This is a place for those of us who have already started TTC, but have started infertility testing and/or treatments. You can express your thoughts, feelings, and frustrations on infertility. TTC can be a long journey naturally, then add in the difficulties associated with infertility and it becomes a whole new ball game. The road to infertility can be lonely, frustrating, and complicated, so let's make this a place where we can vent, ask questions, and support one another. What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) clomid + trigger. Will discuss if we need to add IUI this cycle at my scan

How are things going? Ugh.

Any questions? I know progesterone normally makes your periods heavier. Had anyone experienced it making theirs lighter and shorter? The one before my first medicated cycle was only 2 days and I'm wondering if that affects anything? This one is much lighter than mine used to be. Since my third loss they seem to be 2-3 days and light to medium. Mine used to be super heavy for 2 days then light for 4

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?)- I call RE tomorrow to get my calender and the IVF breakdown. I am doing an antagonist protocol with lupron trigger (to reduce chances of OHSS). This is our last shot naturally

How are things going? Ok! I will have high hopes for this last natural cycle...lol But at the same time am really excited to get the ball rolling!

Any questions? Anyone here done IVF? Or know someone who has used a lupron trigger? I am trying to read more about it..but just wondering.. will ask on IF board as well.

@DungeonTrollMel. I wouldn't worry too much about your period length. Before progesterone mine were like 3-4 days and crazy light. After progesterone I was prepared for a blood bath (sorry for the visual) but it wasn't that bad. I had maybe half a day of medium flow. Good luck at your scan today!

No letrozole due to suspected cyst that seems to have resolved itself, pregnyl trigger, IUI and progesterone

my Boobs hurt more than usual, but I am sure that was from the trigger. The progesterone cramps have started so that's cool lol

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) Repeat SA (trying to schedule for next Friday), hematology consult and OH needs to get BW

How are things going? Ok- I feel more relaxed now that OH is on board it seems to be on board. I feel now that I know we aren't completely out of options and that IVF is in reach, I can breathe a little bit. Also, We canceled our venue and they waived the cancellation fees. We are talking about getting married in Vegas in beginning of year and eventually just having a big party which is what I wanted to do from the beginning anyway. I can still wear my white dress and then be comfy at the party hopefully while holding a little one

Those dealing with MFI - any recommendations on frequency of BD'ing?

@dungeontrollmel Ah, I hadn't heard that about progesterone causing heavier periods. Now I have that to look forward to, ha!

@furbabymom2007 do you test out your trigger? I'm trying to decide if I think that's a good idea or not. A part of me also doesn't want my first test with a second line be due to a medication, ha.

@marley629 So glad you are feeling a sense of relief about where you and H are at now. That's really great that your venue was willing to work with you!

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) clomid + estrace + trigger + IUI + progesterone

How are things going? Good! I just had my follicle scan this morning and had three that are rearin' to go. I'll do my trigger shot tonight and go in Wednesday morning for the IUI. I'm surprised by how nervous I'm feeling; I'm excited but also know that I need to keep my optimism at bay to protect myself.

Any questions? I'm feeling a little apprehensive about the shot...any advice to a newbie?

Diagnosis (If you've been): Non-Insulin Resistant PCOS

Cycle/CD: 12/9 CD 24

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) It was our last round of Letrozole and IUI

How are things going? There's a reason my clinic tells you not to test until your beta. I tested yesterday at 10dpiui and got the faintest, but clearly there, of lines on a Walmart cheapy. Tested this am on a FRER with FMU, BFN. Tested again after a 3+ hour hold with two more cheapies, BFN's. Not sure what to make of it, but I definitely will not be testing again until my beta. All hope is lost. I'm at the point where I'm just like....what the fuck? Why? Seriously, why us? I wish we had the funds to move straight to IVF.

Diagnosis: unexplained secondary infertility

cycle/cycle day: 11/12

status: WTO

What are you doing this cycle? Clomid 2-6, iui on O which will probably be in two days. I am going in for a scan tomorrow. Then progesterone from 1dpiui until I get my period.

How are things going? Fine. I go back and forth between feeling hopeful and feeling like it is never going to happen. The beginning of my cycle leading up to fertile week is the easiest for me bc there is really nothing I can be doing so I don't think about it as much.

GTKY: hm that's a tough one. I pick sienna Miller just because I think she's the most gorgeous person ever even though she looks absolutely nothing like me haha.

@DungeonTrollMel - I do 600mg of progesterone starting 1dpo and it has never affected my periods. I even still get my period right on time despite being on the progesterone. I wouldn't worry about having a lighter period since everyone responds to all these hormones differently.

