Randoms 9.1

I'm starting a new Randoms thread since it's been a few weeks.

In honor of today's date, I give you my random: the tall decaf PSL I enjoyed this morning. Mmm...

  • DH is out of town, and I have been so lazy. There are so many things I need to do, my house looks like a disaster zone. He's getting back tomorrow night, so I'm planning on cleaning like crazy today. But I can't focus on anything! It's like I've been drinking and I just get a little bit done of everything, which means nothing is getting all the way done. And I'm on my phone, I'm going to have to restrain myself today...

  • OMG the amount of food I have consumed in the past 4 days or so is more food than I have eaten in the past 2 weeks! I am so full. And yet I'm hungry. I only put on half a pound in 4 weeks. This time I won't be surprised if it's 10!!!

  • @dmontgo - I can't stand her, for several reasons, that being one of them

I got a speeding ticket three weeks ago on the way to have lunch with my sister and, of course, today is the last day to do anything about it. I'm trying to sign up for defensive driving online but the website is saying the files I uploaded (scanned in driver's license and insurance) are invalid. Which they are not, they're info PDF format. Grrrrr.....

  • @jennbaylor12 I'm glad we can agree on the copious amount of teeth lol. She has some good recipes, but something about her seems...off?

I hope everything works out for you!
  • @ajstevenson Whaaaaaaaat?!?!?! My Starbucks doesn't have it yet! :(
  • @ajstevenson I went to Starbucks yesterday morning knowing it couldn't be bought yet, but then got that Pass thing that I saw online and am tempted to stop tomorrow morning before work just to get it. I did purchase the k-cups for it (PS Caffe Latte), and will try that out this weekend. I may have to go with the decaf so I can get some caffeine in the afternoon when I start fading around 4pm-ish.

    Bring on the pumpkin...

@domontgo and Lisa3379 I agree - weird amounts of teeth. Also, do the boobs ALWAYS HAVE TO BE OUT? Come on.

@Christinaruth74 hahahaha, you win for most random comment this afternoon I think!

  • DD fell face first out of her chair yesterday at daycare and busted her lip. I had the carseat in my car and had to rush home so we could take her to the pediatrician. She's doing a lot better now - no stitches needed and her teeth are fine. But she has a cute little fat lip. Poor baby. I'm so tired. I feel like I don't have the energy for these toddler-related emergencies.

:( poor baby loo. I feel like when something is about to happen with DS... like he's walking into the street or something - I get pulled out of pregnancy and can rush to it but then afterward I'm like hit by a truck.
Sometimes I wonder, will I ever feel energy again?

  • @LinziLoo09 I'm sorry to hear that! Last month my girlfriend's 10 month old managed to get out of her bumbo and smacked her jaw pretty hard. They took her to the ER when it would stop bleeding (common with mouth wounds). She was fine but also had a big ol' lip for several days. It's scary when that happens!

  • We're lucky that my dad is a pediatrician. So we got worked in immediately. It had stopped bleeding and she was smiling by the time I got home from work. But man that's a scary call!

  • @LinziLoo09 - sorry about DD!  Hope she is feeling ok.

I had a super weird dream last night.  I had the baby.  DH wasn't there for some reason.  I was then wandering around in the post partum unit which looked like an ER and there were basically just beds with bassinets separated by curtains and you had to walk around and find an open bed.  So I found a bed but then I couldn't figure out what I was supposed to do with the baby - feed him?  Change him?  I tried changing him and then tried feeding him but couldn't get him to latch.  Then I realized he was cold and I hadn't brought any clothes, so I was trying to call my mom to bring him clothes and he was freezing.

Apparently I'm anxious about this child coming!
  • @ajstevenson Yum. Mine was iced and decaf this morning.

  • I don't know about BF taking an hour...I bottle fed but my friend did BF and she was usually tied up for 20/30 minutes. That was after a few months though and I never got to visit when the baby was super little cuz I had the sickness.

