  • Man I love my front loader, but it it is the most basic of basic front loaders got it about 7 years ago. It does everything I need, nothing fancy, it is not complicated at all and it is easier for me as a short person.

  • We had an AWESOME top loader, then it broke at the same time my ILs sold their house. They gave us their fancy front loaders and they freaking suck.
    Boo.
But I can't justify buying new ones until these POS break.
  • OMG I hate my top loader, my mom has a front loader and I love doing laundry there.  She offered to buy me a new LG front loading washer and dryer and I'm totally taking her up on it.

I don't get the front loader hate. We have one from Siemens and it is amazing.

They smell if you don't clean them ALLTHETIME and my clothes don't get as clean. And I have to do much smaller loads

Any time DH does laundry, it always leaks. I have no freaking clue how he does it, but whatever settings he uses, it leaks. I can stand there with him, show him exactly what buttons to push, and it doesn't leak. He puts a load in without my micromanagement? It effin' leaks! WTF do you do, TW!?

    ETA: We have a frontloader.
  • Jumping on the front loader/top loader debate... Our housemates want to get a new front loader and I am like, dudes thats fine, but put the top loader in the garage. It was a non-negotiable when moving in because we cloth diaper and I've heard horror stories about front loaders and CD's.

  • and you can't soak in them and have to drain them out in the bottom (it's disgusting) and clean them at LEAST monthly. you have to leave them wide open all the time because the magnet partial shutting thing keeps like 90% of the moisture in there..

  • @peachesnbean I've heard the horror stories about CDing with a front loader as well. I'm really not looking forward to troubleshooting that wash routine

And here I was daydreaming about replacing the washer with a cheaper top loader, and our garage door mechanism breaks and the door slammed down about 2 feet. This homeownership thing is certainly trial by fire!
  • We had really nice LG washer and dryers and I sold them to get a Samsung top load washer. I hated having a front loader!
  • @yogadevil did your spring break?  we just recently replaced our springs and it was pretty cheap.
  • @yogadevil I've heard of mommas keeping their front loader and getting a $100 CL cheapie for diapers.

@PerraSucia I don't know? Something snapped and theres a broken piece of rope hanging down from it. The door hardware detached from the mechanism that slides forward/backward to move the door up and down

ETA that rope piece could've been there all along for all I know and it's just frayed with time
  • @yogadevil on the side or the middle?
  • I have a front loader the whole time I have cloth diapered and had no issues.  I have actually had issues when traveling and using top loaders, but that is because my routine had to be tweaked.  But if you don't leave the door open between washing it stinks as gets mildew/mold build-up.

My TW for today is another manager in my work.  Tried to refuse to do a function this Saturday months ago but made so that I couldn't object by going above me. Told that other office would participate together because the function doesn't really apply to our office.  Other office backs out today and they were supposed to do our activity at the function.  Pissed because I said no from the beginning for a reason and no one listened.  Already had one phone call with the high ups because this stinks.  Oh and I hurt my back picking up my 4 year old this morning.  Lovely Tuesday all around

@PerraSucia whatever that silver slidey thing attaches to. Its on the long railing that goes from the door itself to the motor unit. DH got it attached again, but it comes disconnected to the guide fairly easily.

That frayed rope is just where that red handle device was at some point, but wasn't the part that broke today
  • My TW is the frickle fracking ER Doctor I was seen by a few weeks ago. I slipped in my dog's piss in the foyer which is hardwood and it opens up into my living room that has concrete under the carpet (townhome probs) and I ended up falling and landing on my jaw, breaking two teeth and hole-punching my chin. I went to the hospital and had to argue with this dickhead to get a U/S to check on baby. Anyway, I ended up needed 10 internal stitches and 5 external in my chin. They've healed up since then but he left a long string of internal stitching out of the wound so my chin healed around the string. I didn't realize it until today when I thought it was dead skin hanging there and I pulled it and it ran the length of the scar and I thought I had ripped it back open. I had to cut it with nail clippers. I thought internal stitches were supposed to be internal!? The doctor as a whole was an incompetent asshole.

  • @yogadevil if you manually open the garage it won't click back in?  Like if you push up the handle the string is attached too?

    @LivingLaVidaGinger whoaly fucking shit

@LivingLaVidaGinger holy shit! When did this happen? Did you follow up with your own doctor? Also, the hospitals usually send you a survey after an ER visit.  I highly recommend you complete that.  In general, ER doctors are idiots. There's a few really good ones, but in general, they're just idiots.

Edit: Nevermind, you already said it was a few weeks ago.

  • @LivingLaVidaGinger omg!! That sucks and that Dr is a total TW.
  • @PerraSucia Yes, that's how DH got it attached again. The connection is somewhat of a loose one though, it clicks in but the vibrations from the ancient motor unit are what's causing it to pop back off again pretty easily each time it opens/closes. Something up there needs to be tightened for sure
  • @srscott3 I should say then that in my experience, I've had more idiots then ones that knew what they were doing.

Could you share your CD routine? When I CDd DD I more or less was permanently optimizing until she potty trained. She still poops in diapers, though and we just went the disposable route for those 1-2 diapers/day.

  • So I have another TW even though it's Wednesday.  My job.  Basically, I work in a grant funded position and my funding is up in December.  Originally I was going to look for something new but once I became pregnant things kind of changed.  I know it's not my boss' problem that I'm pregnant but she doesn't know if there will be any projects for me to work on because she says funding is up in the air.  The thing that bothers me is that they're hiring people like crazy so I don't understand why I can't work on one of those projects.  I feel like I need to stay in my job or at least with the university because if I go somewhere new I won't qualify for FMLA.  It just stresses me out that there's the possibility of being unemployed at 7 months pregnant.

  • @CurlyCupcake21 you don't think they're passing you over on other projects because you're pregnant do you?
  • @cantalopes24 I don't think so.  I mean we had 3 people just come back from maternity leave and one person who just went out on leave so they seem fine with people being pregnant.  I almost feel like they're trying to push me out because I'm not good enough but I also don't want to think that because in the past year I've taken on a lot more responsibility and was running my own project (that's ending in December).  I feel like I've really grown a lot in the past year.
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @CurlyCupcake21 that really sucks. Are you at least eligible for unemployment until you deliver if you lose your funding?
  • @cantalopes24 yeah, I am eligible thankfully.  The university also has a good severance package.  I know it won't be the end of the world it just sucks to have to think about finding a new job right now.  And it also makes me overly emotional about it.

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @CurlyCupcake21 Have you applied for the other jobs that they've been hiring for? Sometimes that's necessary when your boss who should be putting you forward isn't...
