could see that in the moment of birth, a tear would not be traumatizing. It's more the moment when I'm lying in bed, serenely admiring my beautiful baby, and suddenly I think, "Oh, no, god no. I have to take a dump."
  • With a repeat c-section, I'm just hoping to make it to my scheduled surgery date (hi, not good with surprises) and to not get the shakes so bad with the epidural. And obviously, healthy kid is great.

Yeah... I definitely get it!  Sadly, going to the bathroom afterwards, even without a tear, is going to be a challenge. :(
  • @kjd291 I appreciate the head's up! I read somewhere to stay really hydrated in the final weeks of pregnancy. Supposedly you'll be thanking yourself later, specifically in regards to the first post-birth #2!

@Gators&BoSox The poop fairy has never liked me as much as the tooth fairy did. :( But we shall see...
  • Cool thread!

I am pretty certain I will have a repeat c section this time around and my one true hope is to be able to hold LO right away. Last time I had to wait until we were in the recovery room. Also hoping to get the hang of breastfeeding this time, I pumped last time exclusively for the first couple months and eventually switched to formula.

@littleSkittle14 what year did you have your gentle c section? I've heard they are fault new. I plan on talking to my ob about this on my next visit. nice to hear you had a good experience with this
  • Mine is I pray that I'm at home when I go into labor. My school is about 30 -45 minutes away from the birth center and my house is maybe 15 min. Also,  if I'm at home I don't have to freak any of my students out by my water breaking or me having a real bad contraction.
This! DH and I have already had the discussion of what would happen if my water breaks while at work. My school is 35 minutes away from our house and an hour away from our hospital. Ditto also the whole freaking-out-students part, though they are middle schoolers, so I figure I'd just be contributing to their sex education. ;) I might even reinforce birth control/abstinence!
  • @ccook1211 I was just thinking of you and wondering how you were doing! I hope those babies stay and cook. I must be a bit of a relief though to at least have a Dr. that has experienced quads a couple of times.
  • I'm hoping that what happened last time can happen again: labor starting with water breaking at home and progressing quickly. I got lucky in that my son came right on his due date and my water broke at 5:45am and I had him at 7:08pm. I was terrified of being in labor for 2 days and not progressing and thankfully that wasn't the case. I'm thinking since little guy came on his due date, this one will probably be a little early or on time again. Fingers crossed. Also hoping I can do an unmediated birth this time. I learned my lesson from last time and plan to stay hydrated this time around. Last time I was so dehydrated that I was super weak and got the epi at 7cm. After they put the catheter in and I peed, I only had a tiny bit of pee and it was marigold in color. I barely had anything to drink and my husband didn't do his job of making sure I drank something periodically. I'm also hoping everything goes ok after birth and I can have that immediate bonding time. My son aspirated on vernix and was turning blue. I held him for 10 seconds before he was whisked away to the NICU. It was awful. I finally held him after 2 days.
  • Really hoping my water breaks and naturally starts labor, no back labor, quick progression, and no tearing!

  • No induction
    Shorter labor
Healthy baby with no congenital problems like clubfoot

  • Also hoping I don't tear. I didn't with my first so fingers crossed. All in all I'm just hoping to not have a horror story birth, anything else I'll take as it comes. Preferably not having my water break in public .. that would be a plus too.
  • I'm hoping for a similar experience as last time. Water broke naturally, uncomfortable labor started about 3 hours later and she was out 3 hours after that. I was so lucky. I really don't want to hemmorage after this one tho. That was the worst part by far!
  • I hope that I don't go into labor at work- but I work at a hospital just not the hospital I am delivering at (which is about 30 minutes away) but I guess if there is some kind of emergency I am in the right place! I feel like I have pretty high pain tolerance (I've had 2 kidney stones before) so if I can try to do it without drugs I am open to it....but if I can't take it, GIVE ME THE DRUGS!!

I really don't care how it happens as long as there is a healthy mom and baby at the end.  I would like to avoid being induced if possible, that never seems to go smoothly.

  • I would like for it to be far enough away that these babies have had plenty of time to cook! Ideally - a vaginal delivery with little to no nicu time but I will do whatever I need to do to get these babes here safe and healthy! :)

  • My wish is that I will NOT be at work when my water breaks and that I won't need to be induced. Inductions seem to cause complications and end in a c-section (I know that isn't always the case). Also, I think i'm going to try delivering drug free but we'll see if I change my mind once labor starts! Maybe they'll have the epidural close by.

  • Healthy delivery - hoping water breaks at home, I am like @Spartanrd4 where I work at a hospital but not the one I will deliver at so my home is much closer than my work. I am not at all sure what to expect from this as a FTM, so I will follow my doctor's advice and hopefully I will learn more about my options and preferences when DH and I go to the childbirth class offered early December!
  • I also hope to not be at work when my water breaks.. I work very far from my home, and it's 1.5-2hrs depending on traffic. I work from home often so hoping I'll be working at home as my due date approaches anyway.

Beyond that, just hoping for a quick, relatively painless experience, and a healthy little boy with no problems. As a FTM there is so much unknown, and I have a tendency to get really panicky in hospitals, so I just hope that I can stay calm as much as possible! A few years ago, I had an accident where my arm was cut very badly, and it was gushing blood. I had to get a lot of stitches, and I legit passed out in the waiting room. Not because I lost too much blood, but because I was panicking. Not one for blood guts over here. ;)
  • We just moved a little over 2 hours away from where I will deliver, so I am hoping that it won't be a long wait between the time it is suggested I stay in the city we will deliver in, and when baby arrives. Or that my water breaks, and labor progresses slowly in the beginning, so we can make the drive without being in terrible pain. The joys of living in a remote community!
  • I just don't want a labor like last time, I had a broken elbow and it made labor horrible, her heart rate kept dropping, my epidural wore off on my side and I had back labor and I was screaming. I had to be put to sleep for an emergency C-Section and DH couldn't be in there with me. My recovery sucked as well even with help from my mom. I am just crossing all things crossable I can go into labor on my own and have a VBAC.

  • My dream labor would be a natural home birth with the outcome of a health mom and healthy baby!   :)
  • @catrb89 I agree with the bottle of wine! :D
  • Ideally I'd also like to not have a blizzard during labor time. I'm in New England so March means either 60 degree weather or 60 inches of snow lol. We aren't that far from the hospital so it's not a big deal but in a perfect world I won't need 4x4
  • That my placenta will be a good girl and step aside :)
Shorter labor than last time but everything else can be the same. It was a good experience.