But with all things: it's overwhelming at first, but you learn so fast and things always get easier when you've done it 8 million times. Newborns sleep a lot...leaving plenty of time to ask questions on here haha.
    DD1 5/23/14, DD2 12/5/16   Baby #3 on the way!

  • @dmontgo And she has the most gigantic head ever!  She looks like a puppet and creeps me out.
  • @Austenista newborns tend to BF for long periods of time .... sometimes it's comfort nursing and not eating per se. I'm not sure I remember it being an hour. The good news is they become more efficient after a while and it takes less time.

  • @LinziLoo09 Glad to hear that DD is ok!  Head/face bumps are always scary.

@Austenista I think an hour is a generalization.  My first DS took an hour and a half at a time, and my second DS wouldn't nurse for more than 20 minutes at a time.  I try to approach breast feeding like labour and delivery...you just never know!
  • @Austenista  Everything you are feeling is COMPLETELY normal. The few weeks are ROUGH but then you get into a swing of things and it becomes your new normal! You will figure it out, everyone does! One of the things that helped me the most was preparing to let other things go a little more and asking for help when I needed it. When my mom came to visit, I asked her to clean. When my DH came  home from work, I asked him to do the dishes. And other things like that. With BFing, it will take up a lot of your time the first few weeks, but keeps less and less very quickly after that as the baby grows. And I will say, I don't think I ever nursed for an hour at a time. In the beginning I was probably 15-20 every two hours.
  • @dmontgo @Austenista  So true. Italians are that way no doubt. I tried making a variation of my grandfather's lasagna and you'd think I took a family secret and published it in the New York Times. Yikes.

My random is that I heard on the radio that Starbucks is doing a mocha chili latte which sounds terrible to me but I guess if spicy chocolate is your thing then more power to you.

  • So, DH and I did a breastfeeding class tonight and now I'm a little freaked out about life with a newborn. I knew newborn babies needed to breastfeed often, I did not realize that they nurse for like an hour at a time. So if they want to eat 12 times a day for an hour, wow. No wonder your boobs want to fall off.

I was just in the car riding home thinking of all the things I'm going to be dealing with - whatever recovery I'm going through after the birth, breastfeeding, breastfeeding pain, no sleep, diapers, taking care of our three dogs - and just kind of processing. DH is going to try to stay a week home with me, but then what happens when he goes back to work? I'm scared.

Things are starting to feel really real over here, guys.

Lol! I guess that's the max time? My kids usually feed for about 15 minutes. Way to scare you about breast feeding....

  • @DiFazette Yep, I had the same experience with DD.  She wouldn't BF so I exclusively pumped and bottle fed.  It took forever.  And my DS1 that was a slow nurser, he had reflux so he'd throw everything up and I'd have to feed him pumped milk.  For that 10 months I was almost always attached to a baby or a pump.
The rest doesn't matter...it will eventually get done.
  • @dmontgo Bahaha, yes!  My kids are somehow obsessed with the Illuminati and I have drawings of triangles with eyes all over the house.  Bottom line...I can't watch that woman on TV.
  • +1 to having time to come ask questions on here in those moments when our newborns are sleeping. Or just read what you all are saying. While I'm not often contributing (don't have much to add most times) this group has entirely quenched my need to research everything. Well, maybe I'm still researching diapers and baby carriers but as far as pregnancy goes, you all are a wealth of information! Thanks!!!

  • @JessCL that's awesome.  Perhaps because getting married is less of a life changing event than having a child, which is also on deck for you?  I was oddly calm going into my wedding and I was super Type A before DS came around.  I hope the calm stays with you and that you enjoy your wedding and the moments before and after to the fullest!

Thank you!  We'll see how I'm feeling at this time next week ;)
  • Who wants to give me fashion advice?  I want a dress like the navy one in dark purple for my maternity photos (they will be outside in Oct and I'm in the Northeast so I figure purple will look nice with the leaves which will hopefully be changing).  I found the purple one below but I'm not totally sold on the sleeves/bow.  Should I wait?  Thoughts?  I've tried looking on other sites but no luck so far.
