Twatwaffle Tuesday 9/6

Re: Twatwaffle Tuesday 9/6

  • My TW today is one of the suppliers I work with for my job. He keeps using my last name instead of my first in emails to me and he didn't use to so this is a new development and I'm not sure what changed. Since I took DH's last name both my first and last name could be first names. I get it's a bit confusing so I usually give people e-mailing me for the first time a pass but I've known this guy since before I changed my last name, we've met in person several times, and I sign all my e-mails to him with just my first name so all he has to do is look at the last e-mail and see which name I go by... It doesn't take long to just double check someone's name either to make sure it's the right one or spelling, so when you don't it comes off as lazy and borderline rude to me.

Is it bad if DH is my TW because he didn't bring me cookies? He got off work early today and said he was taking our boys to Subway for lunch. I told him if he was feeling nice, he could bring me cookies. He didn't bring cookies. Just bring the pregnant lady some cookies, man!
Hey, cookies are a big deal! Obviously he should've gotten you cookies!!!

I was sitting here feeling bad that my TW would be my husband too. I asked him to pick up toilet paper at the store and don't forget to get the mega roll size. Well, he got those mini little double rolls, which aren't double of anything. He says, "isn't that the same thing?" Um, no.
If I wasn't using the bathroom a million times a day, I wouldn't care so much. But it still feels petty that this is my biggest problem today!

  • @marriedhamstermom That is super weird, because if you've worked together that long, he shouldn't be confused.

@BlondePeanut I'm sorry to hear about your husband's back. I hope he feels better as quickly as possible!

@FreshBakedBrownies My TP problem is the opposite of yours, and makes Amazon my TW today. I know it's totally a first world problem, but it's annoying.

I use subscribe and save religiously, and have gotten the exact same TP delivered for two years now. They decided with the last delivery to substitute my normal TP with an "equivalent alternative" which has these mondo-sized rolls that won't even fit on my TP holder without scraping the sides. And I have one of those towers to hold spare rolls... they won't even fit in it!
Rainbow baby Dean is due 2/17/17!
  • @BlondePeanut I'm so sorry to hear about your husband!! I hope he can get some relief soon!

  • The TW for me right now is my air conditioning. My husband tried installing a new thermostat today and it was blowing warm air. So he changes it back to the old one and now the A/C won't turn on at all. Not to mention it's 95 degrees here. I'm already sweating and I've been home less than 30 minutes! I can't call my husband the TW because he went out of his way to install the new one - even if he did mess things up....

My TW is the person who decided to announce during the all-staff meeting, while intro-ing returning faculty, that I would only be with them for half the year because I'm going on mat leave at Xmas. I specifically chose one of my bump concealing tops for the occasion, but that's out the window.

I'm in a really awkward position with this teaching contract, where it was offered to me literally a week before the stick turned pink, after I had been away for a year and not expecting a position to come available for me until the Sept 2017 school year. I was hoping to avoid highlighting for the ENTIRE staff that I was hired and immediately told them I was knocked up. I had a good convo with the academic directors about it, and they're being super understanding, but I can't talk to every random Judgey McJudgerson about the situation, so they're all just judging the pants off me right now. Now I feel like I have to take out an ad in the school paper to explain the deal, or put up with people giving me stank face all term.
  • My TW is my husband right now, at this second. I love him tons, but as he walked out the door to work tonight, he said "oh I know this is bad timing, but that box in the small cooler needs put in the freezer" so I said ok. When I opened the small cooler, that has been sitting on the floor since Sunday night when we got home, it had some terrible disgusting bait fish in it that he caught while on vacaction. IT'S BEEN SITTING ROOM TEMPERATURE SINCE SUNDAY!!!!! It stinks so bad I started gagging continuously and felt my food making its way back up... then immediately after that, I decided to go sit down and watch a little TV before bed and WTF our remote is missing. My husband was the last one to have it, and he never ever puts it where it goes. I looked under the couch, in the cushions, behind the couch, I'm out. And the remote is missing. Not cool husband, I'm grumpy haven't you heard?!?

