Hi there! Sorry to do a poop post! But at least no pics! Haha. Anyway, so ever since my LO started daycare, our daycare provider has mentioned that she poops more than any baby she has ever taken care of, not just the amount of times a day (1-3) but the volume of each poop, which almost always is more than her diaper can contain. Two weeks ago she also mentioned that it was very liquidy in consistency, more than even breastfed babies she's taken care of. (LO is formula fed.) We were late on starting solid foods, didn't start til 6.5 months, so we started them right away, assuming that would firm up the consistency.
We started with avocado for 3 days, sweet potato for three days, and it hadn't changed much, so we called our dr. He was completely unconcerned that there was a food allergy or intolerance because she's growing very well, not in any pain (very happy all the time) and has had no mucus or blood in her stool, and because the consistency of her poo has always been kind of liquidy. He says every LO has their own consistency and we should only worry if she has blood, mucus, pain or discomfort or fever. He suggested giving her a bland diet for a bit and just doing rice cereal.
Well, it's been nearly a week into just rice cereal in the morning and at night and there's still no change and our daycare provider keeps saying we should take her in to have her stool tested. Thoughts? Part of the issue is that she doesn't really like cereal that much and is only eating about 4 tsps each "meal" of it. I otherwise adore our daycare provider and don't want to rock the boat or anything, but I just don't think there's anything wrong and I assume the consistency will slowly change as we keep adding more solids in.
I would LOVE any opinions!
Edited to add - LO generally has 1-2 poops a day, 3 is rare, and she seems ONLY to poop at daycare. She doesn't at night or in the am or pm, so I feel bad because our daycare provider is getting all of it, other than on the weekends.
Re: Poop/solid food question
Also, since she is incredibly uncooperative and uninterested in solids, we tend to add a bit more cereal to her bottles (she won't eat it by itself). We usually do 1/2 a scoop of cereal to a 4 oz bottle, but if we notice things getting a bit loose, we'll go up to 3/4 scoop, or vice versa if things seem to be a bit dry...
And if none of that works, we'll get her checked out by our doctor (or another one, since ours didn't seem concerned at all.)
THANK YOU!!
I just wish she would eat something! My stinker refuses pretty much everything but formula.
@maureenmce My LO poops a lot in my opinion, usually about 2x per day that completely fills (and overfills) the diapers, sometimes even 4 times a day. She's EBF and doesn't eat much food at all, just tastes food basically and then spits it back out in disgust. It's still liquidy, and my pediatrician doesn't seemed concerned at all. So I don't think it's anything to worry too much about, but I suggest just checking in with your pediatrician anyway and mention what your daycare provider said.
If your ped says it's fine, and baby isn't raising the alarm, then it is likely fine.
Maybe instead of trying to fix something that isn't broken, you can pointedly ask the daycare provider whether her concern is really health-related, or does she just not enjoy changing LO's soft diapers?
If the Dr is worried and LO seems healthy and happy, I wouldn't worry.
