  • 1: How was your past week!?
Last week was rough, both with birthday treats hanging around and a few post workout contractions made me slow down. But I still did 5 workouts like I wanted!

2: What are your goals for this week? Running x3, strength training x2

3: How are you finding you have to modify things lately with your pregnancy?  I'm running a full minute mile slower. And taking more breaks than I would ever allow myself.

4: Rants/Raves/Questions/Random :: I'm most excited about anatomy scan time getting here!! Do any of you have yours scheduled? STMs: when did you have yours last time?  I'm hoping ((just because I'm impatient)) we can have it closer to 18weeks instead of the 22week end of the spectrum.

5: GTKY: If you weren't working in the job you have now, what would you do? Anything that would allow me to travel and explore the world!! Travel journalist!? Something along those lines.

  • 1. Didn't make my goal last week, the heat is back in full force and I couldn't get myself to the outdoor stroller strides classes, made it to 2 indoor ones.

    2. SS x 3, extra gym workout x 1, 2 walks minimum

    3. Running hurts my boobs so I have been walking instead of running most of the time. I'll still do sprints in class.

    3. I said this is monday bitchfest, but I am so sick of heat and it is not helping me be motivated to workout. 8 am and it's already in the 90's... it sucks.

    3. I would have always liked to be a genetic counselor, but there are only select programs in the country that have accreditation for this degree and I moved with my husband's job to an area that does not have it. Still went to grad school, but for cell biology instead.

  • 1: How was your past week!? Mixed - I got 3 workouts in (wanted to do 5)... Decided to take 2 days of rest after I really overdid things Tues & felt like I needed to start slowing things down; also got called into work the 2 days I was scheduled off so that didn't help with fitting in time to workout.

2: What are your goals for this week? 5 workouts (already got my first one in this morning, yay!) and eating better. This week was better than the one prior with food choices although I've been eating a lot of salt water taffy which I'm sure isn't good for me or the baby, but I'll be finished the box after my last 3 pieces and then I'm hoping to avoid candy till Halloween haha

3: How are you finding you have to modify things lately with your pregnancy? Running slower...usually I run about a 9 min mile (slower than I'd like to be but I'm still ok with it), now I'm lucky if I'm under 11 min/mile. althoughhhhh I usually don't run in this heat/humidity, so maybe my last few slower runs had more to do with that?

4: Rants/Raves/Questions/Random - My new semester starts today so depending on how much work I have for my classes I might have to prioritize things differently, but am hoping I can maintain 4/5 workouts/week throughout it!

5: GTKY: If you weren't working in the job you have now, what would you do? Working for a non profit that I feel passionate about...probably with animals at a shelter or rescue organization. Ultimately that's what I'd like to do after I finish up grad school. :)

  • @serenity13. Nice work!!

I've been blaming my pace on the heat and humidity too. Haha.  Even if it's not the reason... Still feels nice to blame it on something like that ;)
  • 1: How was your past week!? I started out strong but finished pretty lousy :/

2: What are your goals for this week? I am going to get to the gym at least 3 times this week and (weather permitting) I'd like to start talking walks with my husband after dinner

3: How are you finding you have to modify things lately with your pregnancy? I am definitely a little slower and my weights have been feeling heavier, but other than that I haven't really modified yet.

4: Rants/Raves/Questions/Random - These past few days I have really felt like a new person! Don't get me wrong, I'm still pretty tired and I went to bed at 9:30 last night, but my queasiness is pretty much gone! I even brought a piece of fruit to work today to eat with my lunch (the thought of fruit has turned my stomach these past few weeks). I'm hoping the worst of MS is gone for good and I'm really excited for this week to get back into a steady workout routine and to stop eating so many carbs!

5: GTKY: If you weren't working in the job you have now, what would you do? I'd love to be a party planner!

  • 1: How was your past week!?
Finally had a really good week. I think I mentioned it last week but taking the Diclegis changed everything. Not being so sick has finally allowed me to rejoin the living and come out of the pukey zombie cave I was living in! I got in 3 solid crossfit workouts, some long walks and some strength in between.