  • My TW gets to be me.   My husband left this morning for a work trip.  I realized tonight that I am pretty sure my wallet is in his car.   At the airport.   Almost an hour away.   I had his car for work last night and I think it fell out of my bag.  My parents are still in Florida, which stinks, because I am pretty sure they are the only people who might be willing to drive me up there to get it.  My husband comes home Thursday, late, so I think I am okay until then, just feeling sorry for myself and stupid.

Oh no!! Hopefully you don't need it before he gets back, but you reminded me...

I guess I could TW myself for my husband because while we were packing up on Sunday to come home, I grabbed a pair of my husbands shorts and threw them in the wash... when I switched laundry and they came out of the dryer, I saw a bunch (a whole bunch) of crumbled papers. After getting the clothes out, what was left in the dryer was my husbands wallet!! Oops!! I didn't mean to but he was obviously and understandably pissed. And to make it worse, we just realized today that I accidently washed and destroyed $100 in checks that he hadn't taken to the bank and deposited :(

  • @kswiger06 ouch! Your TW sucks with the list checks! Anyway to get them re-written?

  • @WinchesterGirl any chance you're near the north shore Chicago area? I would trade you those mondo-size rolls for these mini rolls in a heartbeat! I've changed the roll twice already today! :(

Again, maybe not the worst problem considering lost checks, stinky room temperature bait, wallets left in cars in airports, fancy dresses that won't fit anymore, etc.

  • My body is my TW.
I had a dress really for a military ball this weekend, tried it on a couple weeks ago and was set.
Tried it on today and I can't zip the fucker up. Like, it won't zip up because my tits and/or my rib cage are now too big.
    Fuckity fuck.
Oh no! I have a wedding next thursday that i bought a dress specifically for & now im worried that it wont fit even tho i got the next size up  as i got it a month ago. Will have to go home & try it this evening

@AfKash my husband has his commercial wildlife nuisance removal license and the checks were made out to the business name. He had only got his license to legally trap groundhogs and raccoons eating our garden but apparently your phone number gets posted publicly and the game warden hands it out. So my husband keeps getting calls for trapping these animals at other people's houses. He figured he'd do a few jobs to get some extra money, but a couple people made the checks out to the business. We have to open a business checking account, and the process for that has been time consuming because you have to wait for the IRS to mail you a special letter. We were waiting on that letter, went on vacation, and I accidently washed the wallet... I have no clue what to do about the checks because it looks terribly unprofessional, and these people are going to be waiting for us to deposit checks from them we no longer have.... which all of this is why my husband is understandably sore about the situaion. It was a big mistake for my part.

I started my new job Sept 1. And that was after pushing my start date back a month. In Germany, I would be legally entitled to 6 weeks of pre-maternity leave and 3 years of mat leave. Pre-mat leave would theoretically start Jan 7, so a whole 4 months into my job.

...wanna guess how that revelation would go over with HR? I haven't told them I'm pregnant yet and am super thankful I'm not showing (or, better said, that the blump from 1st tri has graciously gone away). The plan is to tell HR in the 1st week of Oct, once we get our organ screening done, and use that as a reason for not mentioning it before.
Also hoping to have an awesome project plan in place by then that will outline how the project will progress in my absence (with an added bonus of me NOT taking 3 years off, but only 3 months and then returning PT until LO turns 1yr).

All that to say, we can wear flowy tops together. At least until Oct.

And did you have a one-on-one talk with the blabby staff person? Not ok to announce like that.

@FreshBakedBrownies Sorry, I'm in Florida! And I agree, ours is trivial compared to the others!

@kswiger06 That sucks about the business checks. We had a similar situation waiting for IRS paperwork for a former business of ours. I know it's too little too late, but we set up a clip on the side of the fridge and all the checks collected there until the paper came in. DH is not the best with paperwork and I was worried they would all get lost. You might try it for any new ones that come in at least? :disappointed:

No, it wasn't just any staff person, it was the head of the entire school. The cat is out of the bag, so I'm just going to let it go, unfortunately.

It sounds like you've got a great plan in place, and I'm sure HR will be impressed with your willingness to return to work far earlier than you need to. I was actually surprised at how happy for me the administrators I talked to were, so you may be pleasantly surprised. Babies do tend to bring out the best in everyone...
  • @WinchesterGirl that's a good idea!! Normally checks or $ go directly to me to deposit so it's not usually a concern, but he had these ones just because of setting up that account. It was just unfortunate timing for those checks I suppose.

