Facebook Group - Thoughts?

Not sure if this is against the rules...but has anyone joined/created a Facebook group yet? I am trying to find a group that allows me to keep it a secret and not announce to the world I am joining a birth month club. So the title is something other than "June 2017 Babies" ;-). If no one else has one, I can create one - but would really like to just join one. Thoughts?

My A15 bmb created a FB group when the exodus went down. We were about 7ish months pregnant and by that point we all knew each other very well.

Facebook groups are nice but I feel its fairly to soon for that. I could see it happening when the trolls and lurkers diminish some and we get to know each other better.

Just my two cents for whatever its worth

I agree with @itsfine I joined an A15 fb group and those women have become my best friends. That being said, it happened much down the road...

Too soon...

I joined my M14's FB group and it's still going strong, they're some of my favorite people and we've helped each other through so much, but I don't think we started it until at least 2nd tri.

As for the FB group...agreed, too early right now.

@Mashunya425, I think they're referring to the mass exodus over to Then Comes Family or Proboards.

I could be wrong though.

I've been a part of one that straight up blew up. I now have over a dozen ladies blocked on Facebook and spent sometime worrying about how crazy they actually are and how much of my personal information of mine they remembered.

Some of those ladies are now my RL best friends, but I'll never risk the cray again.

Too soon to weed out the cray. I'm in the group @Assiram42 mentioned and LOVE it but even waiting that long we still had a few near misses on group blowing to pieces.

Some of us are still joining and we need time to weed out the crazy that inevitably comes out. And, sadly, some of us won't be here as long as the rest of us. I have such great friends IRL now that I initially met on TB but we made our group AFTER our babies were born. I'm okay joining sooner, like around 7/8 months but I'll hang out here until then

We had three boards implode before leveling off where we are now. So not going through that again.

It's a babycenter group. I know this because I checked out their boards when I was comparing a few tracker apps. They are all about Facebook, posting their emails/names/identifying info publicly for all to see. Definitely a "different" vibe than here.

@Assiram42 @mirdamae03 whats with chicks stealing $$$ from mom groups!??! We had a super shady character in my May 2012 group that stole tons of money... it became far more severe than that after another mom went and found that the baby was being abused also. Such CRAZINESS. I can barley wrap my head around it.

I mean I'm sure most of you are cool, but i'll only be ok with a FB book waaaaaay further into our pregnancies, and one where private messages are the only means of communication about who is invited into it. I don't trust internet randos enough to join a FB group that has been publically advertised on these boards for all to see. My FB profile is private because I want to make sure I trust the people who have access to my information.

Oh that's awful! Bitches like to take advantage of pregnant women and play on their emotions. In my tenure on TB, I've seen some pretty disgusting things.

Im mostly here for the eventual FB. IM a mod on my Jan13, and active in June15. Both happened in the 1st tri or so, and were closed probably by around the 6m point.

That said, I do think it is too soon since not all the people due in June have gotten a BFP yet!

Definitely all for the FB switch to happen when the time comes. My first BMB (Sept '11) didn't create a group until our babes were 6 months old..I think groups like that were just coming around then. Happy to still talk with those ladies daily, and celebrate our September Sweet Peas.

So this is my first time ever being on the bump and joining a group. I wasn't on here while we were TTC, how can people possibly steal money? Maybe I'm naïve but our personal info isn't available through here I hope. The FB group sounds awesome when the time is right!

@Wearmi1 it's been a while but what I think I remember was *TW* we had a mom have a stillborn in our group and we had a group donation via our admin at the time of the board. The admin then "donated" to march of dimes or a similar nonprofit in memory of the babe. She started acting shady and once confronted provided a lot of photoshopped documents "proving" she made the donation. Some detective work proved she didn't. We all theorized she used the money to buy a pricey glider she had her eye on, hence the name.

People on here have made GFM or taken donations up for people who claimed their children had life-threatening conditions all to find out they had Munchausen or made up an elaborate story to garner sympathy.

@mirdamae03, is correct about glider gate. We took up a sunshine mission for a loss mom in hopes of sending her a gift in memorial and donating in her child's honor and she took our money. It was eventually donated, but only after people contacted her husband's law office.

I was part of the July14 board where all kinds of cray happened. One of the fan favorites made up her whole pregnancy and someone found out she was stealing another woman's pregnancy photos for her weekly bump update!

JK - I'm in the lets wait a while camp, but having a FB group down the road is much easier than TB for keeping up. My last BMB formed a group as ladies started having their babies (easier to keep up on FB!)

Wow, that's pretty crazy about stealing money, but honesty, why would you give money to a cause or person you aren't familiar with in the first place? I'm not trying to be judgy, but I would never give money to someone I wasn't very close with. I don't give to GFMs or anything like that.

I enjoy forums, but I would not join a Facebook group. I like forums for the anonymity, and I don't become friends on Facebook with people I don't know in real life.

Yup, I'm ready for FB anytime ya'll are. I'm a mod with @pghctwife on our J13 mom group (shout out @heath313)and active in my F15 group too. I was against the group at first with my J13er and didn't join until after the babes were born. But, despite my initial concerns, it's been awesome and the privacy is easy to control. It's SO much easier to keep track of things on FB.

So interesting. The group (July 2013) I was in was great. My daughter was born in June, so I keep thinking it was June 2013. We were the July Sparklers : ). It moved from The Bump to Facebook maybe in the early second trimester. I eventually left the group after about 18 to 24-ish months because it became a huge time suck for me and people started getting super rule enforcement-y, but I did meet some really cool girls and still keep up with them on Facebook. It was pretty awesome once the baby started being born! No one stole anything that I am aware of and there were a lot of fun exchanges and some donations. I am glad to have had the group for support. I am still trying to decide if I want to go down the "rabbit hole" of a whole new group. People did meet IRL and a bunch of them are close friends. So if you are willing to invest the time and put yourself out there a bit, it can be a good source of friendship and information.

@AshleyG1022 i appear to be in the minority, but i am IN!!! I had a TTC group with just a small group of women and now i LOVE them, but only half of us are pregnant so I don't feel comfortable sharing too much there anymore.

My A15 board created one once a bunch of people had their babies. It was alright. I ended up leaving the group because I honestly just couldn't deal with it. Some of those ladies have become close friends and stayed on my friends list, though.

But yeah, way too soon for a FB group.
