Re: ***TTCAL Weekly check in October 10th****

  • @szwill86 Thanks - Happy almost birthday to you too!  I asked about tracking hcg down and they just said to wait till I bleed and if I haven't in 12(?!) weeks to call them.  Also started with regular OB since primary care physician thought I should be okay (and they'd refer me if necessary).  I don't think my RE (who extracted and froze a few eggs) takes insurance :-/ Somewhat fortunately DH doesn't really celebrate birthdays so his isn't as "ruined" by it having been the baby's EDD - seemed almost a little too storybook with his mom and me having the same b-day and the baby and he potentially (okay yes like 5% chance) having had the same b-day too.

@NewMommyCoop Ugh, it's super frustrating when there is a way to tell what's going on, but they won't do it for you. (But also I acknowledge that I am a little neurotic.) I understand my office's point about cycling indicating things are working, but I'd definitely have felt a lot worse had I not had the ultrasound to confirm that everything was gone, 'cause again...39!

@dpjennifer Thanks, the b-day ended up being a better day than I anticipated - Thanks in part to taking the day off from work and continued consolation eating :p

    Thanks for the reference @RiverSong15

Wishing everyone here good luck - 'cause this experience has given me a better sense of just how much this actually involves...

  • @artmemis618 - that sounds a little strange that your OB would not want to track your HCG levels.  I had 2 natural mcs and my drs office tracked my levels both times. It was my understanding that they wanted to check for retained tissue. On top of that not having you call for 12 weeks is a little hands off. Are you already txing with an RE - and did you ask them for advice re HCG levels? Im so sorry for your loss and that you are dealing with all of this!
  • @RiverSong15 I think I’m going to test tomorrow morning, although if the 10 DPO low temperature dip from Sunday is actually implantation, it may be too early to tell.  The wine tasting sounds amazing!!!!

@TScalei I totally understand the incessant baby chatter in front of you!  They don’t seem to get it at all.

  • @TScalei Thanks for your response - when I called my RE back in January after DH and I got engaged (we - er, I - didn't want to start trying till after the wedding in June), RE just said to call him if we weren't pregnant by year-end (because that would be 6 months of trying).  I think the doc (my OB - whom I'd only seen once for first appointment was out of the office last week) wasn't concerned about retained tissue because based on exam and the ultrasound when I was able to get in 3 days after I was down to bloody mucous (Sorry if tmi!) and completely empty.

TW (loss) - As crushing and sad and disappointing as it is, it wasn't totally shocking given that I was 38 and DH is 41 (though even the doc we saw for post-mc ultrasound commented that it was "strange" given the normal NIPT results - who knows?).  We always knew it was a possibility, but were optimistic.  I did not see it coming at all though - didn't really even spot much before (a tiny little pink 2 days before and a tiny little brown a day before) - she was measuring on track and heartbeat was ~160 at 8w2d, so the actual loss was a little bit shocking that way and because I'd never been pregnant/miscarried before.  I will say that the mini-contractions made me think twice about this whole thing for a couple minutes though!

  • @artemis618 I'm so sorry for your loss. Do you remember what brand NIPT test you took? When I was dealing with my Panorama test "no results" I learned that some companies have some pretty bad track records of false "everything is ok" results, particularly when they tell you that you are carrying a female. I can find the study if you want it, but basically these researchers sent the blood of a non-pregnant 45 year women to multiple NIPT companies, and instead of sending the tests back for "low-fetal fraction" they tested only the DNA of the mother and sent back the result of "normal female". Also, not all tests test for all chromosomal abnormalities. Most only test for T-13, T-18,and T-21. Panorama also tests for triploidy, which my baby had. Ultimately I got 2 low-fetal fraction results - which put me at a much higher risk of chromosomal abnormality and then had a CVS that resulted in the diagnosis.
  • Thank you for the kind words, everyone. Having this place makes the loss just a tad easier to handle.

@szwill86 Happy early birthday. I have the same milestone birthday approaching next month and I'm having those same mixed feelings. I was watching a silly Christmas movie yesterday and just burst into tears knowing I won't have a baby for Christmas, much less my November birthday. It just sucks. Hugs to you.

@artemis618 So sorry for your loss. Your hcg dropped pretty quickly, I'd say! It took me probably 6 weeks to be negative (though was tracked by betas).

  • @chloe97 Wow, thanks for the info.  That's sort of awful about the tests.  My office offered MaterniT21 - I understand that they don't check for everything (and a lot can go wrong) and don't really speak to viability, I just found it...sort of, well, deceptively comforting when we heard "normal.". So sorry about your experience as well.

@laeberge3 Thanks - I wish I could tell for sure, but I suppose time (on which I'm feeling kind of short!) will tell...

