Re: September IUI

  • We will be doing our first IUI in Sept.  I'm nervous but hopefully it will boost our chances.  I also have my first appt for acupuncture a week from today.  I'm hoping it will help me relax if nothing else.
GTKY:  My DH and I met online the summer before our senior year in college.  Our colleges were close by so we only chatted online for a few days before meeting IRL.  Fell in love pretty quick after that!

  • I'm doing my first IUI ever in September. I've never been so impatient to get my period. I'm heading to the beach for a relaxing week with my best girl friends and hopefully prepare to get this show on the road!
GTKY: I met my DH online at Plenty of Fish. After a lot of weirdos, his first message to me was about his dog liking his jokes and I knew he was special!

  • I'll jump in to get on this train early this time and maybe be able to keep up.  We're starting round 3 of Clomid, I'll start taking it tomorrow (upping my dose AGAIN, three pills a day this time, I'm just totally ruling out sleeping for the next week cause it gives me such awful dreams and night sweats) provided my US and blood work tomorrow come back clear, hopefully our IUI will be over Labor Day weekend.  Not the way I wanted to spend Labor Day weekend, but gotta do what you gotta do.
GTKY: We met through friends at a bar, the last two singletons left with all the long term couples.  Not a very interesting story, but it's ours.
  • Our IUI got cancelled today so it looks like I'll be joining the Sept group. Looking forward to getting to know you ladies when I'm not feeling so bad.

DH and I met at a country club in town - he was a golf pro and i drove the beverage cart. My first summer at the course he had a GF, but when I came back after college for year 2 he was single and we've been together ever since! :)

  • Thanks for starting this!!
AF was a little late this cycle, so our first IUI will be at the very beginning of Sept. Starting letrozole tonight.

    GTKY
DH and I met through a mutual group of friends in the dorms my freshman (his junior) year of college. I didn't remember him that night though (but he says I was the only person in the room in his eyes :) We met for a second time at an open ice skating event, and I was surprised he remembered me! We hit it off as friends, but didn't date until about a year later. 5 years of dating, and 6 years of marriage we're still going strong!

  • So now they're switching me from Clomid to letrozole... They wanted to up my Clomid dose again, and upping it from 1 to 2 pills last month made the side effects awful (I basically didn't sleep for a week because of the night sweats and crazy dreams), so when they wanted to up it again to 3 I was like "umm... so does it matter that I basically don't sleep the entire week I take the stuff?"  The doctor was like oh yeah that's not good, let's try letrozole.  So they're putting me on a 2 pill a day letrozole cycle this time to see how I respond. I'm just hoping I'll get some sleep this week, DH and I have a crazy couple weeks planned and I really don't feel like launching into them on 2 hours' sleep a night.

Anyway, has anyone tried Clomid and letrozole and had different experiences on the two? I just want to see how they compare for other people...
  • @Sasha29 I only did on cycle with clomid and that was enough for me. I responded about the same on Letrozole (femara), but the side effects were significantly less! GL!

  • Well, this board may end up being me, so I figured I'd say hello. I have an u/s 8/29 to see whether to trigger that day or do something else...so I'll hopefully be doing my first IUI at the very end of August or the beginning of September.

GTKY: DH and I met at a mutual friend's house early in 2009 for a night of drinking and rock band. His girlfriend at the time was there and was pointedly ignoring everyone, which made it kind of awkward. Over the next couple months we started talking and hanging out more, and then he broke up with her and we started dating! Married for six years now. I felt bad about being "the other woman" but all of his friends assured me that their relationship was over before we even met, they just hadn't admitted it yet.

@sasha29 I haven't tried Clomid but letrazole hasn't been bad at all. I was really worried when reading about the possible side effects, but I haven't had much other than a tiny bit of hot flashes and some tiredness.
  • @madasm0530  That makes me feel better, thanks!  My RE seemed pretty confident about it, so I'm not terribly concerned, but there's always nerves that come with a new med.

