39w appointment down. 1-2cm 80% effaced. I wish I were more dilated but the doctor said that's a good cervix!, so I'll take it. Had a few contractions, proteinuria and good NST. Doc says I'm becoming preeclamptic and that we might need to get baby out soon, I'm so hoping she decides to come on her own to avoid induction!
Had my 38w appointment yesterday. Baby is still measuring small. He is measuring 36w so they said if he gets to be more than 2w behind at my next appointment, I also didn't gain any more weight, that we will do another ultrasound and take it from there. I feel like she was implying something about inducing because I had just asked her about how to avoid one.
Something interesting that she did mention was when she asked me about contractions and I couldn't really answer if they were time-able and level of intensity vs BH that she said often FTMs are having steady contractions but think that they aren't and are describing them as "baby being in a ball" or "scrunched up." I FEEL THESE A LOT. Maybe that will help some of you when you are asked, I hadn't heard this before.
Yesterday was my 38 week appointment. I got a cervical check and they said I am at 2 cm and 50%. I was 1 cm and 50% last time they checked at 36 weeks. So yay for progress! Everything else looks great. The doctor said basically baby can come anytime - she wouldn't be surprised if it happened this weekend, but it could also still be another couple of weeks.
So, just walked out of 38 week appointment and was told the following: GBS negative, about 2.5 cm dialated, fully effaced and baby at 0 station.
Doctor asked if my bag was packed as she believes that I'll go into labour within the next week. I had been invited to out of town to a chalet which she vetoed due to being too far from a hospital.
I'm not sure how to feel at the moment. I keep thinking I'd go past my due date but my doctor seems to disagree!! Cue freak out!!!
Edit: posted 48 weeks pregnant - that would be horrible!!!
@geminigirl16 Wow, 48 weeks? What a trooper! But seriously, I'm the same way - although not as dialated as you. I am anticipating going past EDD of the 12th, but OB keeps saying she thinks I could go any day. Maybe she just says that to all the girls.
@Jabreen I know! I saw the 48 and was like, oh hell no?! What a typo!
I know how you feel, my DD is the 13th but she's freaking me out with her conviction! I hate the unknown so much. You still think you'll go to due date?
@geminigirl16 I haven't had anything I can identify as a contraction, and I've been sitting at only .5 cm for two weeks. My mom was late with my and my siblings (except for one early induction), which I know isn't a perfect predictor, but still. I have a bag packed and in the car, just in case, and I am mentally prepared for going early, but as of right now I have no actual indications that I'll be anything but on-time.
@Jabreen I had some contractions last week that fizzled out but have felt pretty good otherwise to be honest. I've dialated another 1-1.5 cm since last weeks appointment so maybe I'll just keep inching (so to speak) my way along to my DD?
I am going to follow your lead though and actually get my bag into the car now and finalize my list of last minute items. The mental preparation is another thing - I'll keep working on that!
@mhilpisch10 I'm not ready for labour! I'm hoping my doctor is wrong and I have more time.
Who here am I going to be able to commiserate with when I go to my 39 week appointment in a couple hours and am told that I'm still super high, maybe 1cm and baby's head isn't engaged.. and I've sat on a birthing ball for work and at home for the past 2 weeks?? Rawr.
40 week appointment today. Still one centimeter dialated. I haven't had any sort of contractions yet. Really disappointed that I'm passing my due date. I'm not sure if it's the hormones, but I was in tears after my appointment. I know people rarely give birth on their due date, but because of the lack of progress and symptoms, I have convinced myself it will come down to being induced which wouldn't be until Sept.11. That just seems so far away. I have an ultrasound scheduled next Thursday at 41 weeks. Hopefully that will put my mind at ease that he's doing ok in there. I feel so silly for crying about this, but am so bummed at the thought of another week and a half of this. Just mentally and physically exhausted at this point.
@geminigirl16 Doctor said something similar to me yesterday. I'm 2 cm, 80% effaced and baby is VERY low he said. I've also been having lots of contractions. I was having some there and he asked if I wanted to walk around to see if they progressed. He doesn't want me going past my due date so he said "make appointments for next Wednesday and we'll see if you go on your own before then. If not, well book the induction". My friend was with me at the appointment cause she had her 6 week PP checkup with her OB. When I told her the news she was all excited and giddy, but I didn't know how to feel! Maybe labour is soon but I just didn't want to get my hopes up. Also the "any day now!" is starting to make me a crazy person.
