Have my 30 week followup this morning. I'm a little curious about what they tell me about my fasting numbers, I've had three elevated ones in the past two weeks. I also want to ask about the swelling in my feet and hands that I'm already experiencing (not bad, but definitely noticeable.) I think this one may be another quick in-and-out, but I know within the next few weeks I have to get my Tdap and get tested for group B strep. Hopefully my growth ultrasound is coming up soon too because I really want to see how big she's getting!
I have my 32 week appt Wednesday. I have a few questions to ask my doc about my bp being high, headaches, and some twitching/muscle spasms while having a braxton hicks.
I am not experiencing anything crazy...may ask if the doc can tell if she's head down because I haven't had any terrible vag pain this time around (not that I am complaining!) and am just curious what position she's currently in that is keeping that at bay. Other than that, should be quick in and out! DH has to come to this one with me or stay home with DS because I'm off work and DS's daycare is closed and he cannot handle me being examined on the table, so another adult is required!
My OBGYN's office suffered water damage, so I have to wait until Thursday to be seen for BP med reevaluation. I'm ok with it though and trying not to worry about it since we are looking at new places to live today and that's enough stress.
@DiFazette 140/90 range. DH is on my ass though and making sure I don't do anything even remotely strenuous, especially when packing. He told the property manager at the apartments we are looking at today that I will not be going up stairs to look at places so she better find some places that are easily accessible.
I'm feeling okay but we are definitely keeping an eye on it. Fortunately a lot of people are offering support so I don't have to deal with the hard aspects of moving, and that really helps.
I have my 32 week appointment on Tuesday. Was supposed to be a boring appointment and should be scheduling my c section.
Also have some follow up questions since being released from the hospital...like the antibiotics he prescribed for the rest of pregnancy the pharmacist said are not safe after 38 weeks or the final two weeks (so 37 for me). My Dr said I'd be on them until after delivery so I just wanna make sure it's ok.
@sourlemon I was in the hospital for a kidney infection also and prescribed meds until delivery as well...is it the kidney infection meds that aren't safe after 38 weeks? If so and you don't mind me asking what are you taking? Just want to double check with my doc as well at my appt today if its the same as mine!
I have a 33 week check up on Thursday - don't think there's anything in particular I'm supposed to do this time since I had an ultrasound last week and got my TDAP/flu shots the week before that. I do need to schedule my hospital tour though - I keep forgetting to do that!
At my 32 week appt last week my OB ordered "light bed rest". I go in for a follow up today. Hopefully everything has settled down, or it's bed rest til 34 weeks.
@DiFazette@sourlemon Had to share: I'm packing and I came across some medical records from last year and a few years before--BP was consistently 124/77 or lower!
Am I crazy for hoping I'll get back down to that after Ashton is born considering I never had BP issues before? >.<'
I'm at the hospital lab right now for my three hour glucose test. I'm about 10-15 minutes from my last blood draw and someone just brought their lunch in here. I've been pretty okay until I smelled it and now I think my stomach is trying to eat itself. Soooo hungry and sooo not okay that they brought food in to where people have to fast!!

I have a growth scan and my "32" week appointment tomorrow. Thanks to fall break we get off track for awhile and see our doc at 31,33,35 weeks. I'm hoping we talk about our RCS tomorrow as well.
@SmashJam I was prescribed macrobid until after delivery to hopefully prevent another infection. I have had kidney problems all my life but my first pregnancy wasn't impacted at all. So this is new even though my doc has talked about this as a possibility from day 1. I Googled it and it does seem contraindicated after 38 weeks due to some blood issue I don't understand.
@dmontgo before my first pregnancy my usual bp was about 95-110/50-60. After pregnancy I never got below 135/80...until the past few weeks. I've been around my original bp consistently for a month now. It will be interesting to see how the end of this pregnancy goes and after. I'd say it's possible...my doctors always said eventually I should but were also shocked that it remained elevated for so long. Don't give up hope! But don't be shocked if it takes a while. Mine initially went down about 10 points each when I started running again but it was still high.
I have an appointment today. I'm not expecting anything too crazy, just routine then come back in three weeks. I might ask him about the random times I become light headed...

@dmontgo so many factors play into that... Whether or not your hypertension turns into pre-e/eclampsia/HELLP or not as well as how your hormones regulate after birth. Hormones/thyroid play a big part in BP and coming off a pregnancy it's likely to be a bit wonky. Also, just know that from what my docs shared, your starting (pre pregnancy pressures) are a bit elevated for your age and BMI, so it may be indicative of an underlying mild problem that was exacerbated by pregnancy, as many things are. Anything over 120/80 is considered pre-hypertensive and those thresholds are even lower if you're under 30 and a woman. What's your family history on BP? I know I'm destined to have straight hypertension at some point... but I did get off meds about 2 years after DS' birth and I'm still not on them. They fully expected me to be a hot mess with BP with the history AND carrying twins and I'm okay so far!