2: What are your goals for this week?
Crossfit 3x and a really slow run to try it out.

3: How are you finding you have to modify things lately with your pregnancy?
Definitely have to slow it down at Crossfit and I've backed off most of my typical lifts. I don't ever do "max" lifts when they are called for, instead I do sets of 3 or 5. I'm trying to focus on my form instead of the load, and during class I just have to go at a more moderate pace so I don't overheat.

    4: Rants/Raves/Questions/Random
I'm trying to figure out how sweaty is "too sweaty". It's hot out still and I work out at a "conversational level" but I sweat like crazy! If I'm not feeling like I'm over-doing it, do you think its dangerous to get super sweaty? I'm not sure where the line of "overheating" is.

5: GTKY: If you weren't working in the job you have now, what would you do?
I don't love the work that I do (I'm a footwear designer) but I love that I get to travel. I'm in the same camp with you @kjd291 I'd love to travel more for a living as a travel writer or something like that!!
  • Good morning ladies! I'm on vacation this week so I'm hoping to be more active, I'm not going to lie I opened this thread at the beginning of the week last week and then didn't open it again because I did not do anything healthy lol.

1: How was your past week!? Well see above... Honestly I haven't been going hog wild but I definitely did not work out last week. Work was completely insane and every day I was so drained physically and emotionally that I just had no energy for anything but sleep. Also it was probably one of the worst weeks symptom wise that I've had so far.

2: What are your goals for this week? Get out and walk every morning with MH and the dogs. Do some strength training. I haven't run since the start of this pregnancy, I think it just freaks me out too much and I'm just going to stick to walking. Plus I get out of breath really easily which is super strange!

3: How are you finding you have to modify things lately with your pregnancy? Definitely not as full force as I used to be.. I used to do HIIT as well as longer runs each week with a lot more strength training. I've just been trying to not over exert myself but still get a workout in.

4: Rants/Raves/Questions/Random: Feeling like I've gained some weight over the past two weeks since I stopped weighing myself, which I know is inevitable. I guess I'll find out at my appointment on Wednesday! I just don't want to let it get out of control.

5: GTKY: If you weren't working in the job you have now, what would you do? Definitely either a makeup artist or working for a make up brand. I have a terrible addiction and it would just be the dream for me to work with makeup every day! I've done my friends makeup for weddings and events for years, I love it :)
  • @jenny0228 I wouldn't worry about the level of sweat at all.  ((Other than to make sure that you are drinking enough to replenish the fluids)) I think that focusing on keeping it to a conversational level means you're doing a great job at not overexerting yourself and that should be enough! "overheated" will be obvious to you-you'll start to feel more than just workout warm and know to take a break.
  • thanks @kjd291 - that makes total sense. Thanks for the reassurance!

Happy Monday, Ladies!! This is my favorite thread in this group! I loved reading all your recaps & new goals. You all are so inspiring!! STAY STRONG!

1: How was your past week!? I had a solid week! Worked out 5x, as I had planned.  I made some adjustments to my original day-by-day, though. Only got in 1 day of CrossFit instead of 3 (didn't want to get up at 430am the two days I missed), on those days I did Treadmill 5k's. But I did get in all 5 days of my Jamie Eason LiveFit Trainer plan! I also watched what I ate all week, packing my lunch bags most days. We did go out to eat Friday night and I ordered an amazing burger with fries at this placed called "The Meat Cellar" and Saturday we spent the day in Laguna Beach so we had breakfast and lunch there, but I kept my meals healthy. I weighed in on Sunday and have lost 2lbs in the last week. I'm 12.5 weeks pregnant, not sure if that should be concerning? I've got my next Dr's appointment on Thursday, so I'm hoping for all good news!