@skysong113  I've heard letrozole is Clomid's kinder, gentler sister, so I'm hoping the side effects ease off from the Clomid.  The other benefit of letrozole is there's no copay for it for me, I guess because this is technically off-label use; not that I was paying much for Clomid (my last cycle cost me like $25), but free is better than not free.
  • Whenever I start the IUI thread something happens; I'm out this cycle. U/S this morning showed two large cysts - 15 and 18 on both ovaries. I go back mid September for a progesterone check, then provera, then start again.  :s

    Nothing is ever easy!

GL to all you Sept ladies. I'll keep an eye on you!

  • @madasm0530  Ugh I'm so sorry to hear! Hopefully they clear up quick... What a drag.
  • Hello Everyone.  I'm new to the boards and it looks like I am going to hopefully have a September IUI.  I went in this last Friday on Day9 and follicles weren't doing that great...they were behind schedule.   I'm on five more days of letrozole and then checking again tomorrow to see where I am at.

GTNY:  I met my husband online.  I was actually dating someone else, and then eventually said I would go on a date but kept postponing due to a bunch of silliness in my life then.  Glad he put up with it and the stars aligned for us.  This September is our 1 year anniversary.

madasm0530 I'm so sorry to hear that you are out for this month.  Best of luck.

@skysong113 I have my fingers crossed for you today.  I hope it goes well!
  • @madasm0530 sorry to hear about the cysts! Hopefully everything clears up quickly!

@mrsdrwombat sending good thoughts to your follies! I had a couple pep talks with my ovaries to get them with the program- can't hurt, right?

AFM- u/s showed 3 follies at 17, 19, and 19, so I triggered this morning and have IUI tomorrow! So I'm technically still on the August board but I'll be lurking here too  Good luck to everyone!
  • @madasm0530 I'm sorry to hear about your cysts!  Boo, NOT fair!  Hang in there, girl!

@sasha29 how is the letrozole going?  hope you feel okay on it!!

@mrsdrwombat I hope your follies are growing well!  Welcome :)

I'm here now preparing for my 6th IUI (the last one I have to do before my insurance will let me move forward to IVF).  I'm planning to start clomid 100mg tonight.  (side note, I'm so sick of taking the clomid and how it makes me feel!  Rawr...)

GTKY: I met my husband at a frat party!  It was during freshman orientation at college, he was a sophomore.  He started hitting on me in the basement of a crowded frat house.  I was super awkward and nervous because I had never been to a party before.  He says he always knew he's marry me.  Haha.  We just had the 14th anniversary of our first kiss... Been together ever since!!
  • Hey All,
Looks like we are going to be trying to give a IUI (if mature follies arrive) a go in Sept now..... I am on the same cycle from August....but no mature follies have arrived. I did 2 rounds of Femera 5mg CD3-7 and CD16-20 and now we are upping the dose to Femera 7.5mg CD22-26 plus taking Estrodial 4mg CD22-52. UFFDA! All in hopes of a mature follie. US #2 said I have a good pile of follies but they are all around 10mm.....so just to small.

Also my normal doc has been out for the past few months and won't be back till Oct...when if I haven't had another IUI by that point I will be asking for injectables and researching IVF (though not necessary ready for IVF)

Anyways...hoping I get to have an awesome IUI in Sept and get all Ku'd :)

    Stats:

    Month/Cycle: 23/11

    CD or DPO: 22

What are you doing to get knocked up? Femera so many doses and IUI. I had stopped taking my Met but might get back on it. And now Estrodial too.

IUI Date: If I have mature follies at my US on 9/6 I will have IUI #3 on 9/11

    Testing: TBD

GTKY: where did you and SO meet? Online - Plenty of Fish (as embarrassing as Plenty of Fish is...not online dating in general)

  • madasm0530 Thanks for starting the thread but sorry it is turning out to be bad luck! Bummed for you about being out this month.

kdanjou Welcome to IUI's. Are you on Clomid/Femera/Or something else? I mostly enjoyed Acupuncture...I hope you like it!

soontobeshrader Welcome to IUI's Are you on Clomid/Femera/Or something else? I love your thoughts on Plenty of fish. :) Glad you caught yourself a good one hehe :) Nice to get a little girl time in! I hope it helps you!