  • Here is the study I mentioned https://www.genomeweb.com/molecular-diagnostics/update-undercover-assessment-five-commercial-nipt-labs-points-need-better

It looks like sequonom- the lab that administers the Maternit21 test is the worst offender for the misleading negative results @artemis618.I'm not sure if it's helpful for you to know this now since it changes nothing, but I thought I would share.

Guys, I have to apologize for not being more responsive to people this week. I'm a mess right now. Saw the headache Dr yesterday and had an MRI to rule out MS and anything else even worse today. Anxiety=crazy. I also started on prednisone to try break up the 18 day migraine. I'm trying not to google what that can mean for TTC since DH and I did the deed and (likely) ovulated before I saw the Dr. I also had an MRI with contrast.  The tech made me swear I'm not pregnant bc that is bad during the first Tri. Well I'm not technically pregnant, but I could be in 8 days. I laid in that MRI machine worrying about what I was doing to a potential 2 day old blastocyst by being there. Ugh the timing was just terrible with all of this. I know if I do get KU-d my PGAL brain is going to be out of control over this. I had such high hopes for this cycle and now I'm a mess.

Anyway,  I did want to say a few things. First,@Riversong15- I want your weekend. Wine country in WA and OR is something I've wanted to do for awhile. Is the weather decent out there in the winter? Also, remember that an OPK+ can be a fake out and if you didn't temp, you can't confirm, so I wouldn't worry too much about your LP right now. Could be a total fluke!  So excited you are getting off the bench soon.

@roxgibbons Yay for a great saline sonogram! I swear that the only months I've had EWCM were the months that I had my HSG and saline sonogram. Hopefully this will mean optimal conditions for you as well!

@szwill86 Happy birthday and I'm so sorry about your upcoming edd

@rainbowturtles your thanksgiving feast sounds amazing!

@SoonToBeMommaHowe I hope you conform O soon and we can be cycle buddies again!
  • @chloe97 Thanks for sharing the info on the NIPT. Although I'm disappointed to read it, I guess it's better than throwing 100% of my faith into a test like that. Also, I'm sorry to hear you're struggling with the headaches and don't have a diagnosis yet. That can be really scary. MRIs don't use radiation at least, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. I think it's just one of those things where they don't test effects on pregnant women so can't say for sure if it's safe, even though it probably is.

@roxgibbons Good news on the sono!

@artemis618 I recognize your name from TTGP, sorry to see you over here  :'(

TTC #1 after five losses. Working with RPL specialist.
2.) Status (WTO, TWW, Benched, etc)
5 dpIUI - this is our third and last IUI. Trying to be optimistic and realistic at same time. (Y'all know the drill.) Had the best sperm count and 3 follies, plus we drove away from and back into a hurricane to get it done, so..... I better be KU. ;) But I have had far too many "great stories if it would have happened" not happen. I know the odds are not in my favor.
    3.) Rants/ Raves
Don't have a ton of time, but just wanted to report that I survived Hurricane Matthew! We have a couple of trees down and some water damage inside from wind-blown rain, but we came out ok! Unfortunately, we are still without power, but I am back at work today and trying to get back into real life.

The hurricane and its aftermath have proven a great distraction. Too much else to do!

Want to catch up with each of you, but I have to tend to much work. Please forgive me if I don't get to you! xo

4.) GTKY: Tell me about your favorite Halloween costume from childhood or later...
Husband and I were Dog and Beth from Dog the Bounty Hunter tv show. I have never been a big Halloween/costume person, but our get ups for those characters were fabulous. Best part was H cut his long hair into a real mullet for the evening!

@chloe97. Thanks. OPKs have always lined up with temps for me in the past, but you're right. It's just one cycle. And 11 days is still not too short. As far as your MRI with contrast, remember that any potential baby won't share a bloodstream with you for a while, so the contrast will likely be out of your system before then. The risk is probably minimal, and the tech was just being cautious. Did you get the results of your MRI yet? Here's hoping for good results!
  • @RiverSong15 don't tell.me you've never attempted a River costume! Or maybe a giant sonic screw driver lol
  • @MimoCa Dr. Who has been a recent obsession of mine, so I actually never have done a Whovian themed costume. This year we're planning on doing a theme with our dog. But that's a great idea for next year! We could dress our dog as K9, H could be the Doctor, and I could go as River...
  • @RiverSong15 that would be awesome!! I love seeing all the whovian costumes, wish u had the will or effort for Halloween but I'm so lazy lol!
  • 1.) Suzie here, newbie.  Epiotic on 9/22 HCG @ 1300's last wednesday.  Hopfeully in the triple digits as of yesterday.  My dr is on a need to know basis with me and apparently he thinks I don't need to know anything so I have to harass them for any information about my levels.
