I've been so cranky this week...I've had a bitch, tw, and now WTF and could probably go on...
WTF bosses. When do you plan to tell my clients I'm not returning to this consulting engagement after my maternity leave? We've identified my replacement and my client needs to approve her, but they think they are approving someone for 3 months, not permanently! Don't you think they'd approach a permanent replacement a little differently? But that's cool, you're only here sporadically so you're not stuck lying to their faces or awkwardly changing topics when they mention things happening "after [I] get back."
WTF body. I've been feeling like I'm about to get sick for weeks....the symptoms include constant sneezing, sore throat, and ear ache. Last night I was also feeling sick to my stomach. But I'm not really feeling bad enough to call in sick to work, so I'm here not being productive at all.
WTF. My sister in law texts me out of the blue this morning to inform me that her husband can't pronounce Eaton and wanted to call him "Eatie" or Eve. She says she's open to my suggestions for her husband to call him something else.
Hey, how about you call my son by his given name or nothing at all? I don't do stupid nicknames. If I wanted to call him something different, I would have named him something different.
WTF work! Servers are down, I have 5 million things on my plate and my team lead is pushing the work I need him to do back on me. Then he complains he hasn't had a moment's peace since he got in this morning. NEITHER HAVE I AND I'VE BEEN ON SINCE 8 AND YOU WALKED IN AT 8:40! I already told my boss I needed a break to grab food, which he got annoyed about, but f him (I get a 10 minute morning break I'm encouraged to work through, but god dammit I needed to eat something). Now I'm on a client meeting and the client wants to change our scripting, AGAIN, with only a few weeks left in the cycle. We're trying to encourage them to wait but they're not having it. Great, need to retrain agents now. It's not even noon and I've had a full day already...
Married 4/12/13 TTC since 6/13 Diagnosed w/ PCOS 4/9/15 - R/E recommended lifestyle change BFP 4/10/16 - DS born 12/16/2016 SURPRISE! BFP 3/8/18
WTF work. We started a new process a few weeks ago and it doesn't work. I've brought up concerns several times and they have never been addressed.
So we have our first full out fail with the new process this morning. Huge customer, missed a really important deadline. When I asked what the recovery plan was so I can communicate with our customer the guy in charge of the new process jumped down my throat and was incredibly rude. Also, doesn't have a plan.
So I've been sitting in my office for the rest of the morning bumping and indexing my email. Only 11 more weeks of maternity leave...
WTF Morning Sickness. I mean I know this is old news but I don't even remember what it's like to not wake up and rush to the bathroom and then feel like crap all day. and WTF everyone asking me if I'm still sick every day... if it changes I will be shouting it to the world... you will know.
WTF, OB. How dare you refuse to induce me 15 weeks early. I told you I'm DONE being pregnant.
I'm both laughing and crying (because I have SO much further to go) at this. With DD, from like 37 weeks on, at every midwife appt, I was like, "what do I have to eat, drink, inject, do to get this thing out of me??!" Needless to say that, among other strategies, I paid for a full month at the gym just for that last week of pregnancy. I was going to create an inhospitable environment and elliptical this thing out of me, if it was the last thing I did.
Multiple WTFs today. 1) WTF to the return of morning sickness. This is bullshit. 2) WTF to my 15 minute commute taking over an hour because EVERY SINGLE ROUTE TO WORK HAS CONSTRUCTION. I swear there is zero communication between these planning committees. That or they are just pure evil. 3) WTF to my hiring teams. Really? REALLY? We've been planning career fairs for almost 4 months and you're telling me 3 business days before our biggest event that you can no longer attend. It's cool, we're out thousands of dollars and I have no available replacements. 4) WTF to my boss twiddling her thumbs and not making any hiring decisions on my replacement. We've already lost a few candidates because of the ridiculous delay. You do realize you're screwing yourself over, right?
I just gave an hour long complicated technical presentation to a group of technical folks. There's one old guy in there that needs to retire and he just is constantly looking to poke holes in things and interrupts CONSTANTLY. It's really hard to keep your train of thought when someone is doing that. It just felt really rude and I want to go give him a piece of my mind but I'm not going to because I don't actually want to deal with him and I think he's just a few months out from retirement. He'll probably be gone by the time I'm back from maternity leave and I don't need to work with him until then. But yea. Really really rude. I did a fine job anyway.
@ajstevenson My company hasn't done anything to fill my position during maternity leave either. The only other person that did the same job I do quit 3 months ago and they haven't tried to fill that position. And the training is usually about 6 months before someone is really proficient at this job. They are going to be screwed.
Thought about editing my first one but this one deserves a special place holder.
I have a small flock of chickens (6 hens). When we got them we decided to do a pre-fab co-op that fit up to 6 adult chickens plus add on to the run area so they would have more room.
Today I get a notice on my door saying that I'm being investigated because a neighbor complained that they don't have a shelter, that they're sitting in the sun and that they have no water.
We feed and water our chickens 3 times every day and completely clean out both the meal feeder and the water feeder. They also get daily treats of whatever fruit and vegetables we have. Usually greens, melon, berries and cukes. Never anything that has gone bad because I don't want them to get sick.
The coop is enclosed and ventilated.
Half the run is shaded/covered.
I check my hens every week to make sure they don't have any viruses/fungus. And they're given antibiotics. I'm pretty sure this is more than what most people do with their small flocks.
WTF work?! I think it was my WTF last week as well, but you need to replace my counterpart that was promoted in May. I am currently doing the job of 2 engineers and feel like I'm barely keeping the lights on for the programs I'm responsible for. The position has been posted, and I have had people reach out to me for details but no interviews yet. How in the hell do you expect to hire someone when you're not even interviewing! I'm in the office until thanksgiving. No later (EDD 12/6). And I'm not looking back for one second. Good luck surviving when I won't have the chance to train anyone in...not to mention I've been in role almost 3 years and literally learn something new every day. Gah.
I slept 4 hours last night and I can't think. And the tofu from the salad bar that I put in my salad is frozen. Gross. I'm with you @SarahF8611. Also, @Austenista - Eve is totally a legit NN for Eaton - how come you didn't think of that? If it were me, I'd just pronounce the name slowly and repeatedly the next time I saw them, like you're teaching a small child, and I bet BIL will magically pick up on it.
WTF. Why is it so hard to find reliable contractors? Just had yet another one reschedule his estimate appointment that was supposed to happen this afternoon. I stayed home from work and DH requested to leave early so we could both be here. SO ANNOYED. All the delays are making it less and less likely that we are going to have a nursery ready for this baby by December 1.
@ajstevenson This is one of my biggest worries and pet peeves as a livestock farmer. People who don't understand what animals really need and make unnecessary judgments that can really do damage to the animal owner. It sounds like you're taking awesome care of your ladies, but some people somehow think animals need air conditioning or jackets in winter or feather beds. Not to mention that there are plenty of people legitimately abusing animals, from large industrial farms to individual owners, and complaining about people like you just wastes time and money that could go towards actually solving something. Good luck going forward - I'm sure if someone comes to do an inspection they'll see that your chickens are fine.
/rant over/
My WTF is either the world for being unfair, or maybe just my ridiculous hormones for making it seem that way.
@penelope4612 not to mention Eve is the name of their step-mother's grand daughter. *eye roll*
I asked my own sister if it was as rude as I was taking it, and she confirmed it was. Whatever. I'll probably do exactly that, and just keep incessantly correcting them anytime they see fit to call him anything else. We live in the south, if you can ask someone if they're done eatin' you can pronounce my child's name. Not to mention I grew up in the foothills of Appalachian Georgia with tons of Eaton relatives. No one ever had a hard time pronouncing that name then. If mountain folks can pronounce something and you can't? Good grief. My grandfather calls Chicago "Chicargo" and Memphis "Mem-flis" and he can say Eaton just fine.
My real WTF is at my nurse practitioner today. I had a last min app because of my BH over the weekend. So she calls for a US to check cervix length. It's shorter, but nothing they can do and nothing I can do different. So WTF did you send me for monitoring in L&D?!?!? I have been here for 2 hrs, and the doc just laughed, ordered me lunch & the steroid shots and is sending me home.

