Re: UO Thursday 9/01

  • @joyful08 I kinda feel the same way. I send Thank You cards...but I hate doing it. I feel like they sound so stupid and forced, I already thanked you in person...why do I need a follow up?

    "Dear so and so,

Thank you so much for the BLANK. We have used it frequently."

....Why do I need to send that? I just feel fake writing it.

Exactly and I feel the same way reading it. It just feels forced. I know people are thankful so I don't need a card that I'm going to throw away in 5 seconds.

  • Awww, I love thank you notes. I think it's such a nice tradition
  • I have another one.
I love Christmas decor, and if H would let me I would put it up in October.
DITTO! Our tree doesn't have ornaments, we put up frames with family pictures-- I'm already planning how to make it better this year. also, I want a Christmas maternity shirt BAD.
  • UO: I don't like the signature challenges.  Inevitably there is one that turns me off and I have to quickly scroll past in in every thread where that person comments.

  • Regarding SAH: it's not the life for me. I work outside the home at a university, but moonlight as a doula and would like to eventually make that my FT job. I'm fine being a working mom, but the people in my neighborhood can't wrap their freaking heads around it. I get texts all the time during the work day about this and that (our neighbors are very busy bodied) and I'm like, hey I'm at work can't help with xyz or go for a walk or blah blah blah. They always forget.

  • My understanding of the TY note rule is you don't have to write one if you opened the gift in front of the giver and thanked them. Gifts that are mailed or taken home to open require TY notes. I guess this applies more to birthdays and holidays than showers - they do seem to be required for showers... Maybe it's your penance for having a gift-grabby party!   :D

Yea I'm not sure why it's required at showers but like at weddings no one opens the gifts then it's later. Like I don't send out thank you notes at Christmas or my birthday if you were there when I opened it and I thanked you but if I got it in the mail then I send one and probably also call to say I got it and thank them.

  • I love being home with a baby/toddler/little kid. But in the summers when I have say, a 5, 8, and 10 year old home all day... You can find me in the corner in the fetal position when DH gets home. They just become more and more work I swear!

YES. My husband's favorite holiday is Thanksgiving and he insists I cannot put up Christmas decorations before that day - ugh!! But I'm hoping this year I can pull the "I'm going to get bigger and bigger so I need to start putting up everything early or else you will have to do it all"
  • also, the ones on my FB feed are not this well done-- they're like something taken in the bathroom by the father. Ick.
This made me laugh so hard.
  • I think I missed some posts in here, but I love seasonally decorating.   I do love my Christmas decorations but I actually have Thanksgiving decorations so they need to have time to be up too.

  • I've been working since I was 15. I always thought that I'd continue working after having kids but now that I'm here....I have absolutely no f--king desire to work. It's mainly because of my last two jobs where people have treated me like shit even though I'm excellent at what I do.  I'm just over it.
Now, when I watch TV shows, I find myself complaining to my husband "now, why can't I work in an environment like that where people value me and my work and genuinely care about me and I don't have to constantly watch my back because some shit face lazy ass bitch doesn't like that I'm good at my job!?"

  • Late to the game, but I hate when places advertise their "big BOGO sale" and it's like "BUY ONE ITEM GET THE NEXT FOR 25% OFF!" No, STFU. BOGO is buy one get one free. drives me bananas.
This would be a very popular opinion

    Agreed!
  • Yeah I don't know when the rules changed for BOGO, but I don't approve. BOGO means boy one get one free. Period. Everything else is false advertisement in my book.