Sasha29 Sorry to hear Clomid messes with your sleep! Hopefully Let is treating you better! Creeping up on the IUI date. Have you had any more US to see how things are going?

Isthisthereallife Hopefully this will be a better month! I hate cancelled cycles they seriously suck! Would you be awesome and make the google chart again? I don't know how to do it...but it really does help keep track of where everyone is once the Sept Thread gets busy. :)

ReesaAnne16 Welcome to IUI's. How was the Let treating you? I tend to get headaches but that is about it.

skysong113 Awesome about your US! Hopefully this will be the cycle for you!

mrsdrwombat Wishing you a wonderful 1st anniversary! Are you doing anything fun to celebrate? What # IUI are you on? What meds? :)

lady_grey gosh isn't it freaking tiring to keep having to take stuff all the time that makes you feel off to try to get Ku'd and people say crap like just relax. LOL So much empathy for you that you have been going at it Never know though when you might get lucky...maybe this will be the time. Glad you have some insurance coverage.

Funnily enough today was the first time since I started TTC assisted that my Dr's office brought up if I had any fertility insurance coverage (twice). As far as I know there isn't any coverage in MN so strange to hear that question.

  • @BecauseLove   We are still trying to figure out what to do for fun.  Its hard with all the doctor appointments to go to and the uncertainty.  This will be my first IUI.  I'm on 10mg letrozole at this point, and I've taken it for 9 days so far. Dr said I had a fair amount of follicles, just not big enough (all less than 10mm).  I'm so sorry to see that you have so many months of treatment.  We've only just started and its already so overwhelming.

Oh, and I'm also taking metformin.  I don't have any blood sugar issues, and despite multiple times checking, I don't have PCOS but they are basically treating me as if I do.
  • mrsdrwombat that is awesome that your dr is letting you do 10mg for 9 days!! Are you doing a 2nd round of letrozole to help mature your follies? Has your dr mentioned the idea of doing injectables at all?

Thanks! It does suck to be trying for so many months...mostly cause it sucks up so much of my life and brain..oh and the money and the meds. :)

Ya never know when your lucky break will happen. I hope you get to be 1 and done with the IUI. :) Yeah the same about PCOS..don't have but the were treating it as such. Met gives me so many bad symptoms though that I kinda come and go from taking it.

I am sure you will figure something out regarding celebrating. How often are you having to go into the dr?

  • @BecauseLove  We haven't discussed injectibles yet much, just that they exist if we run into issues.  So the full story is I took progesterone to start a period (because I never know when mine will show up).  I then took 10mg letrozole for 5 days starting on Day 2.  We did a check in on Day9 and multiple follies, but all pretty immature.  Started more 10mg letrazole that day and have another u/s check*in tomorrow on Day13.  Dr did mention that this cycle would be a bit of a "fact finding" mission to see what works for me.

I've been going in 1-2 times per week so far (several consults, then to get progesterone since period was MIA, then initial u/s, second u/s, now third u/s).  Of course this all happens right as my dream company calls and wants me to come in and interview.  I'm really bummed, because there is no way I can interview right now (so many appointments, would have to fly 1/2 way across the country)  so I'm going to have to pass in favor of focusing on getting KU.

The metformin has been brutal, and I slowly got myself up to 1500 ER a day.  I have to take it with a big meal or there are bad consequences, and I still get tummy issues from day to day.  I'm overweight, and don't ovulate/have periods on the regular, but no other symptoms of PCOS.  I've probably had 20 u/s since I started having periods to see what the issue is, and nothing has every turned up.
  • mrsdrwombat we seem to have a lot of similarities going on. :) I almost always have to take progesterone to get a period unless I do a trigger shot then they usually come on there own.

I am on Let round #3 for this cycle...US the day after Labor Day to check in and see if we are good for an IUI or cancelling the cycle and doing more progesterone to bring on a period and start over. I did kinda ask about injectables (I don't know if they work more or better for me) but I sorta at this point think it is just as much a crap shoot as taking Let..which sometimes works fine for me and sometimes I don't get mature follies at all.