2: What are your goals for this week? Pretty similar to last week's....
MONDAY: CrossFit + LiveFit Trainer Back/Biceps (DONE!)
TUESDAY: Cardio + LiveFit Trainer Legs
WEDNESDAY: CrossFit + LiveFit Trainer Chest/Triceps
THURSDAY: Cardio + LiveFit Trainer Legs
FRIDAY: CrossFit + LiveFit Trainer Delts/Abs
    SATURDAY: OFF
    SUNDAY: OFF
Also want to keep my eating clean again this week. I did some meal prepping last night to help with that. Cooked Spaghetti Squash, an Eggplant & Artichoke Turkey Meat sauce, and made a Cranberry & Chicken Salad to help me through lunches this week. Also baked a dozen Spinach & Egg Muffins for quick breakfasts / pre-workout snacks this week.

3: How are you finding you have to modify things lately with your pregnancy?  My running has also slowed waaaaaaay down, as I'm taking regular walk breaks throughout. I now do 1min or .25mi high intensity intervals at a fast pace, followed by 1min walk break, which results in an overall slow mile. I also take more breaks during CrossFit and have lowered my weights on all my strengh training. Although today we did a Cardio / Body Weight chipper and I finished 2nd in a class of 12 :) I did modify the last set of 10 Burpees though (I don't hit the ground, just pop my legs out instead)

4: Rants/Raves/Questions/Random: It's been tough for me to get involved in other threads in this group.... This is my first pregnancy (where I've made it past 8 weeks; I've actually been pregnant 3 other times) and I'm 40yo, so I'm having a hard time "connecting" with others. I think that's why I love this group so much. Thanks for being here! :) Also, @kjd291 ... my anatomy scan has been scheduled for October 13 @ 19 weeks. I have no idea what to expect... fill me in! :)

5: GTKY: If you weren't working in the job you have now, what would you do? I would definitely have my own Health & Wellness facility that offers both physical & spiritual training. I'm trying to get my sh*t together to go back to school for a dual masters in Counseling Psychology / MFT and Counseling Ministry, but I'm missing a couple of pre-requisites from my undergrad that I'm finding impossible to just commit and get done..... hopefully soon!

Oh I do have a quick question.... how do I get a countdown ticker on my posts?? LOL.. I got the code, but don't know how to permanently insert it. I've always been so good with these things, but The Bump has been challenging for me! What the ?!?!
  • @triwellnessgirl I wouldn't worry about the weight loss quite yet. First tri is give or take for gaining--it's not till second tri that I would guess the doctor would be concerned that you're putting on weight.  ((Becomes for average 1lb a week.))  I'd just say: make sure you're eating enough cuz your working hard staying so active you need to make sure to replenish the calories burnt as well as the recommended +300 once you reach 12/13 weeks for baby.

All of the food sounds delish!! Making me want some cranberry chicken salad!! I'm glad you enjoy this thread <3 im glad you're here!  You're kicking some major Preggo booty!!

anatomy scan was my FAVORITE part of my last pregnancy. Not only can you learn the gender (If you so choose) but it's a good 45min of sitting and watching your baby! It's not like the first scan you get when baby is such a teeny little blob, everything LOOKS like a baby. You see so much detail as the tech checks each little finger and toe, all the chambers of the heart, the sections of the brain.... You see baby breathing in amniotic fluid to exercise their lungs, see every little kick and squirm, and hiccup.  So amazing what we can see through science and reminder of the true miracle of birth!!  it makes everything seem more real and comforting to know baby is perfect!  So yes!! Can't wait <3

also:: LOVE the physical health and spiritual training combo concept.  I always say that there is no point in being physically fit if you're not spiritually fit.  Hope one day you can pursue those last credits and make it a reality! I'd totally attend your facility!
  • Thanks so much for the support @kjd291 ..  you're the bomb dot com!! :)

WOW! The anatomy scan sounds AMAZING!! How incredible! Can't wait to see all that detail about out little nugget!!! <3<3<3
  • @triwellnessgirl you are on FIRE girl! Way to go! Definitely an inspiration! Love that you are also a fellow crossfitter and keeping with it. I'm also approaching 40, I will be 40 in Feb so therefore 40 when this baby comes. I agree this is an absolutely fantastic and supportive thread full of motivated ladies!!!