  • My employee tested positive for TB during routine testing for an internship hes doing and was told he was just an asymptomatic carrier. Guess who's been out for two days and is now at the doctor and then getting a chest x-ray for TB.

I of course coincidentally woke up with a cough, difficulty breathing, and swollen lymph nodes. Most likely the result of allergies but I now have a low grade fever so mentally I've already diagnosed myself.

This kid and myself are definitely twat waffling today.
  • Ahh @cantalopes24 that's so scary! Fingers crossed it is allergies and you feel better soon!

  • @MrsLittleMac - At least he/she looks sad about it?
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • Yeah, I can't be entirely mad at her. Usually either H or I are home at any given time but sometimes our work days line up and we have to be gone for a few hours. She generally does okay unless there's thunder or fireworks--but always has some separation anxiety. We've been lucky so far but it looks like she just plain panicked.
  • @MrsLittleMac I feel so bad I laughed about that!! I think it was a sympathy crazy laugh. This is what our cats have done to my son's carpet... it was in great shape when we moved in a little over a year ago, and the little shits are even sitting in there for me to take this pic haha (ignore that I need to run the vacuum this floor shows every spec of debris)

  • Yikes! H is quite pissed, understandably, buuuut now I get a reason to shop for flooring. Probably going with laminate though haha.
  • @MrsLittleMac our dog has separation anxiety real bad. She normally poops if we leave her home alone. When we went away for about 11 days we left her with my brother and his wife. They have a dog, and said she didn't have any accidents there. Since we've come home we've left her out in the house and she hasn't made any accidents... we are considering a second dog now because it seems like that helped her. Has your dog been left alone with another dog before? Did is affect your dog if you did? Do you have any thoughts or suggestions on what you do to help your dog? We've tried everything from giving her new treats and toys using kongs filled with peanut butter, leaving TV or radio on, none of that really helped our dog. I was wondering if you've found anything to lessen the anxiety. Our vet didn't offer any other options besides a thunder shirt or whatever it's called but she doesn't like having stuff on her like that.

It looks like you might have nice flooring underneath the carpet?
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @kswiger06
Unfortunately the underfloor is just a patchwork plywood base.

We've tried introducing her to other dogs but she is, for lack of a better word, an asshole. She's polite and calm for 3-5 seconds and then will instigate a fight as soon as the other dog lets its guard down. I haven't let her finish any of those fights because by that point *my* anxiety is through the roof haha. But she does well with kids, and I'll be stepping my hours back since it makes sense to do that rather than pay for childcare--so one of us will always be home. Holding on until that point, the only other thing I can think to do is crate train her. She also does not like thundershirts, but loves her backpack. Sometimes if she's extra ramped up she gets to wear that around the house (packed with bottled water) to help tire her out a bit. She likes having a job to focus on, as far as I can tell. But apart from that nothing else seems to work. When we got her two years ago she would also have accidents on the floor, get into the trash, and would steal my shampoo from the bathroom and chew up the bottle! Hence being confined to just the one room when we leave. The accidents stopped but I don't remember what we did differently apart from switching her food to a kind for sensitive stomachs. She still pukes when really anxious but no other accidents for like a year now. ~knock on wood~
  • Our first dog, Lana, came crate trained.  We did try a brief stint of non-crate freedom; but, she tore up too many things and went back in after a month.  Even in her crate, her anxiety showed itself with obsessive paw licking.  She would be sopping wet and had constant yeast infections in her front paws.

In May, we got Tigger.  Luckily, he was also crate trained (although, not as happily/easily as Lana - he would usually require a full house chase until he realized how awesome my frozen Kong treats are).  Somehow, just having him in the crate nearby, Lana has stopped with her paw licking.  She also doesn't chase and bark at the deer at the back of our property now because Tigger takes care of it.  I feel like she sees him as a protector in a lot of ways...  maybe because he's an older "street" dog.

  • @kswiger06 I never understood why dogs do that.  My old roommate had a pug  and the first few times he was left alone, he pooped and he like FLUNG it all over the walls for some reason! I understand the pooping, but why did the little guy throw it everywhere?