In short, too many moving pieces to predict, but it is possible. It may be something that needs a watchful eye forever....
Had my follow up US this morning to check on my marginal previa. It has migrated and, although still a little low, the dr said it's on the right track so no concerns and no more pelvic rest. During the US the tech surprised me with some 3D images and I may or may not have cried like a hormonal baby. BUT COME ON. That smooshy face!!
I went to the doctor on Friday and they found 2+ protein in my urine. So I had lab work done and then I had to do a 24 hour urine sample yesterday. With my last pregnancy, I developed HELLP syndrome due to preeclampsia pretty quickly and had to deliver early. So now I'm seeing the doctor weekly. I go back on Thursday for another cervical length check, my Makena injection, and a follow up with my OB.
I have an appointment on Thursday for a regular appointment plus an appointment to go over birth wishes (this is a program my OB/hospital does and encourages) that will include a hospital tour.
I was chatting with some of y'all about my issues with thyroid/thyroid meds and my nightmare phone call trying to get help from a nurse/my doctor. I wanted to follow up and say I figured out how to take the medicine where it doesn't seem to impact me. I believe it was not jiving well being taken at the same time as the anxiety medication and baby aspirin. I was trying to take it all in the morning when I got up before eating because it says to do an empty stomach for the thyroid. Anyway, I have started going ahead and taking the anxiety med/aspirin around 6:30am when I eat breakfast, then waiting until 9-10am to take the thyroid med and not snacking or anything for at least an hour or two to give it a window to process all by itself. So far I've been able to do that without having any sort of issues like I was when I was trying to take them together.
Still going to talk to my doctor about the poor communication with the nurse I experienced. That's just not acceptable care. If you're going to call me in a medication without discussing the medication/my levels/side effects/etc etc. with me, it's not okay for you to be so unhelpful when I call as to only talk with me through a nurse who kept blaming my concerns/issues on pregnancy hormones. That's not cool.
@SmashJam and @sourlemon - pharmacist weighing in here! If it is Macrobid that you're taking, it's not so much an issue for you as it is for the LO - it can cause breakdown of the red blood cells in newborns, so that's why it's best to avoid that particular drug if you're getting pretty close to your delivery date.
@DiFazette My dad had high BP, but after he had a bad reaction to the medicine, he cut out processed sugar and hasn't had an issue since...strange but true. I'm really hoping that once Ashton is born and I can get back into exercising that it will go back down. I looked at my readings from the first appointment since getting pregnant and there was a pretty immediate significant increase in diastolic from my normal, although systolic took longer to get high. If I can avoid being on medication indefinitely that would be swell.
@washyourhandsplease So sorry to hear this! I'll be thinking about you and your family!
@Austenista I know you have been super struggling to get your meds right and its exciting that you have found something that works, but as someone who also takes both thyroid and mental health medication, I would actually recommend flipping the order. Even if just for a day or two, try to take your thyroid medicine first thing in the morning (I take mine before I even shower), then take everything else 30 minutes to an hour later when you eat breakfast. Having the thyroid medicine in you before you take your other meds will actually help you process them more effectively. This is what my doctors have (both my PCP and Psychiatrist) have always recommended to me.
I have an regular appointment on Thursday. Should just be a weight check/bp check/measure and chat with the ob before going and getting my blood drawn to check my thyroid.
@jptrumptone I would love to do just that, but because I eat breakfast with my husband right as we get up and then he heads off to work, I don't think that's giving me enough time to have an empty stomach and we enjoy taking our meals together and I'm not really keen on wanting to alter that routine. I'm very hungry when I wake up because I'm a breakfast person and I also think deliberately avoiding food while hungry will equal misery. I think giving my stomach 3+ hours to digest breakfast and then another 1.5-2hrs to not eat after taking the thyroid seems to be doing okay - that's a pretty big window for one tiny pill. I will ask my doctor what she thinks too. I appreciate the advice for sure. I want to do it right, but I also need to live and function as normally as possible.
@Austenista I'm glad to hear you've figure out a system that works with the medication. I think if you're waiting that long after eating to take it you're probably fine. Plus, my endo has always said that while it's preferable to take it first thing on an empty stomach, it's okay to switch it around as long as you're consistent every day. You may have to take a slightly higher dose than you would if you took them first thing and waited to eat, but the key is keeping things the same day to day so you're not getting a big difference in what you're absorbing day to day.
