Nausea overload!!

Hey everyone! I was wondering if this is normal (I'm about 7 weeks pregnant with my first child) but my nausea is really bad like all the time like crackers and 7up is my saviour. But does anyone feel nauseous when like cuddling their significant other (like cuddling at night, hugs, kisses, even intimate time)? Or am I just going insane?? Thanks everyone!!

Re: Nausea overload!!

  • Hi. (I'm at about 7 weeks too!) Unfortunately, that all sounds about right. They call it morning sickness but it can happen any time of day or night. For many people, it IS worse in the morning because they've been on a fast while sleeping and there's nothing in their system. For me, having crackers close by to nibble works best. Other people swear by hard candies, ginger tea, or lemons. Find what works for you and it will help moderate that feeling. I'm sure others will chime in with their favs. You're not crazy! And the cuddling sounds nice, by the way ---I'm too tired to do any of that, LOL. Just be thankful you're not dry-heaving between smooches.

  • I'm just annoyed when he's trying to cuddle because he's cutting into my sleep! Last pregnancy I was nauseous at night from like 6 pm on but none during day and if your SO wears deodorant or cologne in bed that could be triggering things in you to increase your nausea
  • This pregnancy I think I am buying a snoogle extra early just to create a defensive barrier. Maybe finding a way to carve out some extra space might help? When I feel queasy I really don't want to be touched at all.

  • Totally normal. I'm convinced that a man came up with the term morning sickness because any woman knows that's not true! Thankfully it usually passes when you hit the second trimester.
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • It's normal. Check out "preggo pops" I think I found that at Walgreens last time I was pregnant. This time I ordered the hard candy on Amazon. They have B6 and I pop in to suck on as soon as I wake up and it's been helping.
  • Normal. Nausea happens to at least 75% of pregnant women in the first trimester. There is a symptoms check in thread somewhere further down the line. You can see who else is goi g through it.

  • **TW** You are definitely not alone! This is my third pregnancy (first 2 ended in loss) but this is the first time I've ever experienced full-blown MS. I'm a little over 6 weeks. It hits me in waves and it's been terrible. Soooo many foods have become repulsive to me, foods that I otherwise love. Just thinking about certain foods makes me want to gag. I've basically been living off of simple carbs the last week (noodles, rice, toast, soups, etc) and ginger ale. The nausea is always worse when my stomach is empty, but it sucks because in those moments nothing sounds good to eat! I take Tums sometimes, which help a lot, but sometimes I can't bring myself to chew those. It's such an icky feeling, but I trust that it will pass eventually :)
  • I have all day nasusea. I wore sea bands today to see if they helped and I don't think they made any difference...
  • Sounds normal. Mine is worse in the evenings.  Try ginger snaps and Gingerale. Snack frequently so your stomach doesn't get empty.

    And it should get better.
  • Make sure the ginger ale you buy is made w real ginger. Otherwise it's a waste of money
  • Normal. I eat a lot of gin gins chewy candy to help it. I found week 8 to be the worst with weeks 7 and 9 close behind although a little better.

I swear by graham crackers and Coke. I also have to avoid anything super sweet. (Outside of those 2 things) That triggers mine. Find what works for you and run with it.

Eta. I have to eat a few crackers almost every hour to every hour and a half. I also can't eat BIG meals or that upsets my stomach bad

Yes to all of this. I recommend a break from sex and cuddling with your SO, unless you're feeling particularly not nauseous. My DH has come to learn, this being our third, that he will not get any for much of first tri. I do remember doing more with my first pregnancy and hating it, because I found even my DH's breath to be unbearable.

Right now I'm in the worst of it (hopefully), at just over 8 weeks. So it will probably get worse before it gets better for you, but 7 weeks is also really bad. By 10 or so you'll see some improvement.

It has been imperative for me for each pregnancy to eat pretty constantly during this time. For example, each night I have brought a banana or apple to my bedside. If I woke up in the night I'd eat some of it. And first thing in the morning I'd have some. I'm probably having about 7 "meals" a day right now. Yesterday in order I had the apple, a fage yogurt (6 oz), a granola bar, a Trader Joe's pizza/torte (supposed to serve 2, or 4+ as an appetizer), a cookie, a salad, a breaded chicken breast, a sizeable portion of spaghetti, and another fage yogurt. The first three things were basically each hour or 90 min after waking up, and the TJ pizza + cookie was lunch. The salad was a meal between lunch and dinner, and the spaghetti was dinner. The yogurt was a pre-bed snack.

  • I'm suffering from nausea & vomiting all day/night currently and I did with my son as well, my ENTIRE pregnancy.

Well, my mom had bought some granola from Trader Joe's called - Just the Clusters and it has ginger and almonds. I decided to try it just a bit ago and I swear it def gave me some relief. I just ate it out of the box. Worth a try if you have a Trader Joe's near you and it's pretty good.

I've got the gross all day nausea as well. My RE said it shouldn't get any worse than this (I'm at 8w3d). Unfortunately, I'm not sure if mine will get better soon because it stayed for me until month 7 with DD.

Frequent  small meals helps a bit but it comes right back shortly afterwards. It is such a gross feeling!

  • Argh the constant nausea! So gross. Nothing new to add - as PP said, try to eat all the carbs, ginger and watch out for your SO's cologne. My nausea gets out of control unless I'm eating constantly. Good luck!
  • Guh, nausea. I feel gross from about 10:30 am until I go to bed in the evening. It started during week 6 but I'd say it's raging now at 8w4d. Fingers crossed that it stops near the end of the first tri... all the ladies who have dealt with this for longer or throughout their pregnancy are superwomen in my book.

