I've been struggling through it the last week too, and crazy vivid dreams. I don't remember insomnia until third trimester with my previous two pregnancies so I'm at a loss of what to do at this point! I figured it would be one of my questions when I have my first appointment....

I'm having it too off and on! So strange because I'm typically a great sleeper. 4wks 1 day, so I'm wondering if it'll go away when my fatigue kicks in?
I'm on the insomnia train too. I can fall asleep, but I wake up crazy early and am exhausted all day long! Vivid dreams when I'm actually sleeping, also.
Count me in as well. Prior to last night I was getting up between 4:30 and 5 every morning since about week 4. Last night I was up every two hours for no reason. Work is going to be exhausting today.
Yes!!! This is my main symptom right now. I'm going to bed so much earlier that usual because I'm exhausted but once I wake up I can't go back to sleep. The day I got my BFP I had woken up at 4am. I'm lucky to be at home most of the day since I work evenings during the week so I'm gonna start trying to take a nap during the day.

I've had awful insomnia for about five years prior to getting pregnant and now I've had to quit my sleeping meds. My doctor said that I can take one Benadryl and some of my anxiety medication to help until I see the OB. I want to sleep without any help, so I'm really hoping the pregnancy fatigue sets in soon!
Yes! It doesn't help that we have a bunch of elk in our neighborhood and its elk mating season so the bulls are doing their mating call all night long (mountain living problems). I also cut coffee when I got my BFP so I'm dying at work. Anyone still drinking coffee? My doctor last time said it was fine but the internet disagrees.

@rainydays86 I was still allowing myself one cup a day but had to cut it out when nausea set in. I still have a desire for the taste but my heart burn can't handle it at the moment.

@RainyDays86 last time my doctor specifically told me not to stop caffeine. He said it would trigger even more headaches and make me too sick. This time I quit before getting pregnant so I wouldn't have to deal with it.
I was having pretty bad insomnia but then I started taking unisom for nausea so I am sleeping really well now!
My last two pregnancies I cut my coffee to one cup a day at the beginning and then weaned myself to half-caf for the rest of the time and while I was breastfeeding. I've always been told by my doctors that it's worse to just cold turkey no coffee because of the headaches and that coffee was ok, but to try to limit it.

I have insomnia when I'm not pregnant and usually it gets worse when I am pregnant but this time it hasn't been too bad. I am gonna ask my doc about taking skullcap to help if it comes back (which I'm almost positive it will)

I had insomnia last time around too. It's miserable. I feel awful for people who have this all the time. I had restless legs last pregnancy too and just can't wait until that starts...
@RainyDays86 I'm still drinking some coffee. I drink between one-two cups in the morning. I've been addicted to caffeine for probably a decade now and the migraines I get without it are horrible. I would like to work down to only one cup. I'm not drinking any other caffeinated beverages, and I won't be having any PSLs (or pumpkin ales). What's the pregnancy friendly version of delicious pumpkin drinks?
@sarah0985, @amprince22, and @tumbleweed glad to hear you guys are still drinking coffee. I think I may need to have some half caf or something because I have just been a waste of space at work lately.
This is the worst symptom I've had so far! Haven't had a good night sleep in about a week. I'm exhausted! I'm going to the doctor tomorrow so I may mention this and see if he has any instructions.
Usually I want to sleep for as long as my 2 yr old will let me and today I woke up before he did and couldn't go back to sleep. Probably only got about 6ish hours and that's not great for me. I've also been tapering down my morning coffee and decided to go without it today, so extra tired now. I'm kind of paranoid about drinking coffee and tea, not just for the caffeine, but also because there are so many different compounds in those drinks and I don't think it's known what they all might do. No studies out there that I know of to cause concern though other than having too much caffeine. Maybe I'll try again after first trimester..

This has been me for the past week. I wake up in the middle of the night to pee, then start googling every tiny twinge and symptoms for an hour or two. I think mine is anxiety related.
I definitely still drink coffee! Correlation vs. Causation plays a big part in the myth that caffeine is bad. Typically women who can't handle caffeine have increased morning sickness. Morning sickness relates to healthy pregnancy. Anyway, long story short, I still drink it but it has to be cold now. I played it safe and cut out caffeine for a few pregnancies and it didn't do anything other than give me headaches.
Thanks @FlyChick I know my paranoia is unwarrented, but I can't seem to shake it. My OB even told me during my first pregnancy that the only studies linking coffee to miscarriage were with women who had like six cups a day. I know these things, but I get such serious anxiety in the first tri that all my logical thinking skills go out the window.
Not insomnia, but I have been waking up in the early, early AM and not able to fall back asleep. I've also been getting some hot flashes where my heart feels like it is racing. I'm sure it hormone related, but it sure is annoying when I would rather be sleeping.
I have issues with this as well (of course it could be due to the fact that my 18 month old refuses to sleep in any bed other than mine) but one thing that really helps me is Magnesium. I have a Magnesium spray that I spritz all over my body at night and then I take a hot shower after leaving it on for 20 minutes. It's a miracle, I tell ya. There's a theory out there that morning sickness and muscle cramps in pregnancy could be a sign of mag deficiency, so I figure it can't hurt. Usually I sleep like a baby after. If that doesn't work then I listen to a guided meditation for sleep. They have all kinds on Youtube. It's a little weird at first, but hey, whatever works...
RainyDays86 , definitely still drinking coffee (and caffeinated beverages) I just cut back. I switch my morning iced coffee to iced green tea and sometimes and iced latte (espresso has less caffeine than the cold brew iced coffee at Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks) and if I'm really dragging in the afternoon, I have another iced tea. I try to keep it under 200 mg of caffeine in a day, but I'm sure some days I go a little over and it's still WAYYYY less than I was drinking before I was knocked up.
DS usually wakes up around 3 or 4 and takes a little soothing to go back to sleep. It hadn't been a big deal (although I'm sure not a great long term habit) but lately I can't go back to sleep after! My husband kept asking if it was pregnancy related and I said no every time. GUESS IT IS!
I'm about to reread all of the other posts and may answer my own question, but has anyone tried melatonin?
