Vacation questions

Where do you go with a 3month old?? And how do you manage taking care of a baby away from home?? We desperately need a vacation as I'm constantly cooped up In the house with my son but I'm terrified to travel with him. I just see it being a disaster!! I know ppl do it everyday. Where have you gone and how did it go?

Re: Vacation questions

  • My husband and I traveled with my son when he was 2 months old to Arizona and Texas (1 week) from San Diego. He did great!  Babies require a million things to bring on trips -- but we definitely over packed!  I was paranoid and wanted extra of everything. He slept most of the time in the car since we drove. I think it's easier to travel at this age then when they get closer to a year old because then they're awake more and have to be entertained. Lol.

  • ^agree.  Dh and I wanted to go on a trip but couldn't agree on where to go. Lol he wanted glamping and I wanted to go to RI to check out Newport and the beaches.  We settled on staying with family for three days and just hanging.
  • I went from Portland OR to Vancouver BC with Sam and had an absolute blast! We walked around the city. I took him to Stanley Park and we went on the mini train. I had the best time. Probably the hardest thing for me was eating, since it's just me and I don't feel comfortable taking Sam to a restaurant yet. But yeah, it was so much fun. Do it!!!
  • How do you do a beach with a baby? That was originally what we thought of its a 9hr drive. Flying just seems too difficult. But do you just set a tent up for the baby and maybe a fan? I have no clue..

Shade, water (to splash on them to help keep cool) and fan.  Also a big blanket so they don't get into the sand and eat it. Lol
  • For the beach: A friend of mine bought a small inflatable baby pool and dug a hole in the sand and put the pool in it. She then filled it with ocean water. If her baby didn't want to be in the ocean, she could be in the shade, playing in the pool. When she wasn't using it, an adult was usually was lounging in it.

For camping: Considering the cottage we stayed in had everything we really needed except food, clothes, and baby stuff...we thought we would be packing light. NOPE! Basically the way we packed was thinking about a typical day with Damien and what we used/needed at each point. I brought my pump and pump n save bags, all of our bottles and formula, lots of outfits (so we could be prepared for warm or cold and anytime he needed an outfit because he vomited), the pack n play (my parents just bought a Baby Bjorn Travel Crib Light for us to use on travels), tons of diapers, wipes, diaper cream, blah blah blah.

We will be flying down to Virginia for Thanksgiving to visit family and since I know we can always hit up a CVS, Target, whatever for anything we might need while there, we will definitely be traveling light. Since we will traveling internationally, we all have the Nexus pass, which allows us to bypass the security and customs lines for a shorter line. It can be used in some airports for just domestic traveling to bypass the long security as well. It will make air travel just a little bit easier.

  • We're flying to the beach with the kids in October. We won't have any baby items like bouncer/ swing ect. Only the pack and play. We will be holding her a lot! At the beach we are just going to keep her under an umbrella I don't plan on putting her in any ocean water I think that would be bad for sensitive skin. We will put her in the pool though. I'm kinda nervous but like you desperate to get out of the house!

  • We did Disney this weekend and it went so much better than I expected. We drove both ways during her nap times for the 2.5 hr drive. We brought her portable crib with us and tried to keep to her schedule as much as possible. She napped in her stroller and I carried her in her sling whenever she started getting fussy. It was a huge help that we travelled with 6 of her adult cousins so plenty of helping hands and she got passed around quite a bit. She actually enjoyed watching the fireworks and looking at the characters.