WTF to restaurants that allow people to solicit you while you are eating.
This isn't the first time this has happened, but at a different restaurant. I sit down, I'm eating my lunch, and suddenly this woman comes up to me and says that the restaurant is sponsoring her gym and day spa, and she wants me to have a free pass...oh, here's a schedule...oh, would you like to sign up for the giveaway....the trainers are so nice...
Bitch I'm trying to fucking eat! I'm already waddling, and here you are telling me to go the gym and making me feel like shit GET OUT OF MAI FACE. I kept saying "No thank you" but she wasn't getting the hint---I stopped her and was like, "Do you enjoy people interrupting you when you are eating?"
She got the hint finally, but whoever thought it was a great idea to solicit people in restaurants is an asshole. Dishonor on you, dishonor on your cow, dishonor on your whole family.
My WTF kind of goes along with my TW Tuesday frustration. When my OB's office called to tell me that I failed my Glucose test with flying colors and was diagnosed with GD they didn't give me much information. At all. I'm a "more is more" kind of person in regards to necessary information. All the nurse told me was that I needed to come in to get a prescription for a meter, lancets and testing strips. I asked if someone would be there to show me how to use it (since I have never had GD during my other pregnancies and I've never had to deal with this complication before) she said no but the pharmacist would show me.
Okay. So no big deal there. But what I'm kind of frustrated about is that she wants me to start testing right away but my diabetes class isn't until next Wednesday and whenever I would ask a follow up question she said that would be addressed NEXT Wednesday. She gave me no parameters or range in which my blood sugar reads should fall, she gave me no dietary advice nor pointed me to a website to gain factual medical based information in order to keep those reads in that range.
So I did what most other people would do and Dr. Google'd it and holy smokes Dr. Google can scare the pants off of you! I guess I'm just like WTF with giving me a diagnosis that can be severe if not taken care of but giving me no other pertinent information to help govern my behavior for another week!
@phoebecar try to stay under 140 after meals and fasting around 95. Sugars are best for information 1 hr after each meal. Keep a food journal so you can notice trends, and try to stay away from simple sugars: potatoes, white breads, white rice, and most 'feel good comfort foods'. At your class they should use the weeks worth of personal data to help you determine a personalized plan. Until they have a base line of what is causing spikes/lows and how bad your numbers regularly are, there isn't much they actually can do to help.

