@luckywife10 you're living my dream! I like what I do but I wish I had pursued a career in speech path years ago because I think I would have liked it a lot. I think the idea of working with high-needs kids but not as a school-based employee (i.e. not having to deal with the school BS) really appeals to me.
@luckywife10 That's awesome! I don't tend to "meet" many of us out in the wild. Dysphagia is probably my favorite of the big 9 areas, which is one of the main reasons I've been working with geriatrics. I hope grad school is treating you well!
@RainyDay86 I completely agree! I worked in a metro school system as an SLP for about 9 months right after graduation. I just felt as though I was never able to fully provide the quality services that my students needed because of all of the other demands (caseload number, IEP meetings, etc.) and lack of actual support from my supervisors. However, working with children in an outpatient or private setting does sound very appealing and probably more productive.
I teach at the local U. My undergrad is from Oklahoma: Boomer Sooner! I wish I was in a field that would more easily allow me to go part-time for a few years, but on the whole I'd say I'm in the right field.
Married 10 years. 1 DD (5 y/o). Thrilled to be pregnant with LO#2 after almost 3 years of trying: due May 2017
I manage a doggy daycare. Previously was a zoo keeper.
Graduated with a degree in zoology (prefer to keep the location anonymous)
Other dream job? SAHM/farmer. We have 8 acres of land and have started a small orchard and our own vegetable garden. I'd love to get a couple goats and be at home with my family of odd animals and plant life.
