My friend is making me this onesie with baby's name. I am so excited. I am so in love with her name! I am so happy that I like this name this much. I was worried about feeling luke warm since its our 3rd girl, but I can already feel how much it suits her.

You'll have to give us a secret code to watch for. That way, someday I can say, hey that girls mom was on the bump the same time I was lol
I received confirmation today that we are actually getting a paid maternity leave starting January 1! The details "will be mailed to me" which get in the freaking 21st century and email them to me, but still! Went from 1 week PTO, 5 weeks @ 60% STD, and 6 weeks unpaid, to something paid! I haven't been this excited for the mail since applying for law school.
It appears DH is starting to feel like this pregnancy is more "real" now... Probably because I'm showing some, but also because I bought him this book on the recommendation of my BIL. It's called The Expectant Father, and H takes it to work with him every night (he works graves and has a lot of down time). He texts me multiple times a night to ask me about symptoms, tell me what the book says, etc. It's pretty cute.
Last night he texted to ask how I am feeling, because his book says my vision might be changing (it's definitely gotten worse) and that my boobs might be leaking (not yet). He then said that since the baby can hear outside sounds now, I should play music for him if I am not watching TV, "so he has something to listen to". He also wants to make special headphones to go over my belly so he can listen to classical music. And he wants to start reading to the baby. I told him no Game of Thrones (mainly because I don't want to listen to it all again, I have already read them), but we agreed on The Hobbit and/or Lord of the Rings.
And then this morning I woke up to a text, with a picture of a page from his book with a paragraph circled. The paragraph he wanted to call my attention to was about a study (a very small study, mind you) that shows that women who regularly gave their husbands blow jobs and swallowed had a lower incidence of pre-eclampsia - my sister recently had pre-eclampsia, so he thought it would be good to know. But I take that as a hint he wants more blow jobs?
It's nice to see him feeling more invested now - I know that for non-pregnant partners it can take longer for it to all seem real, but I am loving his enthusiasm.
@madamerwin that's hilarious! Way to be subtle. I have like 5 books checked out from the library, all baby topics, and husband has yet to even pick one up to look at the title.
@AfKash I definitely recommend The Expectant Father - it's broken down month-by-month, but it covers the spectrum of topics. Each chapter starts with what's going on with the baby this month, what's going on with your pregnant partner, and what you, as the father, may be going through. But then it delves into other topics, like finances, eating right, etc. It also has sections for things like fertility treatments, adoption, etc. that you can skip over if they are not relevant. It's super conversational, specifically written for the father (but also great for the mother-to-be - I found a lot of the info very useful), and both my BIL and DH have found it to be a great resource. It took H about a week to pick it up, but now he seems to read it regularly. He's already caught up to the current month, and I wouldn't be surprised if he reads ahead.
@Afkash If you're having trouble getting him to read anything, I highly recommend "Dude, You're Gonna Be A Dad!" It's sort of silly, but DH wouldn't read anything and totally loves this book. It's got a lot of guy humor in it from what I can tell, but it's been super helpful. There's a lot of good info in there and DH is a changed man since he started reading it!
I just got an alignment on my car, two new brakes, 3 news tires, and a rotation all for $210. Locally owned businesses ftw!
ETA: I got up to pay and the owner told me someone had paid half my balance and told him to tell me congratulations on my pregnancy so I only ended up paying like $100. I almost cried right then and there.
I have a prenatal massage at 7pm tonight with my amaaaaziing masseuse, named Bill. He knows how to dig right into those glutes.... ::drooling::
Also, call me FTM crazy, but I was snuggling with with an adorably sweet little 8 week old baby this morning and realized MY BABY'S DUE DATE IS EXACTLY FOUR MONTHS FROM TODAY!!!! And I can't wait to hold him and love him and snuggle him and I know I'll be exhausted and he will poop and drool all over me and make my nipples chap, but this has been my lifelong dream AND IM SO EXCITED!!!!
I'm the family member that always not-so-patiently waits for people to let me hold their babies and now I'll have one all of my own to love and snuggle and adore... and my husband is literally going to be the most amazing daddy ever and already still makes my heart melt on a daily basis! I can't wait!!!!!
(I'm also super sorry if I just made anyone throw up a little... lol)
@TeacherMom2517 I love how excited you are and did not throw up a little at all!
I'm also a FTM but I'm more in the holy crap can we do this/ what were we thinking camp right now, and 4 months is so soon!! This is all happening too fast for me!!!
@madamerwin Sounds like you found a reason right there for me not to buy this book for my husband. He'd definitely zero in on that one, too. Cracks me up there was ANY study done about swallowing ejaculate and pre-e. Definitely funded by men, that one.
@TeacherMom2517 Maybe a teeny bit vomit-worthy, but mostly it was just the sweetest most uplifting thing I've heard all day. Your excitement to be a mom is contagiously lovely.
@LivingLaVidaGinger holy shit!!!! That is super awesome!! How nice of that person!!
@madamerwin and @scifichick09 thank toy for your recommendations! I all check those out this weekend. However, @madamerwin, I might have to tear out any pages where it talks about what I should eat. I hate when husband tries to tell me what to eat (it's a deep seeded control issue I've dealt with since I was a kid).
This is huge news, that means no one is going to come in and fire us all. It means all the hard work is finally paying off and it shows focus on the arts helps test scores. YEAH!!
@AfKash so far the only food recommendations I have encountered are phrased more like "Studies show that women who drink more than 3 cups of milk/day have taller babies than women who drink less than 1 cup/month." Not so much, "Your partner should be eating X and Y." The nutrition section covers broad nutrition - like, that women should be getting 70g of protein, X amount of iron and calcium, etc. Nothing over-the-top; that's one thing I really like about this book, it is geared more toward facts and studies related to nutrients vs. giving concrete recommendations about specific foods. Though it does encourage men to pick up some slack in the cooking department, and even has a section of recipes intended for people who suck at cooking. And while H is a really good cook, he's lazy and would rather eat whatever he can find, so I'm hoping the recipes inspire him.

Congrats!

@madamerwin ooooo thanks for sharing that! Now I really need to go get that book!! I'm nervous about my kid being tall. I'm tall for an Indian girl, but husband is short for a man. For a Pakistani man, though, he's probably average. I want tall kids. I need to start chugging that milk!
@AfKash I'm 5'3" (on a good day), H is 6'4". All the men in his family are over 6' except for his dad. He REALLY wants to be sure our son gets his height When he found that stat about milk and height, he did ask me if I was drinking enough milk, and told me I should drink more milk. I don't really mind him telling me to do things like drink milk, though I don't like when he tells me what NOT to eat, which is rare anyway.
I got some news I was hoping for on the maternity leave front today! It's so hard to plan when the entire thing is predicated on a giant variable (delivery date), but I think I'll be able to take 10-12 weeks instead of the 7-8 I was initially planning. Again, still not sure, but I've got more options than I thought
My DS told me I look beautiful even with lots more gray hair lol this was even after I broke the news to him that he will be getting another little sister instead of the brother he wanted so badly.
Thankful for my H. He spoils me to no end--we went to "look" at gliders, I was explaining that since it's the last big thing on the list and something I'd like to use for years, blah blah I want to get a really nice one. After a bit we wandered into the recliner/actual living room furniture. I ended up sitting in a gliding recliner and falling in love--until I saw the too-much-for-my-budget price tag. I made the comment that it's perfect except the price, and moved on. H started paperwork and such while I was distracted, guess who's getting her dream chair?