@felix08 I teated out the trigger the first time around but haven't since. And for what it's worth, the second line was gone by about 6 or 7 days after the trigger shot for me

also, I used the same video that @beary67 used. It's super easy. I recomeneded doing it yourself. The only time it hurt was the first time because I had DH do it and we were moving relative to each other. When it's in your own hand it's easier to keep the needle still.

I also figure that if there was any real risk to messing up the trigger and causing harm to myself then having inexperienced people do their own shots would not be the norm. I think the worst thing I could do was drop the needle and somehow spill all the medication lol

Diagnosis (If you've been): 2 blocked tubes

Cycle/CD: 16/5

Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): WTO

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) Well, just had my HSG and it was discovered that I have 2 blocked tubes. Left tube is completely blocked, and right has a block, but isn't as blocked as the left. The Dr. said that the chances of us having a baby ever, is though IVF- which we can't afford so won't be doing.

How are things going? Not good. I'm still holding onto the fact that I did have a BFP last year that ended in a mc so I know it is not completely impossible, although close to it.

I always wanted to do special needs adoption, so I think that will be our next step. I think this will be my last day on this board. I wish you all the best of luck and truly hope for good news for each of you!

Diagnosis (If you've been): looks like secondary infertility

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) We'll be oot during fertile week so no treatments.

How are things going? I'm doing pretty good. Maybe it's vacation in a week that makes me feel not so sad. I'm disappointed that 2 monitored iui's with triggers did not work for us (and one unmonitored no trigger iui). My RE said I should be an "easy fix" back in May and that's not proving to be true. My DH is convinced something happened with the m/c or the d&c last July b/c that is when all my difficulties started. It truly happened like a flip of the switch that now I suddenly can't get pg, to think there's no coincidence. But I've had all the stuff done and things look ok in there so I don't know what to think. I don't really hear about others who have been pg 6 times with 3 living kids who now can't get pg. It worries me a little.

How are things going? Nervous about the HSG and about Clomid

Any questions? My Dr wants to start me on Clomid this cycle, but I'm at cd6, no HSG, and no prescription for it yet. They wanted me to start on cd5, so I'm assuming I'll be waiting. I'm really freaking out about this too. She wants to just do blood test monitoring. Based on this board, I'm terrified something is going to go wrong if I don't have ultrasounds too. Am I being ridiculous?

@Felix08 I did my shots, DH would not have done well trying to give them to me. I think the apprehension the first time is the worst part. The shot itself isn't that bad. just take a deep breath and go for it.

It sucks when an RE says things that imply the journey will be quick and simple, mine did that too. *TW when I had my loss my RE wanted me to avoid a D&C if possible because it can cause scaring making it harder to get pregnant again. end TW**

@Everycol0r Yeah, my GYN has been really great so far about getting the testing ball rolling. She works hand in hand with a fertility clinic, in fact that's who's doing my HSG. I feel like she'd gladly ultrasounds to monitor if I asked. We're getting the referral started, I guess I just hate feeling like I'm in limbo out not doing enough if I wait on Clomid.

But better safe than sorry, right?

How are things going? Going pretty well. I have some hope for this cycle, but am also so ready to start treatment, and have been for a couple months. It took so long to jump through all of the hoops my RE requires before starting any kind of treatment, I just want to get going.

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) Took clomid for clomid challenge earlier this cycle and passed. HSG was clear and H's SA came back normal.

How are things going? I am not hopeful for this cycle since we missed most of FW. Next cycle I will take clomid again and they will do an IUI.

@persnickity It’s a bit late in your cycle to start clomid. Most women will take it CD 3-7 or at the latest 5-9. Do you have an apt with the RE yet?

@persnickity I think the general consensus around here is that an RE should be the one to prescribe/monitor clomid cycles. Could you wait until you get the RE referral? On top of the potential health risks, I wouldn't want to "waste" a Clomid cycle with an OB since you can only take it so many times in your lifetime.

@wabash15 Thanks! I think you're right--the thought of giving myself a shot is just kinda freaking me out. Shots normally don't bother me, but usually a professional is doing it, ha.

@yesouican Hopefully your follow-up appointment gives you some answers and a plan moving forward! Keep us updated.

Diagnosis (If you've been): MFI-low motility

Cycle/CD: 15/10

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) Letrozole + IUI, maybe Ovidrel trigger

How are things going? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ This is our second IUI, first with letrozole. I was an overachiever on Clomid, so hoping I respond well, but not as well. Clearly it didn't help anyway.

GTKY: Who would play you in a movie? Anne Hathaway. It's uncanny how many people have told me, independent of each other, that I look like her.

@persnickity I agree on asking to be monitored with u/s while on Clomid. With my first round of Clomid last cycle, I was well on my way to 5 large follies, in which case we would have had to cancel the IUI due to the larger risk of high order multiples. The RE doing the monitoring said no to even BDing at that point. But you wouldn't know that (or how thin your lining is, for that matter) without an u/s (or three in my case).