Thanks for the encouragement @jenny0228 !!!! You're doing so great too with your consistent CF'g!!! Way to go!! And HOORAY for the old ladies, LOL.... I don't feel 40.... Thanks to CrossFit & general physical fitness ;)

i just noticed you're a footwear designer! I used to work for PUMA for 12 years.... Sales and then Apparel Merchandise Management. Worked a bunch with the footwear team to coordinate product lines. It was fun for a while. :)
  • @triwellnessgirl wow this is such a coincidence...! I used to work for PUMA too-- I was a color designer back then in 2003/2004 and spent a lot of time in Herzogenaurach, but I was based in Boston.

AND cheers to 40 - I agree CF and all kinds of fitness keep you young. And being pregnant definitely makes me feel less my age. Now just want to get to the "glowing" part!!  :)

  • edited August 2016
Um. Crazy @jenny0228 !!! I was with PUMA at the time too (1999-2011)... Also in Herzo (way too many times!!) and at the Boston Design Center weekly.  I was based in the Westford office. That's crazy!!
  • I'm so grateful for this thread! You ladies are incredible and keeping me accountable!

1: How was your past week!?
I did pretty well last week. I worked out 4x's at the gym averaging between 20-30 mins of cardio and 30-40 mins of strength training. I did some wake surfing on Saturday but took it easy. I stopped when I started to feel too tired. My core and glutes were on fire Sunday so I took a rest day.

2: What are your goals for this week? Hit the gym 4x's again this week and attend at least two spin classes.

3: How are you finding you have to modify things lately with your pregnancy?  I'm running a little slower on the treadmill and I am doing shorter intervals. I back off when I feel like I can't carry on a conversation. Overall I feel ok.

    4: Rants/Raves/Questions/Random :
*Rant*about everything giving me indigestion and heartburn lately.

5: GTKY: If you weren't working in the job you have now, what would you do now?
Secret shopper or food and wine critic.

Thought I posted I the wrong thread but then realized I posted in the right one. Pregnancy brain got me like...
  • @Cbeanz & @triwellnessgirl I agree! I love this thread and it def helps keep me accountable & motivated! I've officially reached the double digit weeks today yay! I weigh myself only on my ticker change days (I would NEVER go near a scale before I found out I was pregnant because years ago I had a seriously unhealthy obsession over my weight) and like seeing the # go up now because I feel like it means the baby is growing. I do know several people who lost weight esp. in their first trimester (I just typed semester....I second @loveyoga7 my pregnancy brain is in full swing this morning) though so that seems very normal to have it fluctuate and nothing to worry over.

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @serenity13 I'm glad you are able to have a healthy relationship with your scale so far this pregnancy! Hope it continues! I also have been there with unhealthy obsession over weight, and gaining last pregnancy was really tough on me. I'm hoping this time around weight isn't as emotional a struggle because I've been through gaining it and successfully losing it all.

I just stepped on the scale this morning to find I've gained 5lbs! (Hadnt weighed myself in two weeks) Right on track for where I should be as I've entered the second tri.
  • I have a question for you STM's here - and this is going to make me sound like I have an unhealthy obsession with weight right now - but I really don't!  I just feel like I have been in the best shape of my life before this pregnancy, and I'm accepting and comfortable with the changes coming as the months progress, and I have every intention of gaining the weight I need to and hopefully not much excess. BUT how hard was it to lose the weight after the baby? How long does it really take before you can start exercising again? Understandably I will have more pressing and important things to worry about once baby comes than going for a run..... (such as caring for a baby!!) but I'm just curious. Not in an unhealthy way.... hope it doesn't come across like that!!  :#

also @triwellnessgirl cannot get over this coincidence! we were likely at some of the same line reviews in herzo or the design center! SMALL world!!!  :)
  • @jenny0228. I'll start by saying the cliché : Everyone is different, every pregnancy is different.   But for me: I lost almost 30 of 35lbs in the delivery room and couple days following.  I was feeling great so I did very easy home exercises and walking long stroller walks some days, till 5wks/6wks  when I went for follow up with doc, and got approved for exercise and started running and doing more high intensity again. ((So usually around 6 weeks is what docs make you take for rest of activity: exercise, sex, etc. till you go in for exam and get cleared))

If you maintain your activity over the next 6 months, even as you loose some strength and stamina, you will be starting off so ahead of the game once post partum hits compared to the average mom who tries to loose the "baby weight" but didn't maintain any kind of baseline fitness while pregnant. Most of the weight you gain WILL just be baby, and all your body does to gain fo baby-and you'll loose that fast!

