Babysitting

My husband and I have a concert to attend on Friday and there is a pre-concert event that we bought tickets for too, so we will be gone from 3pm to midnight. We don't have a sitter yet but my boss is awesome enough to watch him for us. I have no idea how to compensate her for doing this for us. I'd like to pay her (or offer her some knowing that she will likely refuse) but I don't know how much is appropriate. I also thought of making sure there was dinner ready for her but she has celiac disease and I'm terrified of accidentally cross-contaminating the food and making her ill. Any ideas/suggestions?

Re: Babysitting

  • Is there a celiac-friendly restaurant in town that you could order from? If not, maybe just have some packaged snack foods on hand that you know she will be able to eat. I agree, I wouldn't want to try to cook and risk making her ill. In terms of compensation, maybe you could get a gift card for a local restaurant or movie theatre as a way of saying thanks; it seems less formal than giving cash and then you don't have to consider it in terms of an hourly rate.

    Gift card! Great idea!
  • Love th ideas! My borough is a dead zone for restaurants so I can't order in anything that she would be able to eat but I can definitely get her a gift card from a restaurant elsewhere for her to use at some point.
  • My best friend has celiac and brings her own food when she's not sure, it wouldn't surprise me if she brings her own salad or something.

Oh I'm sure she will, I just love cooking and thought it would be a nice gesture to have something for her but I don't think I can make that happen for safety/health reasons. I definitely think I'll get her a gift card for her and her family to have a night out at some point as a thank you.
