We had our anatomy scan yesterday. Everything was good except for them not being able to see the heart chambers. We could hear the heart beat only. Now they will be sending us to see a specialist to double check the heart. Has anyone went thru this before??
I think this is fine for its own thread but I might make the subject line more specific -- anyway, I haven't had this issue before but I hope that you get some good answers soon!

Maybe.....but as we all start getting our A/S done it's going to get crazy in here if we all start posting individual threads for related questions. Maybe we should start an "A/S questions/concerns" thread.

I think that would be a good idea. I think there will be several people have questions and concerns regarding their US and it will be way easier to keep up on them and respond, or find the info in one spot.
ETA: I've never had that happen, and have no experience to share @Jennvega87

I mean an Anatomy Scan's an appointment, like any other appointment, so I would think it should be under the appointment thread.
FWIW OP if your not as far along as they thought it can raise red flags that might not be there otherwise, which is probably why they're following up in a couple weeks. Good Luck!
It is very common to not get all shots of certain parts they want to see. However, at this point they typically would bring you back in another week or two for a repeat scan instead of sending you straight to cardiology for a fetal echo. Were they concerned about something they saw? Did they elaborate at all?
I had my A/S on Monday at 18+6. Baby was lying face down and the tech had trouble getting a good look at its profile. Midwife called today to let me know that the specialist who reviews all the ultrasounds wants me to come back in a week or two and see if we can get a better look at baby's left ankle and a part of its heart. I was told by the tech that ultrasound is very position-dependent and am trying not to worry as nothing that was shown looked abnormal. My follow-up A/S is scheduled for two weeks from today. Good luck to you.
I was just told that my doc has one of the best ultrasound techs & that she couldnt see the heart chambers. So there sending me to a specialist. My doc said not to worry until I see the specialist But that is impossible. I googled it & I shouldn't have. I have looked on the forum & didn't see where everyone was posting about anatomy scan issues so that's why I posted here.
Although Appointments is definitely perfect for this topic, since I do have an answer I'll share it A variation on the same thing happened to me. My baby was head down and they just couldn't get a good view of the heart chambers. My guess is that 1) they're sending you to a specialist since they will have a different/more powerful US , not because they saw something to worry about, and 2) you got a tech with a really poor bedside manner who made you worry when there is no need to until they actually get the views they need.
I don't have personal experience, but a similar thing happened to one of my friends last month. They also said it really depends on the position of baby. Her second anatomy scan went great and they were able to see everything they needed to. Hopefully your next ultrasound will ease your worries! Also, Google is not your friend in this case.
+1 for the appointments thread being the best place for this but have experience will give my 2 cents. I had my a/s last week & our little girl was in an awkward position in that her arm was causing a shadow near the heart & whilst the tech could see the chambers & the aorta, they couldnt see the vessels on the other side due to the shadow. They booked me back in on tuesday past & she was still in the same position but the tech had me roll on my side & different positions until she got the view she needed. I was really worried about it before i had my second scan despite their reassurance beforehand. Fingers crossed that your next scan is good news!

@Jennvega87 - when we went last week, baby girl was not in a good position to see her heart chambers. Dr said her heart activity is good, but she needs to see the heart so we have to go back in Oct for a repeat anatomy scan.

I went through it with my first pregnancy. We had to schedule an echocardiogram so that the specialist could get more detailed pictures of the heart as our baby girl grew. If you have additional questions about the process, feel free to PM me

Just got back from the A/S. The doctor said that the ultrasound tech didn't get to see and measure everything they normally like to see because my amniotic fluid levels were a little low, so baby didn't have a ton of room to move around in. She's making me an appointment with a high risk ultrasound specialist so they can get more measurements. She didn't specifically state what my levels were or that they are like terribly low I should be concerned or anything, just that baby isn't flailing around and spread-eagling (his legs were crossed under his butt actually). Has anyone had this? I've googled and women had very severe situations like going on bedrest, having their babies between 23-33 weeks, being hospitalized so lungs could form, asked if they want to terminate (will not even be a consideration for us) etc. Please send good baby loving and fluid building vibes our way! I'm chugging as much water as I can fathom now.
I'm sorry, @TeacherMom2017. FX all is okay. I'm not familiar with low amniotic fluid situations, but the good news is that if there is a problem they are on top of it and will do what they need to do for your LO. Do your best to stay off Google, though I know that's so hard.
@TeacherMom2517 my cousin had experiences with low and leaking amniotic fluid. Each of her kids are healthy and growing today. I know the basic facts of her story, but I'll try to get a hold of her tomorrow to see if I can get more details to share with you, before I comment on what I do know.
@TeacherMom2517 my best friend just had her baby and she had low fluid level for a while. She told me that her doctor recommended drinking some Gatorade along with upping her water intake because her electrolytes were out of balance and that's why she had low fluid. It sounds like a really good thing that your doc saw this and they're looking into it early. Try not to stress too much (easier said than done, I know) and just do what the doc instructs. Thoughts and prayers for you!!
@kswiger06 thank you so much! I would really love to hear and appreciate any insight she has or you have!
@becbec28 thank you for the advice! Gatorade should also help with the fact that water tastes so bland and I get bored of it easily :-( Great thinking! TMI, but I've also noticed a change in my bowels lately, so maybe I do need to replenish those electrolytes!
Thank you everyone for your comments! Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers and send warm wishes our way! We have the high risk specialist appointment next Friday for an ultrasound there and I'm hoping they just say "Oh! Everything looks good! He's just growing fast and your body needs to catch up!" The doctor said he currently weighs 13 ounces and from my sources it says he's not supposed to be there for another two weeks, so we shall see! All positive vibes and energy welcome!!! :-)
