NIPT Results

Well I thought that I was going to take a break from the group until I got my NIPT results but I'm realizing I'm a little lost right now and the best place for me to turn was to yall since no one other than my husband knows that we are going through this additional testing.

I hope this isn't a repeat question here but how long did it take for everyone to get their NIPT results? They said two weeks. I never though to ask if that was a realitic quote or a worst case quote. Is it 2 weeks or 14 business days? Tomorrow will be 1 week since the blood work.

My little girl has a choroid plexus cyst in her brain which is an indicator of trisomy 18 (Edwards Syndrome) the echogenic focus in her heart is an indicator of T21 (Downs Syndrome). I know that either of these on their own are soft indicators but she had both. So I'm trying to stay positive about the outcome (Considering they are both soft indicators) while also trying to prepare myself.

NIPT is Non Invasive Prenatal Testing. It's blood work which is supposed more thorough than the 1st trimester screening (usually done with the Nuchal test). It tests for T13, T18 and T21.

My NIPT came back a little over a week later. I'm not sure of the exact day because I called them to get the results, since they were doing the whole "no news is good news" thing. Best of luck to you!!

Thinking of you @vino831 as you wait for more answers. Maybe two weeks is the longest length of time to expect to get results so hopefully you get them sooner than anticipated. I know the waiting is so hard, but it's great to hear from you.

Yes, I think mine took about 7 business days, so 9 or 10 counting the weekend. I called on a Tuesday to ask about the results and I guess they had come in on Monday and my OB had signed off on them. I guess they didn't make it a priority to call since nothing was abnormal. So I'd follow up!

I took mine on a Tuesday and they came back the Thursday the following week. So 7 business days. Hope you hear lots of good news soon

Oh @vino831 hugs and strength to you right now. Mine was InformaSeq and they told me 14 days, but I got it back in 7 days. Prayers going to you and your sweet baby girl. I hope the test comes back with good news soon.

Mine took 13 days - I also had to call them for the results. (so it may have been sooner? I was expecting them to call me & got impatient so that's why I called) Initially I was denied the test by insurance because I wasn't high risk in their eyes, but then the dr saw some things of concern in an US so he ordered the test b/c of that...so insurance should/did cover it since I was then considered high risk until the results came back. The waiting/not knowing period is the worst! I'm sending prayers & positive thoughts your way & hope all is well with your little one!!

I think it depends on which test you got. I did the Harmony test and got my results back in 6 days, which included the weekend. A friend of mine also did Harmony and it took her 7. I know that the people that did the Materni21 had to wait a while since there was something that happened in their lab and the results were backed up. Either way, I pray that you get good news. The waiting is hard!

I'm not sure which brand I had, my OBGYN didn't tell me and I didn't care enough to ask, I knew it was a NIPT test and that was enough for me. From the time they took the blood to my next appointment was two weeks and I was given the results then. Before the doctor gave me the results she asked "did anyone already call you with the results?". So they obviously got my results in sooner but didn't call me. That pissed me off but whatever. Maybe you could call the office and tell them you want them to call ASAP with the results? Just to make sure they know not to sit on the results. Or ask when they think they'll have them and start calling everyday at that point. I had an all clear NIPT, but my baby has three other "markers", so I opted for an amnio which was done last week. I know how the waiting sucks. Hope you get good results and soon!

@vino831 I hope this time flies by for you! Sending positive thoughts to you! My NIPT (Harmony) took 14 days to come back. That was unusually long though, from what they told me. I called every day and finally after the 10 business days they say it takes, my doctor started calling them directly, and they released the result to my doctor, who called me immediately.

I had the Panorama test done by Natera and my results came in 5 business days on their website.

It really surprised me reading this how many have had to call to get their results. I get the "no news is good news" thing but they've gotta know it drives a person crazy having tests done and not hearing anything back!

Thank you all so very very much for your comments thoughts, prayers and general support. I really cant thank you all enough. I would have never thought to call. So I did yeserday. It had been a full week. Like you @honeybee517 I did find out that I had the Panorama test. The nurse was quite snotty. Snapping at me saying "I'm sure you were told that we will call you either way". Like you said @liepertsm they have to know the kind of impact these results have on people! Regardless the results were not in yet. Considering the nurses reaction I will plan to call every other day

@Bok Bagok thats incredibly frustrating. What was your procedure like? My husband is at the point that he wants to do the Amino Regardless? Perhaps you can PM me if you prefer?

@jazzyma14 I saw your update on your appt. BLAH! What an emotional roller coaster You would think that they would know thats all you've been able to think about since your last appointment! I hate to say it though perhaps thats why its best the techs dont say much. (OFC I was frustrated when mine wouldnt say anything lol. Lose Lose for them I'd imagine)

@vino831 oh no for the snotty nurse! Being a nurse myself, I dislike others who have horrible bedside manner. Since you took the same test I took, you can actually bypass her and get your results online. Go to www.mynatera.com and sign up for an account. All you'll need is your Case ID and your name to get your results. I actually didn't speak to a nurse for my results and my OB didn't get my results until way after I found out online.

@vino831 sure I'll PM you. In case anyone else wants to know, the amino wasn't so bad. The needle going in was a pinch, then a sharp cramp when it went through the uterus. Certainly, uncomfortable but it's just for a moment. For a couple days afterward if I walked around too much I would start to get a tightness feeling. I'm 6 days out from it and I feel 100% back to normal.

Oh you guys I finally got the phone call today, NIPT came back clear. Such a relief I burst into tears. The poor nurse who I was talking to was quite confused.

I'm beside myself thankful for each of your thoughts, prayers, comments and support!

I'm looking forward to finally being able to focus on how to do a sweet but easy gender reveal for my husbands family this weekend. I already called my dad and told him the good news about his granddaughter!
