The only thing I cut out for pregnancy is alcohol and medicines. I really, really miss my wine and fun seasonal alcoholic drinks. And ibuprofen would be nice now and then. I eat all the runny eggs, raw dough, sushi, cold cuts, definitely drink soda when it strikes me and take hot baths. My midwife group is so chill. They don't care about any of that and my midwife recommends caffiene to help with the occasional pregnancy headache.

All the bourbon, fall ales and red wine. I won't have more than a few sips. It is the biggest thing my husband and I are sticklers about during the tiny human growing times.
We are not big drinkers anyways. Maybe we have 2-3 in an entire week but, I DO NOT WANT to be completely sober for the Holidays. My family sucks at gatherings. This being an election year, is going to make it worse. No! Let me have my Sam Adams seasonal and a slice of pie while I sit in the corner watching the relatives go nuts. It is ALL I WANT! I wish they could invent and alcohol filter patch to wear when more than two families will be at a gathering. Shark Tank Priority #1.
@jennielynn+ HAHA! Your family sounds a lot like mine! There are always debates between family members going on at holidays, and now that its an election year, its definitely going to be worse.
Hot baths/showers, especially since that's what I use to help kill off my headaches. Wine and beer, and the ability to drink more than one cup of coffee in a day.
ok, forgive me if this is a stupid question but why are people giving up hot showers? I get the not laying in a hot bath thing but why not a hot shower? I have taken them and they are probably 20-30 min max but have never had any issues with my first pregnancy nor this one so far...
@mylittleirvz I was wondering the same thing. Both my doctor and my midwife said hot showers were fine since you're not fully immersed and can move out of the water easily to cool down if needed.
Hot showers are the best! Especially when my husband keeps my 2 yr old away! I do keep the hot water off my belly so it doesn't get too hot. But yea, that's what keeps me sane
I read that hot baths are fine too, because, unlike a hot tub, the water cools down as soon as it's out of the faucet. Also since your shoulders are usually out of the water it helps your body keep below the dangerous temps.

Totally agree. Also, it's dangerous if your temp rises above a certain point (102), but you would feel feverish long before that point. Plus, I seriously doubt your hot water heater is set high enough to run a full bath at temps that high. If anyone is worried, you could just turn down the hot water heater, which isn't a bad safety measure before you have a LO and eventually a toddler running amuck.

The only thing I would worry about with hot water is getting light headed. But after 4 and onto 5 pregnancies I have taken a hot bath just about every night and no worries! If you love them but are worried just ask your provider
I had read that baths below 100 degrees are fine, so I brought my kitchen thermometer to the bathtub with me and made sure my water temp didn't go above that.... kinda weird, but it worked!
@twistsandturnsto2 you took the words right out of my mouth: it's all about what you're comfortable with!!
With my first baby I cut all caffeine cold turkey, wouldn't go near Blue cheese, and mostly avoided lunch meat. I did still have my steak med-rare b/c I live in Texas (hello land of the cows) and I feel like life is too short to eat {overly cooked} brown meat lol. But seriously, my main mantra is that almost everything is okay if it's from a good restaurant (or is just fresh). So I'm still having a little bit of sushi here and there (I prefer the coolked stuff anyway so it works out usually), definitely still eating steak, deli meat if it sounds good, and am having at least one cup of delightfully caffeinated coffee or tea per day. I'm also still having a slightly runny egg every morning (my FAV breakfast) and felt a little rebellious about it for a while, but eh, it's delicious & nutritious so I'm rolling with it.
I actually totally caved into a craving and got a hunk of blue cheese at WF the other day. I'm at the point now (after feeling so sick for the past 6 wks) that I'll eat whatever sounds good. Pretty sure blue cheese is no-no, yea?
Ibuprofen - yes! Miss this for sure.
Also I do miss being able to drink wine. I've had small sips here and there when my husband has a glass (we are BIG wine people), but it's actually started not tasting very good sadly. I miss mimosas at brunch and wine with my brie (haha yea, I still eat plenty of Brie). @cafedisco I like your husband's plan - sounds like a fab idea to me!
Blue cheese is OK if its made with pasteurized milk, and actually a lot of blue cheese in America is! When I was craving a Cobb salad I looked at the ingredients list on the blue cheese crumbles, and it totally said pasteurized!
@Knottie00910978 woohoo! I knew about the pasteurized thing (I think most cheese in the US is pasteurized), but though it had something to do with mold in blue cheese. Who knows! In any case I'm about halfway through the chunk I bought the other day lol!!
Yes, I miss beer, too! The only NA beer that I can tolerate that will do every once in a while to help with the cravings is O'Doul's Amber. But it has to be amber. Anything else is just skunky crap! This one, if it's super cold with a nice meal actually works ok
Wine. There are 60+ bottles in my house just WAITING for this baby to be physically on the outside of my body and no longer attached to my blood supply...