@annas930 Let us know how it goes. Can't commiserate but can feel for you if that's the case. I hope progress has been made!
NST and appointment today at 36+2. 2cm dilated, soft and stretchy with bulging water. Induction scheduled for Tuesday morning at exactly 37 weeks. Yikes!
Just got back from my 36 week visit. Welp, I figured it was only a matter of time before my BP started creeping back up. With DD I was on bed rest for at least a month before delivery at 37 weeks. At least I made it this far without any issues (including no swelling/pitting)
Now I'm on modified bed rest (basically take it easy and not push myself too much), go in 2x a week for NST, have to take my BP at home, and am on meds I just want my little guy to be healthy and to keep cooking as long as that's the best place for him.
Who here am I going to be able to commiserate with when I go to my 39 week appointment in a couple hours and am told that I'm still super high, maybe 1cm and baby's head isn't engaged.. and I've sat on a birthing ball for work and at home for the past 2 weeks?? Rawr.
I am crossing my fingers so hard that there's at least some change!! If not, then you've got us, ice cream and those frozen Reeses Pieces cups to wallow in. Hoping that baby's knocking on your cervix!
Terrible appointment today! I showed up for my 10:00 appointment and they couldnt find it in the system. The lady looked me up and said "Oh, it's at the other location." Why would it be at the other location? I've only ever gone to this one place. So someone booked it at the wrong place. So, they said they had someone I could see, and I sat down to wait (with my toddler). Over an hour later, I finally got called back (I had even asked at one point if I could just come back later - I figured if it was going to be awhile, I could at least roam the halls and take the LO on the elevator or something). Then, after the nurse did her thing, she said to take my pants off and get up on the table, and the doctor would be right in for the GBS test.
It was AT LEAST 15-20 minutes later that the doctor came in, and I spent that whole time trying to keep a toddler entertained while sitting bare-assed on the table. I half-cried while telling the doctor what I thought of the whole situation. Too much frustration. Too many emotions. THEN the receptionist couldn't seem to find a time for an appointment for next week, and I was so sick of waiting (plus my toddler had missed lunch by this point) that I told them off and left, saying I'd just call for my next appointment. Totally cried on the way home.
Had my 38 week appointment today. 3-4cm dilated 60% effaced. Baby is measuring on track. BP was normal where it is typically high. They are still planning to induce me next Friday at 39 weeks. Doctor said she wouldn't be shocked it I didn't make it to next Friday. Honestly at this point I feel like we have a great plan in place for the induction as far as my mom being able to make the 4 hour drive and people to watch my 3 year old. Please little munchkin just stay put until next Friday.
No changes here, hahhaa. Was on the verge of tears but I know from last time I can go from 1cm on a Friday night to a baby in my arms Saturday night so I'm not stressing... even if I go as long as I did with e I'll have a baby in 2 weeks... that's pretty awesome.
Also, moving forward and celebrating being able to carry 2 children now to full term (plus). That's pretty amazing.
36 week appointment today. Got results from last week's GBS stab, negative so that's nice. I declined cervical check. Doc measured baby heartbeat and encouraged me to get a flu shot. Easy peasy. She also said she and one other doc were happy to let my husband back for circumcision, and we could just wait to do it until their shifts if the other docs in the practice weren't psyched on that. Two more appointments before CS!
@annas930 Blarergggg damn cervix! Glad you are able to have a positive view about it! And seems like your cervix got its shit together pretty fast last time so hopefully it remembers how to do that this time too
@SuperFudge00 It's something you carry in your gut, so your GBS status can vary with each pregnancy depending on if any of it has colonized close to the end of your GI tract.
Had my 40w apt yesterday...not too much to report, unfortunately. I am still very soft 70-80 effaced and now 2cm...baby girl hanging real low (if i have to hear that one more time, ughh) lower than last week doc said, which yay, -2 she mentioned. She stripped my membrane, which can only be described to me as scrapping a pumpkin out...at least thats the image i had as i felt it. The earliest i could schedule an induction was Sept 12th...due to the holiday... So i reluctantly took it hoping she comes way before that because that just feels like 78 years away...instead of 10 days...i also had another growth check scheduled for 9.7...heres to celebrating Labor Day the right way and holding a baby instead of dying for another 2 weeks!!! FX...!
Yesterday was my 38 week appt (38+1). GBS negative, yay. Refused cervical check. Last week a different midwife said my belly was measuring 41 - it's been a couple cms ahead most weeks and no one has been very concerned about it. Different midwife this time - didn't give me my measuremeant, just said "well you don't have to grow any more!"