Coke is amazing. So is spicy food, which sounds strange but it has helped me a little. Eliminating gross smells and asking DH to kindly tackle the smellier chores also helps.
  • I'm currently sitting here trying to shove almonds down my throat with hopes that my hunger will go away and I can finally go to sleep. It's terrible. NOTHING sounds good to me, yet when my stomach is growling it's such a torturous feeling because the thought of eating makes me want to gag. But it gets worse if I don't eat! And I feel like food doesn't last me long...I ate a decent size breakfast (with enough protein) today and an hour later my stomach was growling again. I totally underestimated just how miserable MS can be.

I eat 3 meals before lunch. It's the only way.

Yep, what @kat81 said. Mine is worst in the morning so i have to pretty much constantly be eating something until lunch time. I find that if i eat a sizeable lunch, that will last me longer through the afternoon and then i can snack a little before dinner. Doesn't work that way with breakfast for me.

ETA: i bought a half gallon of milk and a can of ovaltine to keep at my work. I'll make a glass of that a couple times throughout the day and that will help too and give me some good protein and calcium.

  • I'm about 7 weeks, and the nausea is much worse than I remember last time! I recently discovered Spindrift (https://spindriftfresh.com/drinks-category/sparkling-waters/) and it is a lifesaver. They have it at Panera, which is where I first tried it. I then went to Target and bought all of the flavors. Its just carbonated water with a touch of fruit puree/juice. The grapefruit and lemon flavors work best for me. That + Skinny Pop help me survive the work day.

@jatwal128 - Ovaltine actually sounds really good- that's a great idea!

  • Mine seems to get worse as the day goes on. I force fed myself some yogurt w/ almonds early this morning, and now I'm sipping on a banana/Nutella/peanut butter/chia seed/almond milk smoothie. I was up at 4 this morning and ate an apple--then my stomach started growling again 5 mins later, so then I ate some tortilla chips. My husband just texted me and asked what I want for dinner and I nearly gagged. Lol
  • Yup! Sounds just like me! Jolly ranchers (specifically watermelon or Apple! ) and ginger ale help.
  • Yup! I'm a first timer too and I've had horrid nausea since week 5. I'm hoping it goes away eventually. The only thing that seems to curb it is carbs (breads and pasta). Crackers and gingerale do nothing for me. :( Meat especially makes it worse.

  • Pickles are helping me big time.
  • I sipped on a big bottle of club soda today, which was helpful. I'm finding that plain bottled water makes me more nauseous. The fizziness of carbonated water helps my stomach. Makes me feel bloated as all hell, but it helps me feel better. Lol.
  • Yes, water is making it worse.
  • All day nausea here as well......very few episodes of actually vomiting but the nausea is a constant. It was the opposite with my DD - I had morning sickness as soon as I would wake up until about 14 weeks - but once I had vomited I was fine the rest of the day. The only thing I have found that settles my stomach is some sort of pop - pepsi, canada dry, etc.
  • Yep thats normal. Thats how it was for both of my previous pregnancies in the beginning 6-15 weeks
  • I have nausea allllllllll day. It sucks. I get a little depressed thinking that I still probably have several weeks before it will go away.  The worst part is that I still have to continue on with my everyday life and act fine at work because no one knows. Also I couldn't wait for my DH to get home yesterday so he could care for DS but he came home and planted himself on the couch because he had a fever. Now DH is sick and the world is ending at my house.... men..pshhh.....
  • My nausea picked up as soon as I hit 6 weeks and I've been miserable!  It's so hard finding something I can keep down.  The other day I threw up from eating a plain bagel.  My doctor gave me meds but I've still been feeling pretty awful. I definitely underestimated how awful morning sickness could be!!
  • @LCRbelle Oh I feel so awful for you! I just have nausea (and today a headache that feels like the end of the world) but no puking yet but it's enough to make me feel so damn awful!!
  • Sorry to all who are throwing up/feeling terrible today.  The first tri really is no fun.
  • lrwardrop , I totally feel your pain...while I haven't been nauseous all day, I've felt like complete crap all day, every day. My husband has been dealing with pneumonia for the past 2 weeks and is driving me CRAZY. I need some help with the toddler...I understand that you want to sit on the couch and stare at the wall. I do, too! I'd like to think growing a human trumps regular person sickness on the pity scale.

  • I did so well with very little nausea til about 7 weeks. Then it hit like a truck. I've been miserable. That's why I haven't posted much recently. Even looking at my phone makes me dizzy. And I had been able to drink coffee til then, so I stopped cold turkey and had these horrible headaches. Then all of a sudden today I wake up and feel human again (9.5 weeks now). I hope everything is OK, but it's nice to get this break.

  • I've been so miserable the past 3 days. I hit the 7 week mark on Thursday. I'm constantly hungry but the thought of eating makes me want to puke. There's a momentary lift of the nausea in the early evening, at which point I'm able to eat without problems. But then I'm hungry an hour later and the nausea comes back!  So frustrating. I also got weighed the other day and have gained 3 lbs, probably because the only things I ever feel like eating aren't the healthiest things. That's been discouraging for me as well. Work sucked last week since that was the first week of full blown MS.