@Bababatty @felix08 @laurad75 Thanks for the extra information! Yeah, with needing to start on cd5, I'm not going to taking it this cycle. I did reach out and ask if she would do the ultrasounds or if I just need to wait to get in with a RE. Either way, I'm not starting it this cycle.

@laurad75 My visit summary from the GYN referred to it as a Clomid challenge. Is that different from just taking Clomid for a cycle?

Just got back from my CD3 scan. Ovaries look like I am a prime candidate for overstimulation risk so we are avoiding injectables and only upping my clomid to 75mg this cycle. I had 2 follicles on 59 last cycle but he can't promise I would again and doesn't want to risk 100mgs with how I looked today so 75 it is! He also encouraged us to move on to an IUI this month as well. He is really concerned that we don't burn our selves out emotionally and financially so we are taking they next step. He did say with our age group, the IUI will double our chances based on study numbers so that was actually very encouraging to hear. Thankfully timing works out perfect that it should also fall on the day I have a morning off from work.

Now to just survive the clomid headaches again

@hopeforababy I'm sorry about your news. I love that you have a desire to adopt a special needs child. You're going to make a huge impact in some lucky kid's life!

Diagnosis (If you've been): No diagnosis, but suspected cilia issues. Someone asked last week what testing we had done. I had a normal HSG, ultrasound, and blood tests.

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) Clomid + IUI

How are things going? Overall, things are going okay. I feel like I'm crushing the doctor's advice to act like I'm pregnant (after the IUI) by abstaining from alcohol and taking my pnv. This is making me feel healthy and good! (I'm known to drink a margarita or two). The problem is that I've gotten into my head and am doubting whether IUIs will ever work. This kind of thinking is not productive. And, it doesn't protect me because I still grieve when AF comes. Sigh.

@hopeforababy I read an article once that HSG are more likely to give a false positive of a blocked tube than hysteroscopy https://humrep.oxfordjournals.org/content/14/8/1923.full I don't know if a second opinion doing a scope instead is an option, but I just thought I would share that with you. Bless you for having a heart for special needs adoption, I wish you SO much success in the next stage of your journey.

How are things going? Blah.... I've been testing out my trigger, and it has been getting lighter everyday, but there was still a very,very faint line today... 12 days post trigger! Because it's getting fainter, and I'm already 11dpIUI, I'm getting pretty discouraged. I just hope AF arrives on time if she's coming, so I can drink wine this weekend at the retreat I'm going on.

How are things going? Since moving my bleeding has disappeared. I still have spotting pretty much every day since O but I don't need to wear a pad like I did before moving. It's really weird because the only changes since moving have been not drinking coffee every day and no more 3-4 hours of commuting.

What are you doing this cycle? Still testing and saving up for October, when we plan to do a medicated cycle.

How are things going? Pretty good, all things considered. I feel like things are finally moving and we are on the same page and have a plan.

Any questions? So my ultrasound today showed I have a retroflex uterus and my clinician mentioned that could impact IUI and I would have to do a catheter trial, does anyone have any experience with this?

@ReesaAnne16 I did use a trigger. I didn't test it. The past three cycles it had always been out of my system by 9dpo. But I kept getting (this cycle) faint positives on the cheap Walmart brand tests, but I've gotten BFN's on two FRER's. So I definitely feel out, and I think the Walmart brand is just crazy sensitive to any hcg. I did contact the RE's office yesterday to be like...wtf is going on? I wanted to go in for a beta before Thursday, which is my appointment, but they refused. They said Thursday was the earliest they could give me a blood test because any time before that could give them a false negative. She asked me if I had any concerning issues that would make me want to come in sooner, but since I am not in any pain (physically lol), I said no. So now the worst part is I have to wait until Thursday for them to tell me (again) that I'm not KU and that I can go off the progesterone. And the progesterone is what keeps AF at bay, and thus keeps me from starting the next cycle. I just want to move on. I'm sorry you're feeling out. I really hope that is not the case.

@LadyMillil I have an hour and a half drive to and from work, three hours round trip. And I wonder sometimes if it affects me physically at all. I can't see it manifesting itself physically, definitely mentally sometimes, but I wouldn't be surprised if it causes issues. I'm glad it seems your bleeding is calming down, and I really hope it's regulating.

Yes. The clomid challenge is for insurance to show that you have a good chance of responding to fertility treatments.
They will do base line blood work on CD 3, then you will take clomid CD 5-9, they do bw again on CD 10. They are looking for appropriate changes in your estrogen levels and FSH levels (I say appropriate bc I don't know exactly what they need to see - they will explain that to you).

When you take clomid as part of regular fertility treatment you will likely take it CD 2 or 3 through 6 or 7.