THANKS. If I didn't already feel like Jabba the Hut, I do now.
Also, I had a nightmare early this morning that my belly was at 50 cm, actively swelling and they were rushing me to the hospital. Sigh.
Also, baby has been head down for like, 12 weeks, and that's all anybody mentioned. This midwife decided baby is OP and that I should be doing all the things to get baby to turn his head OA. So I get to spend my weekend with the spinning babies site and on my hands and knees. Feeling a bit like why did we not address this before, people?
@CantanteLirica I think they usually turn from sunny side up to OA during labor. It shouldn't be a big deal. My last one actually didn't turn, I was at ten, and they gave me pitocin at that point and had me wait on pushing, and voila! He turned at the very end. How did she know which way baby is facing? I asked at my appointment, and she said it's hard to tell much beyond where the head is...
@pizzaandwine She felt and poked around and then listened with a stethoscope in various places for what movements were?
I did did read that when I got home, that something like 87% will turn in their own. So, I'll try not to worry about it. I did have some back labour early on with my first born, so that may have been the case for him too, and I wasn't aware of it!
Out of the three midwives on my team, she's the only one that I'm not super comfortable with, which is probably what triggered the anxiety. Even my husband, who is super laid back, came out going "she's a little weird." Fingers crossed she's not the main on call person whenever things happen, but even if she is, the second person will come later on... The other two just make me much more at ease.
@CantanteLirica Youre right- most flip on their own and can even flip during labour/delivery. It's possible they hadn't mentioned something before because it's entirely possible for the baby to flip back too. At each of my growth scans, he's been a different way. So I won't worry about asking whether he's OP until I'm ready to push!
Had my 37 weeks appointment this afternoon and have been sent to the hostipal due to giving 2 high BP readings. I've been on the monitors for about 45 mins and all BP readings have been normal. They also took a blood and urine sample to test. Hoping everything comes back okay and I can go home.
Had a cervical check done too- 1cm 80% effaced and -2.
Had my 36 week appt today. Quick US confirmed baby girl is head down (woo!!). I'm also happy because the US confirmed body parts exactly where I thought they were... Little bum right by left ribs, feet crushing my right ribs. She loves to stick that little tush out (although if she's anything like her mama, it ain't so little!). GBS swab done which was easy peasy, and now I'm on to an appt every week until she gets here. Fundal height was measuring 2 weeks behind, so they said she might be on the smaller side.... I think my vag is ok with that!
36+2 appt today. All is measuring on track. Weight is down a pound from last week. Blood pressure was good but a little high from my averages. My midwife will not do CC unless I request them, so no idea on how things are looking in the department. DH and DD were at the appt as well so we talked about what labor may look like the second time around and to be proactive about getting to the birth center sooner, if LO continues to be in a good birthing position. Also, did the GBS swab (which they had me do myself) so those results will be back early next week. For whatever reason, I was feeling anxious before this appointment but am feeling much better now that it is over.
Ugh I had a very stressful 38 week appointment today. So last week I had another ultrasound because my fundal height was measuring small and today the midwife went over it and said baby's head is measuring disproportionately smaller than her abdomen. I kind of freaked out when she mentioned that there is a small possibility of microcephaly and that they'd have the pediatrician check for it after birth. The OB at the perinatal office called me this evening and talked with me which helped but I'm going back on Wednesday for another ultrasound and to have the OB go through it with me. He said it's likely that she just has a smaller sized head than belly. Still no fun to have that worry and to not know if it's something more serious.
@pdxmomtobe Sorry to hear you had a stressful appointment It can be really hard to get news like that and no concrete answer. FX everything turns out okay for you!
@pdxmamatobe so sorry that your appointment went how it did. It's really crazy for them to make that claim without being able to confirm. Hopefully it's not as serious as that. Fingers crossed you're able to get some answers to put your mind at ease. Easier said than done, but try to relax and not stress out.
@pdxmamatobe I'm so sorry for the added stress. I hope it all turns out well. Hang in there until Wednesday - I hope you have something to distract you.
@pdxmamatobe I am also crossing my fingers for you! Hearing news like that is frightening and I know that Wednesday can't come fast enough for you. Hope you find some ways to relax between now and then.
Thanks for the support ladies! It'll be tough to wait until Wednesday but the OB made me feel a little better about it after explaining how the ultrasound could be off by 15% and that she really could just be smaller with a bigger belly.
