Contractions & Passed Some of Mucus Plug

So. As some of y'all may remember from past posts, I am high-risk for preterm labor because I have a condition called uterus didelphys (two uterus and also two cervix). My son is kicking it in Left Uterus and I am 29+5 right now.

Last night I went to pee, wiped, and came away with a rather large glop of gooey mucus. I was also experiencing some cramping and decided a call to my doc was in order. She sent me straight to L&D where baby and I were hooked up to monitors & my cervix was checked. (It's been checked every 2-3 weeks for my entire pregnancy pretty much and has held steady). Thankfully it remains closed.

However, I was having contractions and his heart rate dropped a bit - scariest minutes of my life yet - so they gave me an IV of terbutaline to stop them. It worked. They also administered a fetal fibronecton test to check for preterm labor signs in my cervical fluid. It was positive. This means I COULD go into labor in the next couple of weeks, so, in prep for that possibility they gave me a special steroid shot that will promote the maturity of his lungs just in case.  I will get another round of that tonight (it's currently 2am between Friday and Saturday).

ALL OF THAT (so sorry for the length) is to ask...

Anyone here with terbutaline-for-pre-term-labor experience? Positive FFN tests? I've searched and didn't find specific reference to them though I know we have a few mamas with early labor scares and concerns right now and think there have been steroid mentions.

Thank you for your patience with this FTM.

@Kate08Young I did specifically think of you and wondered if I had my info right. I almost tagged you but I often question my memory on whose story is whose in our active board! You've been monitoring your little girl pretty closely for a while now if I'm not mistaken? What's your current status?

This was a super unsettling experience and I hope both our little goobers stay snuggled up for a good bit longer!!

Every 2 weeks from 22-26, then every week. I think we have had 5 L&D trips between 28-now.

it's a day to day thing for us, but we had steroids 3 weeks ago, and that same trip was the ter. And FFN.

    You can do it!!

@Kate08Young whew. You're on a marathon run for real. I'll be thinking of you every day. We both can do it! ❤️

I think we are good so far today.  I've been laying around and drinking water like crazy. Ollie has been active which helps to settle my worry. Monitoring contractions is going well - only BH and they're pretty spaced apart. I believe things are good but that I need to make some life modifications to avoid a turning point. They said my first 48 after last night are the first milestone, then two more weeks, and then we will go from there.

It's a great practice for parenting. I think we are on plan BB right now.

it is the longest marathon I will ever do, but it has the best reward that is actually in sight right now. You can do this!!!!!! PM me anytime, and know that you have all of my thoughts and prayers that don't go to E.

  • I had the FFN test done on Tuesday because I was having a lot of cramps so my doctor decided to check my cervix, which was closed, and give me the test to be on the safe side. Mine can back negative, so I have no experience with it being positive but I know I would have been nervous if it had come back positive.... I also don't know the statistics on the FFN test. Did your doctor mention what the actual probability of you going into preterm labor since it came back positive? Sending good vibes your way that your little one stays put for a little while longer!
  • Hoping that everything continues to go well and that your little one stays put inside for several weeks yet @swhiddon33 (and you too @Kate08Young)!  Thinking of you and keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

  • @mimi603107 The positive result means my body is leaking that fluid and my chances are increased for labor within the next couple of weeks. This doesn't mean it's imminent but it does mean I have now upped again my already higher stat to deliver pre-term. The negative you got means there's over a 90% chance you WON'T but I don't know the number for the MIGHT.  The plan is to get me to 30 on Monday. Then 32. Then 34. Then so on!

  • @swhiddon33 I was told that the positive meant that your water bag was separating from your ute lining, not that you were leaking.

Hmm. I don't like that we got two completely different answers to what this means. All of the paperwork they gave me and nothing mentioned water bag separation??
