Re: September Plus Size Mammas topics (edited)

  • @Gretchypoo we are the same size! I'm about a 22, mostly because of my thighs, though. I could swing a 20 if my thighs would cooperate. Same problem with my arms and paunch, if they'd cooperate I might be a size less. Let me know if you find anything good. I am probably going to order some pans from Kohls in the next few weeks. My mom saw some maternity tops at Target for me. They're not totally my style, but I appreciate free clothes!

  • @purplewriter, I will need to look up the style, but I think mine were boot cut, definitely not a skinny style, and I thought they were generous in the thighs.   I carry all my weight between boobs and knees, so I thought they were great.  I am going to have to look for more if a skinny style, I like to tuck my pants into my boots in the winter, and these are too wide.

  • @Partyof6? Thanks! I usually tuck my pants in too, but I just fold them over because I tend to go for boot cut styles the most.
  • I'm excited to report my Old Navy jeans fit great. They're almost a bit loose but I'm sure as things grow that'll change. I also got a really cute chambray dress that's a little long now but I think will look cute with a bump: https://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=93289&vid=1&pid=286103002

And I also got this dress one size up and it's really cute and will work really well for a maternity dress if anyone's interested: https://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=1028858&vid=8&pid=402099042

  • Any STMs on here do baby wearing? I am interesting in the Moby but omg it looks so hot!!! Thoughts?
  • @Gretchypoo I just answered this in the stm thread. I have had moby for both kids but honestly found it a bit of a hassle. You learn to wrap it pretty easily but I preferred other things for baby wearing. Boba is pretty awesome and I preferred over ergo. The ergo belt was a bit small for me imo and dug in. The boba belt was bigger. Also Tula. My Tula is my love. When they are new you need the insert for them as well and some people don't want to make the investment in a Tula. But my thoughts. A good ergonomic carrier like boba/ergo are like $125 and the Tula is $149. So not that much more.
Tula has plenty of room for adjustment. Like I said before around my belly I'm about a 20 and I still have like a ton of inches left on my band that I could expand so definitely good for plus size mamas.
I also used the infantino Mei tei and that was in between the wrapping and buckle carrier. And a cheap alternative if you just want to try baby wearing out.
Also- look into if you have a local baby wearing chapter as they are normal great and you can go to a meeting even before baby so they can kind of show you different carriers. And explain Etc.
Sorry, I know this is a little long and rambly and super full of grammatical errors.

  • @lct2008 that is super helpful, thank you!!
  • @Gretchypoo I have a Baby KTan that I found so much easier to use than the Moby. I felt that I could never get the Moby tight enough. I found the only drawback with the KTan was that it was sized.

I also have a ringsling and a Beco. I loved all the carriers for different stages.

  •   I almost feel like she's just assuming I'll fail because I'm overweight.  I'm just wondering when others took the test and do you think it's worth it to do it early and possibly have to do it again?

My sister's dr told her flat out that she "probably has GD" simply bc of her weight.  She didn't. Meanwhile my sister in law is a skinny little thing and she DOES have it! (yes we are all 3 pregnant). I did an early test too bc of my weight, I don't have it either. Need another one at the regular time, 28 weeks I think.

I'm not much of a "check in" type person but I definitely have questions/concerns/comments that are plus size pregnancy specific. I have been holding back though bc of the format, I admit. I just felt like things I want to discuss weren't part of the 4 questions so I didn't contribute.

Clothes- I have been on a hunt. I bought some maternity sweatpants at Macys plus 2 sweaters.  I have 2 dresses (old navy and target), and 2 black leggings. I have been rotating these things. I am really comfortable in the leggings/dresses so I am gonna look for a few more and hopefully I will be set for the winter.  Also praying my coat fits from last year.

So who else looks extra fat instead of pregnant?????
  • @Eveinshock I feel like I look SO fat instead of pregnant! My cousin's wedding was Saturday night and I felt like I just looked like a blimp. I lamented that I felt like I couldn't get any more pregnant (because I feel HUGE) and they were both like "Oh my gosh you're barely even showing! You have SO much more to go!" ...So do I just normally look this fat?!?! Haha

Then all of the unsolicited groping! OMG! I have three aunts, plus my brothers, mother, and random people (including MEN) who would just come up from behind and grab me or side swipe me and just totally attack my stomach. Since I basically feel fat, look fat, and was already self-conscious of my weight, it's so weird to me that it just seems like they're grabbing my fat stomach. Do they wanna touch my thighs and butt too? Those are also HUGE! Do they think they're just going to randomly feel the baby move? Highly unlikely!

  • Hi All,

I can't wait till the bump really pops and I look more pregnant than fat! I'm already at my highest weight ever!  I talked to the doctor and she recommended a nutritionist, which I will try.. I've been also trying to get my walking in and I always drink a ton of water. I've  been struggling  with maternity clothes myself but had some success at motherhood maternity and kohls on-line.  I wasn't  too happy with the quality of pink blush maternity..

I feel your pain. I haven't had too many gropers but whoever gropes is feeling soft belly squish not the traditional hard baby belly they're probably expecting!

It's funny bc when I look at myself I totally see a huge baby belly that protrudes past my boobs. It's very clear I am pregnant (to myself) bc I know what my body looked like before and my body type is not big belly.  But I know that to the world I just look like the type of chunky with a fat stomach.

Anyone have underwear recommendations? I feel like everything sits right in the middle and accentuates the B belly.
  • @Eveinshock I definitely feel extra fat. I keep telling my husband I hate that I don't look pregnant, I just look lumpy.  I'd love to share in the HDBD thread since everyone has such cute bumps but I don't really have the courage to right now even though I know no one would say anything negative.