All in all, I'd say, you get what you put into it! Sounds like you'll be just fine if you're chomping at the bit post partum and enjoy being active!
  • @jenny0228 Every mom and every pregnancy are different!  With my first, I gained ~22lb, and I was nursing, and got back to my pre-pregnancy weight in 5 weeks!  Now, I lost a lot of strength and I was still a different "shape" like couldn't fit all my clothes, but it was shocking how fast it came off.  I always said if I knew how fast it came off, I'd have gained way more :)
With my second, I gained the exact amount of weight, but it took longer to come off, maybe 6 months.  But I wasn't watching my intake after she was born.  I was eating like a pig! LOL
  • Thank you so much @kjd291 and @Cbeanz for sharing your experience. I suppose it's true that everyone will have a different experience- but mostly curious because you ladies are all super active. Most of my family and friends with kids either didn't start working out until well after their kids were born or still don't work out at all.
  • @jenny0228
I gained 65 lbs my last pregnancy. I didn't work out pretty much the entire time and it showed. I didn't realize how much weight I gained because I didn't weigh myself and turned my back to the scale at every doctor's appointment because I used to have an unhealthy relationship with the scale. I used to obsess about my weight and thought that if I didn't weigh myself than I would gain the weight necessary to have a healthy pregnancy. I was wrong. I was on the border of gestational diabetes and had to take the awful glucose test twice. This time around I am working out throughout my entire pregnancy, I am not indulging in unhealthy cravings and I am weighing myself weekly and holding myself accountable. So far I have gained 4 lbs and just reaching the end of my first trimester and I already feel so much better than I did last pregnancy around this time. Last pregnancy it took me around 6 months to lose 55lbs and I didn't lose the last 10 lbs until DD turned 1.

This is time my goal is to not exceed a 30 lb weight gain. This group really helps keeping myself motivated and accountable. I have a feeling that I will bounce back sooner this time.
  • Thanks @loveyoga7 - this is really good to hear your experience as well, thank you for sharing it!!  :) This group is definitely great for accountability and hopefully we will all stay as motivated as we are now when we are heading into the last trimester!!!!
  • Got my HIT in today, and my 3miles in last night. How are you ladies doing?

Happy Hump Day!! remember, we're pregnant, not powerless!
  • Hi Ladies! I hope it's okay if I join you. I'm 11 weeks today and finally feel like I have a bit of a routine going after being exhausted the past few weeks. I see some fellow CrossFitters which makes me excited too!

1: How was your past week!? 2 CF workouts and 1 walk

2: What are your goals for this week? 3 CF workouts and 2 walks

3: How are you finding you have to modify things lately with your pregnancy? I've modified almost everything. I gave up running. After having nagging hip from a half marathon in May it just seemed like a good time to take a break. All my lifts are super light in CF now and absolutely no max lifts! I also try to keep everything at a conversational pace instead of really pushing myself.

4: Rants/Raves/Questions/Random: It has been so stinking hot in my CrossFit gym! Yesterday it was 83 inside the gym and that felt like a 'cool' day in there. I can't wait till this heat is gone!

5: GTKY: If you weren't working in the job you have now, what would you do? I'd be living on an island in the Caribbean writing novels!

  • @sarahbobby of course! The more the merrier! Welcome :) congrats on hitting 11 weeks, I'm sure you'll have an easier time as you come into the second tri soon.  Great job sticking to the cross-fit despite the exhaustion--keep up the good work!