On the same topic, I saw my endo this morning - haven't been in since 20 weeks - and he actually wants me to cut back on my thyroid meds because my TSH dropped to below normal range after being on the high end of the range for the past couple of years (and through my first 20 weeks). Pregnancy is weird, guys - it's really kind of fascinating how our bodies react to it, and in such different ways.
@Austenista I'm glad you found a solution that works for you. I am a eat as soon as I wake up type person as well. When I was trying to take my thyroid meds, and then wait an hour to eat, I'd get a headache and vomit multiple times. Talked to my endo about it, and she switched me to taking it at bedtime, which works great for me. Point is, do what works for you and your body, as long as your doc os good with it.
@squiddy224@sourlemon thanks for sharing/weighing in! I was on Macrobid in the hospital they put my on Teflex or something like that (I can literally NEVER remember the name. That sounds like really strong tupperware) for the duration of pregnancy. Must be why they switched it! Thanks for the info!
I have my 32 week appointment tomorrow. I will probably give the usual report of being tired and really sore. Opposite of what some ladies here have been experiencing, my BP drops really low. It isn't dangerous, but I get super light headed and dizzy and will faint if I don't lie down immediately. Along with that comes a racing heart which is not a nice feeling, so I guess I'll be asking about that tomorrow. We'll get to schedule our 34 week u/s then too, yay!
32 week appt today. Baby is still breech. I've been having major back pain (SI joint). I asked about seeing a Chiro and was pretty actively discouraged unless it was someone I had seen before getting pregnant. I'm wearing a maternity support tank and an SI belt and it's still painful to get up and down and walk. Dr recommended PT so I called them and they can't see me until 10/28. I'm starting to wonder if I'm even going to be able to realistically get in to work everyday - I am just so slow in the mornings now due to pain. Everything else was ok.
@penelope4612 Was there any particular reason you were discouraged from seeing the chiro? My doula encouraged me to see one and it's been great for my hip/SI pain.
I went through three weeks of sessions, and received numerous exercises to do at home to help strengthen my core to help with the pain. Because our ligaments are growing and are more loose, that is causing the pain. While I don't think it was a complete waste to go to a PT, there is also not much they can do as it will continue to get worse. All that can happen right now is to show you how to strengthen and alleviate the pain.
@gowenc - she said that most chiropractors aren't properly trained to deal with pregnant women and it is dangerous to manipulate the joints when they are loose so unless I had been seeing someone before who knew my body she would recommend against it. I have heard really positive things about being adjusted in pregnancy but wanted a rec from my OB because I did want to see someone who had experience with pregnancy so without that I guess I won't pursue it for now.
@AbriannaO - thanks for the rec. PT was able to move my appt to Monday so we'll see how it goes. I've had this problem off and on for years and never found PT especially helpful but I'm basically willing to do anything.
I just finished my 8 weeks of PT last week. I agree that there isn't a long term solution since it's not like they can say "welp, that's it, you're cured of pregnancy." They did give me some stretches and gentle exercises that I could do. However, they had me stop the exercises at my last visit because I've been having constant pelvic pain. They also did some gentle adjustments during my weekly visit, which were very helpful. I hope you find some benefit and relief from yours!
@penelope4612 That makes sense. My doula recommended a chiro who does a lot of work with pregnant patients and is certified in the Webster method, which is a specific adjustment that focuses on the sacrum to help with pregnancy related pain and also to promote proper positioning of the baby. I definitely wouldn't go to a chiro who wasn't certified in that and had lots of experience, and there were only a couple in the DC area I could find that seemed to specialize. Luckily one of them was one my doula knew, and she takes my insurance.
Had my 32 week appointment today. Measuring right on track and good heart beat. Squish was over the doppler after about 10 seconds because that's when they started kicking it. This kid is too much. I go back in 2 weeks for my final ultrasound. Talled about pre e and the doc said my bp has been perfect all pregnancy and no proteins in my urine so I am low risk for developmemt. Of course that can change but we won't worry about that until I'm being seen once a week. Also went and got my flu shot today.
Edited because apparently I can't spell...

I had my 32 week appointment yesterday. Fairly uneventful (not complaining!) BP is still good, baby girl's heartbeat was 145, measuring right on track. Had my flu shot 2 weeks ago and tdap yesterday. My practice has a nurse that is a lactation consultant and she came in at the end of the appointment to cover the different pumps that they offer in-house, but they also told me I can request any pump my insurance will cover and they will work direct with their vendor and my insurance to take care of the details. Nice to know I won't have to deal with my insurance directly on this one!
I was really hoping for another US at my 34 week appointment, but they won't do another one until 36 weeks. I want to get a good look at this LO again! All in all, things are trucking along...too bad I think I'm done sleeping for the next 6 years