  • Hello ladies, I am a lurker from march 2017 ... I'm due march 5 but I feel like there is a february aquarian inside me. This monthly plus size conversation alone makes me want to hang out with you all some more.

I read about "B" bumps vs "D" bumps on the plus size pregnancy website that was mentioned earlier. Apparently not everyone has a dome shaped belly... I never knew that. They went into different bump shapers (I'm a FTM and don't know all the preggo lingo yet) that can minimize the crease between B bellies.

  • @MamaD233 You are more than welcome here, anytime!

  • @CurlyCupcake21 I feel the same way about the HDBD. I don't feel like it looks like enough of a bump.
  • @MamaD233 I totally second it--you're more than welcome here anytime!!

    This.
  • Maybe we should just put our bump pictures here? Or is that too antisocial?
  • I definitely need to buy maternity underwear. I get super bloated in the evening and it hurts. Maybe a different cut and size would be good.
  • I gave in and bought panties and sports bras up a size! So much comfier

I've been thinking this too. But everything is uncomfortable, hot and sweaty. I strip down as often as possible nowadays!
  • Welcome @MamaD233!  You can hang here anytime.   I didn't realize that about bump shapes but it makes sense.  This is my fourth baby, and I am very short waisted.   My bump came out early (I actually was accused of faking at 9 weeks by a non regular, lol) and I just said to my husband yesterday I don't know where we go from here.   I already feel huge and I am only halfway there.

As for underwear, I can post what I have, but I basically sized up and got something with a wider band, and it is so much more comfortable.  My old ones just rolled down under my belly.  And yes, I ordered them on Amazon, lol.

  • Here's the B Belly article - https://plussizebirth.com/whats-a-b-belly/

As for panties, most of mine seem to be OK for now - I'm 17+3 and just able to really feel the bump beneath the roll. I lost about 50 lbs early this year so only these hanes boyshorts are getting snug again - I just got comfortably into them in June, about two weeks before my BFP. At least I didn't toss all my upsize clothes -- they will be resurrected as maternity wear!
  • I had no idea there were different shape bumps.  Interesting.  But I still want the cute D shaped bump, haha.  I don't even know if I have a B shape since I'm pretty different from the picture.  I have a weird indent by my belly button that's always been there even before being pregnant.

On the topic of underwear, I think I may have to go a size up soon.  Unless I'm being sexy I like to have granny undies that go up to my belly button (and thus trying to conceal the indent).  Now they're riding lower and I feel like they're making a second indent.  I don't even know what letter that would be.

Yep I lurked more these post because of the format to, I like this format better of just typing in questions, thoughts, etc...

I hate how Doctors judge people off their BMI, BMI has me at obese. And that was even when I was a scholarship ski racer working out all the time... bah... And then they take my heart rate and go wow that is good do you work out a lot. Bah doctors, just did a 10k labor day weekend but lets here how unhealthy I am.

I am worrying about jacket too, infact I will be up at my parents house which is right next to Keystone Ski Resort Colorado. So I need a jacket that will deal with real snowy cold conditions and I will probably need ski pants. Not sure if I will be able to find them.

  • Have any of you tried a belly band or maternity support belt? I really don't know too much about them, but maybe it will help with back pain. The main reason I'm asking is because I was informed yesterday that I have a hernia.

I did and it kept rolling up, maybe I did not buy the right size but it was the most annoying thing all day, mine ended up in the trash.

  • Haha oh man maybe it isn't worth it! @skiingstark, I know what you mean with the BMI crap. Mine kept making this huge deal yesterday out of the fact that I'm in the "morbidly obese" category. I seriously wanted to punch her in the face. Yet, my heart rate and blood pressure are always great and so far no GD or anything either. Basically, I'm (luckily) pretty damn healthy despite my stupid BMI status. They really dont seem to consider that some people just have bigger bones/more muscle mass as well; this is me and always was even when I was in great shape and weighed way less than what I do now.

I'm nowhere near as physically active as I've read you've said you are, but I walk literally everywhere all the time everyday. And no I'm not thrilled about my current weight/appearance, but there is no way in hell anyone is looking at me and thinking omg that woman is obese! Overweight, sure. But obese, really? lol give me a frigin break.

Good luck with finding a good jacket and ski pants!

Only the good doctors know not to look only at the BMI when evaluating a patient.  It's so annoying how newer generations of physicians have become so text book definition dependent. They forget to think outside the box and try to put the patients in these pre-existing categories.

@jab3 I don't have experience with the belts. But did your doctor say anything to help you with the hernia? I know you mentioned the doctor will "address it later," but she/he still should have given you pointers about ways to prevent it from getting worse.

  • @Jab3 I'm in the same boat -- "Morbidly Obese" but I've got great labs and my BP is always normal. It only gets high if I'm really sick or dehydrated. I've been "obese" my whole life but I'm also 5'2" and I have an ass soooo...... guess who doesn't give a flying fart in space?

I was "obese" even when I was in cross country and running 3+ miles everyday.

Bc of my BMI I had to get the GD test at my last appointment but it came back abnormal. I'm getting re-tested on Friday. I think I just messed up the lab (didn't fast long enough, didn't follow the eating rules bc I forgot I was getting the test done.) So I think I'm okay. If I'm not, I'll live and baby will be as healthy as possible!
  • @AfKash, no she just said I would need surgery after I have the baby. She just rushed through everything.

@Gretchypoo, good luck on Friday, I'll be getting mine done then too! I'll be thinking of you. They made me fast to take the test with my last 2 kids/same OB, but with this one they said I don't need to. Wtf? lol

  • I know right? I'm really disappointed in this OB.
