Which sounds better: Emma or Olivia?

My husband and I are so torn.

We have a daughter named Lillith, but she goes by Lily.

We are having twin girls soon, and we are set on one of the girls names being Lily.

We're torn on a secon name though.

Does Emma Grace or Olivia Joy sound better with Lillian (Lily) Hope.

Emma for sure. Too much of an "L" sound on Olivia

    Emma.

Lily and Olivia run together in my head.
This! Lily and Oli via sound too much alike for my taste. Both are great names though!

    Emma Grace.

Both are great, but I agree Lily and Olivia kind of run together. Plus if she goes by Liv or Livvy at all, that is super matchy with Lily.

Maybe I'm just being a dick, but I feel like it shouldn't matter THAT much how your daughter's names sound when placed together unless perhaps they were twins.  Their lives will largely be lived independently.

In the grand scheme of things, it really doesn't matter. I personally don't put much weight into it but I think about as a parent calling the two names together for a variety of reasons while they grow up, and Olivia and Lillian almost becomes a tongue twister to me. If it's between two names that I really like, and one has that quality, I'd pick the other.

I don't think it's just a parents calling your name issue. It's also teachers, friends, relatives, anyone who knows your sibling really. It's kinda annoying being called Liv and having to say, "no I'm Lilly" all the time.

    My vote is for Emma.

My vote is for Emma Grace! I like it better with Lily and I like it more than Olivia Joy.

    Good luck!

Thank you so much for all of your helpful replies!! I love the name Olivia Joy, but My husband and I were also worried that it sounded to L heavy. I'm thankful for your input to confirm that may be the case!!

Just to clarify,  you already have a daughter who goes by Lily, and you're naming one of your future daughters Lily also?
I just reread the OP after this and now I'm super confused too so you will have a Lilith and Lillian who both use Lily?
    Having re read this.. ...

    WTF op?

I would pick Emma AND Olivia.  Or a different name.  Wouldn't go with Lilly if you already have a DD who goes by Lilly - that makes no sense

Wait so you're gonna have Lily #1 and a Lily #2?

I re-read the op about 3 times before reading the comments. Thinking "you have a Lillith(Lily)but you are naming a twin Lillian? If you already have a Lillith/Lily, do not use one of the twin names as Lily or Lillith or Lillian or any variation of the name! That will lead to a LIFETIME of confusing. Was it a typo?

OP come back I'm dying for clarification on this.

If you already have a daughter named Lilith who goes by Lily, I would scratch Lillian (nn Lily) off the list completely. Very confusing.

I take that op isn't coming back because she said they were SET on one twin being named Lily.

Me too! Especially after there were 16 comments which didn't mention that! I thought I  must have read it wrong.

Oh god how did I miss the whole double Lily thing when I read through this?  LOL oh how I hope OP comes back and explains herself because that's so ridiculous.
  • Options
Ok, yeah, definitely go with Emma AND Olivia if you already have a Lily.
  • Options
As soon as I read the OP I scrolled down out of confusion and was surprised it took so long for someone to mention the whole "two Lily's" thing lol. If you already have a daughter named Lillith NN Lily, please do not name another daughter Lillian NN Lily. I'm not sure how that would even work. Just go with Emma Grace and Olivia Joy, they're pretty and sound great together.