Also to test your sugars: clean your finger - either wash hands or use alcohol wipe- then put a new lancet into poker, put a new strip into machine, wait until machine is ready, poke finger:arm depending on type of machine, wipe off first drop of blood, squeeze out another and put the sample area into drop of blood. It will typically beep when it has enough blood to read.

@kate08young you have been a wealth of information of the past two days! Thank you so very much! My doctor has me testing 2 hours after every meal and Dr. Google said anything under 120 is ideal. Does that sound about right to you? My fasting number was slightly higher than 95 this morning but not by much!
thanks again so much! This diagnosis has thrown me for a bit of a loop. Oh well, it is what it is!!
@phoebecar Anytime. I just passed my 1 hr, but because I am ~285lbs I was automatically referred to a dietician/endocrinologist. So I have lots of practice from the last 20 weeks. Plus my aunt has type 1, and we all learned how to take care of her.
120 is a good number to shoot for, and depending on doc anything over 140 regularly means insulin. Hopefully you can manage with just diet.

WTF sleep. I woke up at 4am and couldn't go back to sleep. Luckily I was able to go to work early and get a lot done so that was a plus but I know this is the beginning of the insomnia.

@dmontgo Thta would drive me nuts! Like enough I might not go back to that place. Unless the food was really good...
My WTF is paid parking at my new OB. I know it's not totally abnormal but I think the whole concept of paying to park to get medical care is stupid. We never have cash, so now I'll have to start going to the ATM to get cash since it's going to be $4 each visit. I think if you actually see a doctor you should get a voucher or something. Want to screw over visitors? Fine, they're choosing to come. But patients HAVE to go see their doctors. Plenty of them have enough financial struggles on top of health concerns. You don't have to bleed them dry.
@tinattt23 AMEN! When DS was in the NICU for a month it was $10/day to park. Really? His hospital bill was in the hundreds of thousands AND I'm paying to park. Go straight to hell.
@DiFazette It's crazy! They really can't just roll that cost into all the other crap me/my insurance is paying for?!?! I told FI I should park across the street at the mall out of principle.
@tinattt23 I totally agree! Unfortunately I live in a city where there are few free lots, so paying to park is just to be expected. My OB's private office is out of a major hospital, so we always have to pay for parking. But it really is absurd. At least with this parking deck, there's a $6 cap on fees. At the other hospital across town, you might have to pay $12 if you're there for 6-8 hours. Crazy! It's just unethical.
WTF to the technician who drew my blood for my glucose test. I have easily visible veins and have no issues with needles but this lady had clearly been given some terrible training. She did a weird jerk when she put the needle into my arm (like someone told her, "you have to do it fast so it doesn't hurt as much") and over shot my vein and then proceeded to dig around in my arm until she finally got the needle lined up. Meanwhile her phone starts going off and it's this ear splitting obnoxious ring tone and she doesn't even say sorry she just lets it ring until she's done butchering my arm and then she proceeds to immediately pull out her phone and start texting as she's writing my info on the blood samples. I just hope I pass this test because I'm really not looking forward to another blood draw with this lady.
@aframe77 whaaaa????? I would have asked her if she would like me to come back at a more convenient time or if she needed me to step out of the room for some privacy. And I would have said it in a completely snarky manner. I thought it was a common courtesy to turn your ringer off/vibrate only while at work.
@aframe77 WHAT?! Was this in your OBs office? Not that that really matters. I'd let someone know. My DH is a medical administrator for a dialysis clinic, he would want to know if one of his staff was a) butchering patients and b) using their cell phone on the floor. A means the person needs more training and B means the person likely isn't following the rules and needs to be reminded/reprimanded. Regardless, neither is acceptable. Sorry you had to endure that!
