Question for you all...anyone planning on baby wearing? If so, what kind of device are you getting? I'm really interested in getting a ring sling but my concern is that some of the ones mentioned here (like the Wild Bird ones which are super cute) might not be long enough. Thoughts?
@CurlyCupcake21 I'm getting a Tula and a Wild Bird ring sling. The ring sling already came in and I took it out and tried it on. It was definitely long enough. (For reference, I'm 5' 2", 210 lbs, and a 38DD/DDD bust). We'll see how well it works once baby is here, but so far, I think it will be okay
I bought an Infantino Sash Wrap and Tie carrier. It has really good reviews on Amazon, including a few that say this is a great option for plus size women. I ended up finding the exact one I wanted at a discount store (Ross, I think) for $15 less than Amazon. I haven't tried it on yet, but I'm hopeful.
I have a Tula, boba, infantino Mei tei, and moby wrap and plan on getting a ring sling for this time as well. I may have a slight issue. Lol. I've had an ergo but didn't feel like it fit well around my waist and was uncomfortable for me personally.
Anyone else have your OB say that because of your weight it's difficult to measure the baby accurately? Mine said that yesterday to a student doctor in the room as if I wasn't even there. She tried to get a measurement and then said to her, "sometimes when they're overweight it's too hard to get an accurate measurement." Then she turned back to me and said I will probably need more ultrasounds later on in the pregnancy to determine the baby's size. I thought it was weird, but maybe I'm just being overly defensive? My stomach is stretched to the max and my skin is very tight over it so I'm just not really sure why she claimed to have such difficulty measuring me and curious if anyone else experienced this?
I haven't gained a lot of weight overall (yet!) with this pregnancy, but I put on more weight than what she deemed acceptable since my last visit and then commented on how since my life is so stressful I must be "stress eating." The sad part is I've actually slightly improved my diet, I've upped my water intake drastically and I walk literally everywhere all the time. It's just frustrating and I always leave there feeling gross and ashamed. I'm not comfortable or I guess assertive enough to tell her that though. Anyone else have a care provider who makes you feel like that in regards to your weight?
@Jab3 my provider measured me and said I'm measuring normally. They didn't say anything about it being hard bc I'm overweight.
Honestly, your provider sounds like a real jerk. If you are drinking water, exercising and eating healthy, you are probably fine. Is it too late to switch? Or say something?
ETA: When I'm not prego anymore I am switching to a different PCP. When I told my current dr we were going to try getting pregnant she offered me diet pills and then said " Dont use the baby as an excuse to NOM NOM NOM" (and then she mimicked eating) - B*tch
@gretchypoo, good to know! I'm seriously considering switching. It's tough for me to tell lately if I'm just being overly sensitive or if there really is something off with an individual or a situation I'm dealing with. Yeah your PCP sounds very similar to my current OB. Basically, they suck lol
@Jab3 my MWs haven't said anything about my weight interfering with measurement. i'm concerned that your doc spoke to a student about you as if you weren't there...regardless of the content of that conversation. its rude and unprofessional. i'm a big believer in switching. you don't owe them anything. and you deserve providers who respect you!
@jab3 whilst my midwife didnt mention this, i noticed on my notes from my earlier scans that it was written about restricted access due to high bmi but they didnt actually say anything to me.
@Jab3 I just had my appointment this morning with my OB where she measured and didn't mention that. I think your OB sounds like a bit of a jack hole. It's one thing if she spoke to you about it but to talk like you're not in the room isn't okay. I probably wouldn't be able to speak up about it but can you see another provider at the practice that might have better bedside manner? Or does your OB practice have midwives? Mine switches back and forth with the midwife and OB if you choose midwife care and I've found the midwives are just more gentle in talking to you about things.
@cruffino, I agree and I am going to look into switching. I don't think she will suddenly magically change even if I did speak up about how I felt.
@janefelicity, that's interesting to know. I guess it's reassuring in a way that's it's obviously not a major issue either way, but also just reaffirms that she really didn't even need to mention it, much less to a student and not even directly to me.
@CurlyCupcake21, I know I really think I'm going to see if there's another provider there I can see, but hopefully stay with the same practice. I chose that one because it's within walking distance to where I'm living so I did want to stick with it just not necessarily with that specific doc. I don't know if a midwife would even be an option for me because I need a csection. I'm not even sure how that works?
@Jab3 ah, if you're having a c-section you probably need to be followed by an OB. I'm assuming since you need a C you're having a scheduled one which would mean you probably schedule it with your specific OB. I think I'd definitely try some of the other OBs in the practice if it's an option. In my experience if you tell the scheduler you want to see someone else they don't ask questions about it. You need to do what makes you comfortable.
I am about the same weight this PG as last. I was high risk last PG and will be again this. As such, I will have a lot of u/s to check for many things, including growth. a measurement outside the body (with a tape measure) isn't going to be very accurate IMO. My u/s growth measurements were very accurate last PG. the u/s tech never seemed to have a problem.
When you've been married this long, you need a ticker to remind you.
@Jab3 my midwife has told me that because of my BMI and history of GD with my daughter that I will most likely have to have some growth scans starting in the third tri just to make sure that baby is not too big or too small.
At my last midwife appointment at 21 weeks she measured me and I was measuring at 24 weeks. I asked if that was okay, or if she was concerned, and she said that they aren't generally concerned with measuring ahead until 24 weeks. Your OB sounds like a dick.

So my slip on shoes have no tread and the padding is worn down. I'm finding it super hard to tie my shoes. I need new ones. But here's my conundrum: I have fat ankles & calves, live in Mi (so winter shoes need to be warm and waterproof), and now slip on. Ideas or favs to pass along?
@hispenguin, the way your midwife went about the whole thing would have made me feel so much better. You're right, my OB is a dick, that's the second time she's really made me feel like shit. In my book it's three strikes and you're out, so I've decided if she does it again I will not only request to be switched, but I'll also tell her why regardless of the outcome.
@purplewriter, I'll be interested to see if anyone has any suggestions because I need the same type of shoe especially since I fucked my knee up.
I loved the Boba Wrap - so long and stretchy, it was amazingly comfortable. After that, it was the Boba Carrier and I love the nice and wide waist strap (also extra long and no need for an extender like with some of the other carriers). I was a size 18/20 when my DD was born (and in general), and there was still plenty of strap left to roll up. Cheers!

They both work great!!
@srscott3 I'm glad to hear you're getting both, maybe I'll go this route. Sounds like the Wild Bird would probably fit me.
@WinchesterGirl I hadn't heard of the lillebaby but now I might need to research.