I also don't ovulate and I remember people being really up in arms that I didn't get periods often in my teens...all worried and I was like dude...why worry this is way better than bleeding all the time. I suppose I am now paying for that. I am also overweight and edging up on 37 years old so you know that makes this whole process a lot funner.

Being overweight is one of the reasons (not the only reason cause you know $'s and stuff) that I haven't moved us quicker to IVF...IVF in my neck of the woods would likely not take me as a patient because of my weight (mind you I might be XXL or sometimes wear a 16/18...they would want me to have a lower BMI...which honestly if I could loose that kind of weight I already would have...no clue with all these meds messing with me how I could ever loose 30-40 pounds. oye..pardon the rant). :)

  • @becauselove thanks for asking, actually I didn't have any side effects, which was a relief. I did have a couple weird cramp/pains that were very brief, so I'm not sure if it was due to the letrozole or not.  I hope the injectables work better for you!

  • ReesaAnne16 glad no crazy side effects. I don't know i the cramping/pain has anything to do with the let...but it might have to do with your follies getting all big. :)

We won't be doing injectables (if we get to do them at all) until my Dr returns from leave in October. So we are just enjoying the joys of upped dosesages of Let right now. :)

Hopeful_mom please keep us updated on how IVF is going for you. Injectables every day sounds super intense...how are you feeling? Can you do the shots yourself or do you have someone else do them?

  • @becauselove Thanks!  I will be on clomid, just waiting for AF to show so I can call the RE.  I just had my first acupuncture yesterday, I thought it was good.  I feel a little less anxious.  She wants me to come in again when I ovulate.

  • @lady_grey  The letrozole's going ok so far... No real side effects to speak of, maybe a low-grade headache once in a while, and I've been really, really bloated, but other than that, really not too bad.  It's kind of disconcerting, at least I knew Clomid was working cause I felt like crap, I'm afraid since I feel ok the Let's not working, although I'm sure that's all in my head.

@BecauseLove Yeah, like I said, going better.  My next US is Thursday, with blood work, so we'll see I guess.  We're shooting for a Saturday IUI, but might have to push it t Monday if I'm not ready.
  • @sasha29 I had almost no side effects with letrozole and sometimes I worried whether it was doing anything...I got 3 good sized follies, so it's definitely possible
  • @skysong113  That's good to hear! It helps to hear that people have had low/no side effects and still gotten the intended results.  I like my RE's office and almost all the doctors there (there's one I can't stand), and I do trust them, so I'm just trying to keep trusting them and trucking along.

  • @sasha29 I get the craziest dreams from clomid too! I have never seen that side effect anywhere else so I thought it was just me. I hope letrozole treats you better!

Sort of lurking here. I'm 12 DPO now and if this cycle isn't successful we are adding IUI next time, so I may end up in the September IUI group! FX for all you ladies!!

    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

  • @Hopeful_mom I'm glad you checked in on us!  Good luck to you with IVF, I hope you are hanging in there with all the shots!

  • Saw my dr yesterday and I had one follicle ready to go!  Took my trigger shot last night and Thursday morning IUI.  So far so good!

Just in case anyone would like the info, it took 9 days of letrozole treatment at 10 mg to get my follicle ready.

@Sasha29 and @skysong113 I got headaches from letrazole.  First few days it was pretty intense, but the last half of my treatment it wasn't so bad!
  • @mrsdrwombat Go follie go! Good luck on your IUI tomorrow! Glad your headaches improved as time went on.
  • Hi everyone!  Looks like I will be joining this thread.  Just got a BFN following my second IUI in August.  My doctor is on vacation so I am on BCPs starting today (first day of AF) until I can meet with him and make our next plan (we have an appointment on 9/8).  Not quite sure exactly when the IUI will be or what protocol we will follow yet.

This is a big one for us... it's the last IUI insurance will cover.... and due to many factors IVF isn't something we can consider right now... obviously a lot riding on this.  I'm trying not to let the stress and weight of that consume me... but, it's not easy.

One day at a time... and today I am working from home and planning on having ice cream for lunch! lol.

Wishing you all a successful month!
