Another FFFC: I don't see anything wrong with discussing birth control on here. I get that the timing is bad, but we're all also posting about weekend plans and cloth diapers and whatever else. Maybe it wouldn't have caused such and uproar if it weren't right on the heels of the "depressed and guilty" post, but again, I don't think it's offensive or inappropriate to talk about when you're done having kids.
That one was my bad. The fire was for sure still burning inside and it was only said out of protectiveness for bdester's feelings (in case she came across the thread). Like @Xstatic3333 said earlier, there is probably going to be an appropriate way to talk about permanent BC. I didn't mean to make it sound like a taboo though, and I apologize again

I kind of agree with this. The timing was awful, but the subject itself isn't horrible.
I don't think anyone would have blinked an eye if it was posted differently, for me the "pregnancy scare" didn't sit well after a loss, KWIM?
  • @srscott3 I definitely understand the impulse to just shut it down. Maybe in hindsight add a note to your post to the effect of what you've said here?
Rainbow baby Dean is due 2/17/17!

Thank you for the suggestion. I updated my post :)
  • I've got another FFFC: I hate the terms "hubby" and "wifey". They just sound belittling somehow.
my Hubs hates it too-- he says it makes him think I'm calling him Chubby.

My FFFC: I hate the "cloth vs disposals diapers" thread.  I've never actually read it because the whole topic is boring to me.
I like it bc I want to CD but it feels super overwhelming. so many options! also, I want support bc my FIL is trying to pressure us to use disposables.  Hubs wants cloth but I'm getting sick of hearing I can't do cloth.

I think the deals thread is boring so in staying away :-)
Dammit @Gretchypoo! You made me read something related to the diapers thread!
    Touché on the deals thread.

  • @AfKash I like the deals thread but sadly haven't seen anything good to add yet.
Rainbow baby Dean is due 2/17/17!

I agree. I honestly didn't see what the big stink was about that post. What's the difference between asking a question like that and a threas discussing weekend plans? Obviously none of us were going to be able to decide for the OP, but I don't think the harsh responses were necessarily warranted there.

Anyway...I'm 90% sure I'll be having my tubes tied after this pregnancy. 4 kids and 4 c-sections will likely be it for me. ;)
  • Ummmmmmm we are waiting @poetryandoceans
  • Ahem... y'all, my mom-tuition was correct. My kiddo is packing boy parts.
    Congrats! That's great!
  • @PerraSucia sorry babe. You can drift off to dreamland knowing my babe has a peen.
  • I honestly did not care either way, except knowing that my gut instinct was right. I had planned to do team green, but I was so damn convinced it was a boy that I felt like if it were a girl, I needed to know.
  • Yay for weener!
  • Yay team xy! Congrats!

  • So, after complaining that I thought the idea of a "baby moon" was stupid, I'm trying to plan one with my husband.  I started thinking long and hard about it and the fact of the matter is my husband hasn't done a lot of traveling, and it will be next to impossible when the baby comes along(both practically and financially). So I really want to take him on a trip, we can't go far, but since he says he's never been to the states I want to take him on a three day trip to Seattle. It might be a bit of a pinch on our finances, but I think if we're careful we can manage it.. looking for any kind of deal on hotels.com and such.

Try Airbnb! I've heard great things about it and it's how we got our beach vacation rental at a good price.

YES!  We AirBNB'ed our entire honeymoon.  12 nights in Tuscany/Umbria for under $700.  It was amazing.
  • @BeckS13 Also, If you need to fly start stalking your flights on Google flights now. Use the calendar feature to see the cheapest dates for that flight! I saved $100 a head (x7 people!) on our trip to Costa Rica a few years back just watching and buying when the rates dipped.
Rainbow baby Dean is due 2/17/17!
  • @poetryandoceans congratulations, mom guts are always right. My mom gut has never failed me when it's come to the sex parts of my growing babes. I always tell people to trust them. Congratulations, again. My five year old son always makes life interesting and better (just as any kid does). If you don't have a boy yet, be prepared for gross conversations, wtf were you thinking moments (idk if anyone with girls have these moments), and our favorite - lots and lots of worlds best snuggles (girls do this too I believe, but I haven't experienced it yet
All of this, plus many many "things you would never think you would have to say" moments! @poetryandoceans
  • @bdesterhouse @tishb I don't have either, but I was expecting lots of what were you thinking moments either way ;) And plenty of snuggles. Someone was just telling me that boys tend to be cuddly for longer, while girls find their independence streak a bit sooner, so I'll be curious to see if that pans out...

My sons are 7 and 5, and are still the snuggliest kids ever! Curl up on my lap with a blankie and all!  o:)

My son quit snuggling shortly after daughter was born. He was 2 1/2. Daughter is 7 and still likes to snuggle up and is always touching me. Holding my hand, rubbing her hand on my back, always doing something. I think it just depends on the kid.

  • @kswiger06 that is exactly what I was thinking. Kids and babies are so different, there isn't a certain way boys or girls act. As for saying or doing disturbing and gross things, my daughter at 3 has already pretty much matched her brothers at the same age. (Or even surpassed maybe)

  • My little guy was the sweet and loving one when he was a baby and toddler.   His caring worry turned into anxiety, which seems to manifest in many ways now, lol.

But, he is my water bottle filler, grocery carrying helper and is just proud of being a good helper.  When I am sick he takes care of me.

My girls are so sweet, and loving, and my youngest girl is a cuddlebug.  She is a full body hugger and at 5 still is.  Every kid is different, but, all in all, boys and girls are both awesome :-)
    Married - 7/29/06
    Ben and Maggie - 4/10/09
    Mia - 6/16/11
    Surprise! due 2/23/17

  • I am so excited to find out, I can't wait! I kind of feel like it's a girl, and for some reason I've always kind of felt like I would have a girl first, although I know that doesn't mean anything. DH says he hopes it's a girl because boys have so much energy. I think he's remembering all the crazy stuff he did when he was little, and stories his mom has told about finding him on top of the fridge, and is scared of having a boy because of that, lol. He also told me that he hoped we would have a girl ever since he saw the home video of my 4th bday because I was so cute!  <3 That was really sweet.  I know he'll be happy either way, I just really want to know!!! If we had the extra money, I'd SO be going to one of those 4D ultrasound places right now for an extra ultrasound and to find out the sex early!

  • @pennylucille I have one of each and they are both climbers. It all depends on the kid!
    Married 5/29/09
    DS 8/10/2010 8lbs 6oz
    DD 11/28/2012 8lbs 7oz
    It's a Girl! Due 2/5/2017
  • @pennylucille my mom's favorite stories involve how I used to climb on the fridge to get the screw driver to pop off the outlet cover and either make cinnamon toast or play with my lite-brite in the middle of the night. She maintains that I was 2 years old and eventually she just left the outlet cover off to keep me off the fridge and out of the tools.
