What is one thing....

that in a perfect world you wish you didn't have to give up while pregnant?

mine is - I love super hot showers, baths, and hot tubs in the winter.  Since being pregnant during winter this year, I will have to give that up.

Just a little fun GTKY on Friday morning :)

  • Diet soda! When not pregnant I drink way too much, but I love the taste! I've been craving Coke Zero like no tomorrow
  • I agree with @SnarkasaurusRex - definitely beer. I'm gonna be sad when Christmas Ale season comes around because I love those (and they're typically high alcohol so no more than a sip for me!). Might have to have DH save me some in the back of the fridge!

  • @Ekzerr I still drink the occasional diet soda...my OB was cool with it. With my first pregnancy I didn't even know that it was a no-no until halfway through. Oops.

  • @SnarkasaurusRex really?! I'll ask at my next appt! It's been one of my strongest cravings so far :p
  • I agree with beer. But not for the craft ales. I just want to be able to enjoy a beer with DH and relax on the weekends. He always goes out to the garage on Fri and Sat and drinks with the neighbor and I kind of miss being out there and just relaxing and spending time with them.

  • @Ekzerr Basically, my OB said that there were a couple of studies that linked pre-term birth and overweight babies at age 1 in women who reportedly drank at least one 1 diet soda a day during their pregnancy. There's not enough evidence to suggest that those things were caused by the diet soda, but some OBs are being cautious about it just in case. She was more worried that drinking soda (diet or regular) would decrease the amount of water and nutritious calories I was eating, so her rule to me was if I drank a soda to make sure that I drink an extra glass of water that day.

FWIW, DS was born on time (no pre-term delivery here) and was a string bean at 1 year (almost underweight, really), so I did not encounter any issues (not that that's a good reason to ignore the medical advice from your doctor; that was just my experience :)).

  • Hot baths, red wine, and Granville island winter ale! I also miss when coffee didn't make me sick. I can't even drink decaf  :/
  • Sushi and wine for sure!
  • @Koukonei I agree with coffee! I both miss it and dont understand how I ever drank it lol I had the same with DD and just woke up one morning ready to drink it again! It was around 12 weeks which I am today so hoping it passes soon :p
  • Sushi, beer, and in the third trimester being able to go hiking. It just gets too uncomfortable.

  • Sushi.

    DD1 born 5/24/10.

    Missed M/C at 14 wks Feb 2012.

    DD2 born 5/14/13.

    Missed M/C at 9 wks July 2015.

    Expecting someone new 4/17/17.
  • The concern for me with diet soda would be aspartame.

    DD1 born 5/24/10.

    Missed M/C at 14 wks Feb 2012.

    DD2 born 5/14/13.

    Missed M/C at 9 wks July 2015.

    Expecting someone new 4/17/17.
  • Wine. Always wine. This pregnancy is making it difficult to study for my next Somm exam- I'm going to have to try to cram all my tasting practice in after baby comes, and before my exam in august, all while trying to nurse too. Not ideal, but at least I've had a baby before and have a pretty good idea on how to fit it all in.

@ekzerr have you tried diet caffeine free coke.  I won't deny sometimes I will get a can or small bottle of diet pop.  I just make sure I don't drink more than 200 mg a day if I have caffeine now that I am in my 2nd trimester. I didn't touch the stuff during the 1st trimester.
My 1 thing isn't so much a give up as it is I no longer like the texture and that is gummy candy. I can't stand prenatals.

  • @beggsyboo I haven't but thanks for the tip!!
  • I agree with the beer.  DH has bought so many different pumpkin beers and fall beers and I am jealous!  This will continue with winter beers.  He says he is putting a couple of each off to the side for me, so we will see.  For now I just have a sip when he pours himself one.
  • High intensity activities. I will miss snowboarding this winter. But I will try snowshoeing. Before getting pregnant I was also doing 10-18 mile hikes in the mountains. I still hike but not as much as before.
  • Bourbon and med rare steak. I would totally eat the steak if H wasn't so dead set against it. His argument is I have the right to chance my health but our baby doesn't get a choice and it isn't right to impose my will upon her. He's pro lifeing my food intake.
    @Virginialeigh LOL'd at this

Mine is wine, and mimosa's.... what is brunch without mimosa's

Oh and crossfit, I can't keep my heart rate down so my doc put the breaks on that....

  • I second the high intensity activities.  We went camping this past weekend and I couldn't jump into the lake from the rope swing or go jet skiing. :(
  • I agree with @pinkshades05 about meds. So many headaches. Flu season coming.

Mostly coffee though. I really miss coffee. Decaf is unavailable at work. And the kettle broke so I can't even make tea.
  • This year I will miss joining hubby and his band on their annual Disney trip. I'll be 36 weeks and way too close (and big) to travel :(. I also miss eating cookie dough and licking cake batter out of a bowl. I don't drink alcohol or coffee (just hate the tastes) and very seldom take otc cold or pain meds, so really I don't think I'm missing much. Hot tub would be one, but I don't have one :(
  • I second the missing of ibuprofen.
    Babysizer Cravings Pregnancy Tracker
  • I was thinking earlier when I posted "Eh, there's really not much I miss, not a drinker, sushi eater, big adventure person..." BUT yes to the ibuprofen! It's the only medicine I can take for aches and pains without getting sick. Also runny eggs but I had one once so far...felt kinda guilty after but it was so tasty!
    BabyFruit Ticker
  • @lovelongdog06 I agree on the dough/batter! I was making cookies the other day and went to go grab some out of habit, and then remembered I am not supposed to be eating raw eggs. It was a true test of my willpower lol. Although in reality I think it's probably fine - I have been eating raw cookie dough since I was a kid and never once gotten sick - I figured it wasn't worth the risk.

I thought I would miss wine/beer more but actually it doesn't really appeal to me right now! Same with coffee. It just tastes so wrong to me! Even coffee ice cream which was my favorite before. And I can no longer tolerate spicy food. It seems that my taste buds have completely changed since getting pregnant! Hopefully they go back to normal eventually.

One thing I really wish wasn't off limits would be hot tubs! There's a resort in the mountains we've been to a few times which I would love to go to for our babymoon, but the main attraction is the hot springs - which I wouldn't be able to enjoy.  So I am on the hunt for other options.
    BabyFruit Ticker
  • @Ekzerr YES!! I miss Coke Zero so much! Occasionally I'll drink a regular soda if I just need something fizzy, but they're just SO sweet. I usually end up drinking a few sips and I'm done.

Sushi and ibuprofen are up there too!
  • @herewegrow I'm horrible too ;) sushi, all the lunch meat, coffee...... it's all about what you and you are comfortable with.

  • @Ekzerr They have caffeine free Coke Zero. Tastes practically the same. I switched to it when I cut out caffeine. Only drink it when I'm really having a craving.

I'm really craving a nice deli sandwich, but don't want it hot, yuck. Im tempted to just go for it.
  • @herewegrow What allergy medication did you have to stop taking? I take zyrtec and it's not an option to stop for me. I have terrible allergies!

  • Flonase for allergies and, now that I'm starting to feel better, sushi and wine (although I had ABSOLUTELY no interest in wine 3 weeks ago). The smell of coffee still makes me sick.

  • I eat all the sushi (I don't eat raw anyway), cold cuts, still take all my hot baths, and my 2nd pregnancy I was addicted to Coke!  All 4 of my first babies were fine :).

What at I really miss is the occasional alcoholic drink and drugs!!  In the last 7 years I have pretty much been pregnant or nursing and I really miss being able to drug myself when sick, go lie down and sleep all day.....
