Re: Unpopular Opinions 9.15

  • @catem07 I have not tried deep fried turkey, although I would imagine that it's better than roasting the whole thing in the oven.  I never host Thanksgiving dinner, so I don't really have a choice as to what is served.

  • The only foods I really like from Thanksgiving is the green bean casserole and the cranberries. DH's family does NEITHER. I don't have any love for turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, pumpkin pie...ICK. I do love the dinner rolls, though...

Ironically, Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because fall is my favorite and I love getting to be with my whole family.

  • I love Thanksgiving... only 3 more weeks for this Canuck :) Foodwise, I'm all about the turkey (dark meat only and deep fried is better), mashed potatoes and gravy, pumpkin pie and devilled eggs... yum. I could totally pass on the stuffing and cranberries and we generally just do steamed veggies with butter rather than casseroles. DH's family does cabbage rolls and a couple other ukranian dishes... no perogies tho :(
  • @chelle087 I'm hosting this year after three years of dry turkey at my ILs. Looking forward to it.

  • Add me to the list of tamale-eaters at Christmas. I'm not Hispanic, but I grew up in San Antonio, so it's definitely a must that time of year. We will sometimes swap and do fajitas instead of tamales, but I promise you, tamales will be consumed.

  • I'm jealous of everyone celebrating Thanksgiving!  I work in online retail and the days leading up to Black Friday are the busiest of the year.  So I've worked many T-givings and having zero breZk means we can't travel back east to see family.  We've done low key Tgivings with friends but it's not the same.
  • Mine is going to kinda spring from the comments on this thread, but I 100% prefer halloween to thanksgiving.  Like, holiday-wise, Halloween is my shit.  Then Christmas, then New Years, and then I guess Thanksgiving can fall in line toward the end.
