TTC after 35

How long have you been TTC?

I know everyone usually posts this in their intros, but was just wondering how long everyone on here has been TTC!

Re: How long have you been TTC?

  • I've been TTC on and off, actively and less actively, for about 5yrs, with three different partners. Temping for 3yrs.

DH and I were NTNP for about a year, and have started with testing, docs, specialists, and BD schedules for three months now.

First RE consult is in November. Excited/nervous/really trying to make it happen before that consult!
  • My SO and I started TTC in Nov of 2015. I think this is cycle 12 for us, but month 11. We didn't do any NTNP, it has all been active trying and I think pretty much every month we've had decent timing.

We have both had testing and are now considered "unexplained infertility"

my mom said it took her a year to get pg with both me and my brother though, so I figure we are due to get a BFP soon :)
    Me: 39 SO: 36

Dx: low progesterone, possible DOR - officially "unexplained"

    TTC #2 since July 2018
    May 2019 IVF #2: BFP! (beta#1 346, beta#2 646) - vanishing twin at 8 weeks. Baby B still going strong - due 2/8/20!

  • We decided to start TTC in September 2014, but pretty much on and off and with minimal BD in the FW thanks to H not really believing you have to do it more than once.  Also, for about 6 months we were not trying at all due to my back issues/procedures - so pretty much all of 2015 there were maybe only 2-3 months when we actually truly tried.  This year we have been giving it our all, so since February we have been very consistent.

We also have been to the RE and nothing appears to be an issue with either of us.

  • @jennh75b I hear ya-just getting DH to twice during the FW is a struggle. We keep talking about it, he wants to 'actively try' starting again mid-Oct after our 7 month bench, but we're not preventing right now. For the question above, it took about 7-8 months before I got PG the first time (not temping, using Ovia app).
    Me: 39 DH: 39
CP 1/25/16 4.5 weeks, developed Graves' disease
  • We have been actively trying for 4 months.  I just started with the bump as well as FF.  I kind of figured that I did not need to do anything fancy and I would just get KU right away.  Was kind of off on that.

  • My dh and I have been ttc since April of 2014. We have had some ups and downs since then and were benched for a little while.
  • My DH and I have been TTC since November 2015, with break between May and this month while he was gone with work for the summer. So this is our first month back coming up this week's TWW for us. I think taking that break might have been a good mental break for us. We see RE if not preg by oct cycle.
  • OH and I have been trying since the beginning of the year, so I'm WTO for the 10th cycle now.  We're slowly but surely getting checked out.  My egg reserve is low, but other than that things have so far been coming out OK.  I did have a CP in June, so at least we know when can get KU....not that it doesn't still make me cry to think about it.  I'll be starting acupuncture specifically for fertility this Thursday, which I'm really excited about.  I used it to treat migraines earlier this year and have been very happy with the results...plus I noticed that my LPs were longer when I was having it done, so my fingers are crossed that it's helpful!!

  • Hi ladies I'm more active on the TTTC board & lurk here... TTC for 3+yrs. Recently started with a new RE who does a lot of his own research and aggressively treats MTHFR mutations which I was recently dx with by him. I mention this b/c many of you mentioned undiagnosed infertility and this seems to be something that they are linking to unexplained infertility, I joined a fb group and a lot of the women there say they conceived earlier in life without a problem but now they are over 35, have been dx with this mutation and are having TTTC. I encourage you to do some research and see if this is something that can help you on your journey. I'm grateful to have some answers after so long and am hopeful this will be he key! I'm 37 btw...
    TTC since May 2013
    Mild PCOS, Compound Heterozygous MTHFR
No Folic acid/pharmaceuticals/supplements (too many to list- private message me if interested), IVIL infusion
  • So...I have a maybe dumb question about how to answer this question.  (TW:  loss mentioned).  After I got engaged in December, I talked to my RE (I froze just a few eggs shortly after I turned 35 as I was quite single) in January and he said to call him if we weren't knocked up by year-end based on our June wedding and not wanting to try till after the wedding.  I didn't temp for my June cycle (and I think honeymoon travel/time difference didn't help), but did for my July one and we got pregnant with my 7/11 cycle - then loss on 10/1.  Are the temporarily pregnant months included in this count for the purpose of seeking RE/MFM help?  I'm 39 so probably even more impatient than I would have been when I was younger.

  • @artemis618 - since we are advanced maternal age the wait to get knocked up with TTC is 6 months and then looking into additional testing.  I don't know specifically if your loss would start you over or not - I would think that it wouldn't.

  • @artemis618 while I can't directly answer your question, maybe my experience at RE can shed some light...he asked (this was our first consult) how long we'd been TTC and I said we'd tried November 2015, then not December, then January through April but not for May-August because I didn't see my husband that entire time due to his relocation for work, then have tried again since he returned. I was calling it 7 months but RE said we are calling it 10.
  • This is 1st cycle ttc after having Mirena removed.  TW Was able to conceive DS on 2nd cycle after a mc @ 37.
  • I've been TTC for only 3 months now. I can already sense myself starting to obsess over it and am trying so hard to just "have fun" and not think about it so much...but it's SO tough. I keep telling myself it could take a while but I'm so impatient! This is also totally new to me as my partner and I just got married 3 months ago and I have never TTC before. Hoping to learn as much as I can since this is a whole new world to me!
  • @KatieScrine I'm on month 5 and it starting to get stressful to me. I'm contemplating doing nothing if I get AF in a couple weeks. Temping and opks.

  • Just chiming in that sometimes forcing yourself to take a month off could be really beneficial.  I know there is that component that time is not on our side, but if you get to the point where this is all you think about, get stressed about it, and it starts to take a toll on you emotionally, it could be a good time to just step back and focus on other things in life.  I had that feeling of desperation that there was no way I could afford to take a month off, but one month is not going to make or break anything.

Two months ago I had reached that point...was having anxiety, etc.  I forced myself to just take a month to focus on other things, not track my cycle days other than just needing to know when to expect AF.  I didn't focus on if it was going to be a struggle to BD enough, or to even initiate it with H.  It was great...like hitting a reset button.  I'm much more relaxed about the whole thing now.

An interesting side note from taking a month off...I had less pre-AF spotting.  Like only a day before instead of two days before AF, and it was very little to the point I had no clue AF was so close.  I didn't even have cramps the 4 days prior to AF that I usually do.  I really had very little clue that AF was coming.

  • Funny you mention spotting @jennh75b it seems I spot for even more days as each month passes with TTC. It use to be just 2 and last cycle is was 5.

  • @jennh75b Really good advice! I'm not at that point yet, but if I ever to find myself getting completely drained emotionally I will definitely remind myself to take a step back and possibly focus on other things for a little while!

  • About two years-- our first step into a fertility clinic was January 2014.

But we started at the fertility clinic, since DIY wasn't an option for us.
Me- 39 (turning 40 in April), TTC for the first time ever (since Jan 2015), low ovarian reserve
Married 3/14/14 to my wonderful wife, but her sperm count is rather low
TTC with frozen donor sperm and science

    7 IUIs, 7 BFNs.
2 IVF attempts, both cancelled and converted to IUI, both BFNs.
Decided that my tired old ovaries are ready to retire.
Next step- reciprocal IVF, using my wife's eggs, my uterus!
fresh 5 day transfer (2 embryos) 4/17/17- BFP!
Identical twins "due" 1/2/17 (but anticipated arrival sometime December)