1: How was your past week!? Great!  Got in 3 intense workouts plus mowing (essentially a 90 min power walk with shoulder work lol)

2: What are your goals for this week? 4 intense workouts!  This board is motivating me this week!

3: How are you finding you have to modify things lately with your pregnancy? No more ab work, sadly. And if my heart starts racing I slow down until it's under control. But for the most part I'm still using heavy weights.

4: Rants/Raves/Questions/Random - QUESTION - are you ladies finding cardio WAY harder to keep up with than your anaerobic/weight training?! I have trouble walking up a flight of stairs!  But I can still lift heavy.  Is this true for everyone?

5: GTKY: If you weren't working in the job you have now, what would you do? I think I would have gone into Food Science.  But as an undergrad chemistry major I didn't know Food Science grad school existed - so I went for Analytical chemistry instead.  OR, I would have gone into Financial Math and become an investment banker. But at some point I'd probably get sick of thinking about money all the time.

    ETA: Question.
  • Hi @sarahbobby !!! Welcome!!! It's great to *meet* you! Isn't it great to get past that MS / no-energy phase?? I lurked on here until I was past that phase in my pregnancy and now am stoked to have a place to check-into and discuss our fitness goals and progress during pregnancy! WooHoo!! Way to go on continuing with CrossFit!!! #BuffMommasInDaHouse
  • I've been having a good week so far!!

    MON: CrossFit + LiveFit Back/Biceps
    TUES: Cardio + LiveFit Legs
WED: CrossFit + LiveFit Chest/Triceps (had to leave out a few exercises because I goofed and had to rush home between CrossFit & Lifting to grab the change of clothes I had put out the night & forgot to grab as I left the house at 5am...I've never done that before!)

I had planned to do Cardio + LiveFit Trainer Legs tomorrow but when I planned that I forgot I had an eyelash appointment today (I get extensions done every other week) and I can't get them wet for 24 hours... So no gym for me! I'll try to make it up over the weekend!

Some good news.... Received my non-invasive genetic screening results today... NORMAL!!! WooHoo!!

    Tomorrow I have 2 pre-natal appointments.... Can't wait to see Baby!!!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
  • @triwellnessgirl congrats on the screening results & good luck with your pre-natal appointments!!
@sarahbobby welcome!! so happy you're here!!
@Cbeanz yes, cardio seems harder for me! by the time I get home from work I feel some days I can barely make it up stairs too lol - doesn't bode well for the next 6+ months but hopefully it's just 1st trimester tiredness...

you ladies all sound like you're doing awesome so far this week! :)

I'm about to get my 3rd workout in for the week now & tomorrow morning I'll go running...hoping to fit a 5th workout in on Sunday before work.

Keep up the great work everyone! <3

  • Happy Thursday Ladies! I had a great cardio workout yesterday and I am starting to feel like myself again! I'm looking for some suggestions for healthy lunches to bring to work. I used to be all about salads but the thought of that still isn't sitting very well with me yet. What to do you all do for lunch?

@gracie4400 Lunch is hard.. especially planning ahead to bring something to work! I used to be all about grabbing a salad up the street, but now that I'm pregnant I'd rather bring my own. I had a hard time with the m/s and am starting to feel better now but I was off salads too. I did some greek salad wraps on a pita (with pasturized feta of course) and found that having a little bread helped get the veggies in. I've also been making a lot of healthy soups since those sit well with me and taking them for lunch. Some days I'll do a few small things like an apple with peanut butter or almond butter, then a few hours later some carrots, then some yogurt with granola.

But.. there have been days that I'll go down to our cafeteria for a seltzer water and end up getting a huge slice of pizza while my healthy lunch sits lonely in the fridge.  ;)

also @triwellnessgirl congrats on your screening! yay!
  • @gracie4400. I've been having more luck with lots of healthy(ish) snacks spread out all afternoon.  Fruit, carrots, yogurt, smoothie.  For something more "lunch-like" I've been doing a sandwich loaded with veggies... But gets the carb cravings in and get the protein.
