I started antibiotics for mastitis about 24 hours ago and although baby only gets about 1/3 pumped/breastfed milk and 2/3 formula, he's been out of his mind with colic symptoms all afternoon/night. This nearly month old has a witching hour, but it's like it started today at 1 pm and he's inconsolable. He's usually a good sleeper/napper, and the Rock and play will do the trick if needed. Wondering if it's my antibiotics, so am thinking I'll pump and dump for a day and see if that gets him back to normal. Anyone have experience to share on taking antibiotics themselves and a change in behavior in baby?
Thanks to all for the Aquaphor suggestion. It has helped a ton!
Don't limit yourself to Baby aquaphor either it's all the same lol. And more expensive! Since no one said baby aquaphor you may not have - but just in case
Baby boy is 11 lbs at a day shy of 4 weeks, according to our home scale. He's probably going to be in 6m clothes by 2 months at my calculations. Good lord.
So, STMs, how many and what kind of clothes for a 2-4m old? Baby runs warm, but it's not going to be August forever. And, we plan to swaddle until he can roll over, and then switch to sleep sacks. I am thinking more onesies, some long sleeved onesies, some pants? Hoping to take advantage of some Labor Day sales.
@kwilliams3402 I'm dealing with a big one too! He has put on a pound since birth and is 10lbs 3 oz one day shy of two weeks. I'm so sad that he is out of newborn clothes. And all our newborn diapers will be given away.
I plan for baby boy to keep sleeping in his gowns until at least 6 to 8 weeks and then we will switch to the zippered footed pjs in mid October. I have some lighter weight swaddlers that Velcro that we will most likely use over top during winter months. I will also put him in long sleeve onesies and pants if needed. Texas weather is so all over the place!

We never touched the newborn clothes or newborn diapers here, and he hasn't worn 2/3 his 3m size clothes!
@kwilliams3402@LWC1112 I birthed a 10 lber. I'm sticking to onesies and not investing in much clothes at one time. I'm concerned I won't be able to use all the size 1 diapers from my diaper cake before he moves up. DD was "normal sized" and followed the clothing sizes really closely to her age. Some 3 month clothes are already tight...
We've been lucky with hand me downs and didn't have to buy any nb or 0-3 clothes. DS is really long legged so the 10 lbs doesn't look like 10. Im guessing that's why we can still squeeze him into nb size clothes.
DD was and still is super petite so she was able to wear her clothes forever. It will be interesting to see how it goes with this kid. I love buying the sale items sized out a year but I'm not sure if I will be able to do that with him.
@skelly1990 LO is really hot and cold with pacifiers. The only reason we still offer one is because he was over eating and throwing everything up so we've been tracking what he eats and offering the pacifier. Surprisingly he prefers the soothies which DD hated.
@skelly1990 ours won't take one either. DD loved them so this is a huge shock to my nipples. He also hates bottles so far. We have tried several and no luck yet. We have to get that figured out soon though since I work.
@skelley1990 ours will spit out a soothie, but i have been using a wabbanub ( those with animals) which seems to work better since they are weighted down. I only use those during the day though if ds is fussing trying to go to sleep.
Thanks ladies! We've tried Mam, Nuk, and the Wubanub when he's just fussing and not hungry but to no avail.
@LWC1112 C would take bottles initially but now, he'll only take one if I'm not in the house. DH has tried giving C a bottle in another room but he won't take it since he knows I'm around. Maybe try having someone give your LO a bottle when you're out of the house.
@skelley1990 DD started taking them around 5 weeks I think. Keep offering maybe it will work eventually. We like the mam ones. So far that's the kind LO seems to prefer.
@alikay20 I can't remember where I posted asking about bottles for babies transitioning from breast to bottle. But I just wanted to say thank you for your suggestion! They came in the mail while I was in the hospital and DH has been using them and he says they work great!

I think my LO has pink eye. I'm so sad and feel like it's my fault. I've had a cold since the day I went into labor (11 days ago) and been crossing my fingers I don't give it to him. Not sure if it's possible for a cold to turn into pink eye, but that's what it seems like. I'm going to bring him to the Drs tomorrow. Anyone else's babe get pink eye? How long does it take to clear up? And how the heck do you give and infant eye meds?
@BrunetteBabe722 we just gave him his first out of the hospital sponge bath at 1 week old... One the circ and belly are healed we'll do maybe every 3rd day, could go longer... i get busy!

My LO had pink eye 2 weeks ago, he was 3.5 weeks old. My older kids both got a cold, and I'm pretty sure that's how the cold showed in baby, pink eye and some boogers/slight congestion. He was all better within 2 days. Don't feel bad, ypu can't help being sick, and you have to care for your baby. Baby will be better in no time!
DD is 5 days old and she has many dirty diapers but hasn't had any just wet diapers. I can't tell if she peed in the dirty ones. She's been drinking 1-1.5oz. of breast milk about every 4-5 hours because she stays pretty sleepy and we just can't get her to wake up to eat sometimes. We try everything. What do you guys think?

If she's not getting enough, her pee will be yellow instead of clear to show that she's dehydrated. So I think the fact that you can't see it is a good sign Most pediatricians will do a weight check for free, so you could also bring her in to her doctor's office to be sure she's working her way back up to her birth weight.
@caitlinj187 my little guy had an infected tear duct that he was essentially born with. He had an antibiotic shot, oral antibiotics and an antibiotic eye cream. It cleared up really fast and wasn't too difficult to administer. I just did the eye cream when he was nursing. He was so distracted with milk he didn't even notice. Hope he gets better asap!

I would call her pediatrician, the diaper will have the blue line to tell you it's been peed in. I would be concerned with making sure she's waking up and eating often enough. The stretch is great, but you still want to make sure she's getting enough.
@Hannah0726 I would also consider the color of the poop, I kinda have always gone off of that to make sure my kiddos are eating enough/hydrated enough. The mustard yellow vs green gives me peace of mind, as does the fact they're pooping. LO took awhile to really be soaking the diapers with pee (mostly in the last couple days) and not just peeing a little.
But it of course since she's sleeping so much and taking in just a few ounces you might want to heck with your doc to see if you should be waking her more often.
@Hannah0726 I agree with what @texasmama2014 said about the poopy diaper color. You might want to try waking her more often. My pediatrician made us wake DD every 3 hours (never going over 4) until she got back up to her birth weight, which took two weeks. She was also eating around 2 ounces.
That first week and a half they are so sleepy and we had the same problem of getting DD to stay awake and feed. A trick we used was a wet washcloth and rubbing it on her bare legs, neck or arms to get her sucking every time she slowed down.

@AliKay20 ugh totally, I'm with you! My niece, who is one week older than DS is sleeping from 10-5 every night (and has been for over 2 weeks) and I'm happy if we get from 11-3! I started crying from jealousy when my mom casually metioned that she was sleeping that much.
