Re: Randoms - Week of August 29th

  • This is more for the ladies who are further along in 2nd tri or those in 3rd trimester. How often do you get ultrasounds after the anatomy scan? My OB gave me instructions of what to expect, but ultrasounds are listed up to the anatomy scan. I'll ask him when I see him today, but curious how many more to expect further along.

  • @tulips29 I am in my third trimester and haven't had any ultrasounds since the anatomy scan. I am going to ask at my next appointment if I will get any more. I know some people who the anatomy scan was the only ultrasound they had the whole pregnancy.
  • I'll be getting one around week 35, to see how the baby is positioned.

  • @Minnie1155 wow, ok interesting. I wonder if that's the reason my instructions don't list any after the anatomy scan.

@tvh1982 is the 35 week one your first one since the anatomy scan?

  • Similar to @tvh1982  my doctor told me that I will have an u/s at 35 weeks, to see the baby size and position. But last week, I could not feel baby movements as much as I normally do so they did an extra u/s. Everything was fine and I think it was the position of the baby, because she had a major change in her position last Thursday and then I can feel the kicks and moves much better now.
  • HOW MANY OUNCES OF FLUIDS ARE YOU LADIES DRINKING?
I'm not a drinker to begin with. I maybe drank about 32 oz a day. I remember with my first pregnancy I drank a ton of water. Like a gallon a day. I'm now barley reaching a little over 64oz. It's literally all I can do. Most days I can only get down those oz in juice or Gatorade or vitamin water. I've been adding in popsicles and I'm thinking about even eating Ramen or something for the broth. I know they have NO nutrition value but obviously I'm desperate here. HELP!
  • @frustrated Some days I can only get 8 glasses (64 oz), other days I get closer to 10 glasses. Adding in a little bit of powdered lemonade or even mixing juice with the water helps, or ice sometimes makes the water taste better. But don't feel too bad, Gatorade and vitamin water are still good. One thing I try to tell myself is that I have to have a whole glass of water before I have a snack

  • @Tulips29 I have my anatomy scan on Wednesday with my high risk Doctor they usually see me every four weeks I'm sure it will increase as I get further along. I have an OB appointment scheduled for sept 22nd so it seems like they still want to see me every 4 weeks and check the heartbeats. They have never done an ultrasound though
  • Thanks for your feedback ladies. I had an appointment with my OB today and he said after 20 weeks insurance doesn't really allow sonograms until specially requested for a reason. He said he normally requests one at around 28 weeks or so to see growth and another at around 34-36 weeks. With me, I found out my placenta was a bit low at my last ultrasound so he will probably request a 24 week ultrasound if it still looks low next week. He said he'll need to monitor to see if it will develop into an anterior placenta which will require a c section earlier than my due date. I really hope this placent behaves and I don't have to deliver early. Oh the things I learn every time.

  • Hi @tulips29 yes the 35 week scan is the first after the 20 week one.
Im a little confused with the 'anterior placenta' and the c-section.
Is it a placenta previa you have, but they hoping it'll change to a placenta previa?
I started with a placenta previa (blocking the exit) which had slightly developed to a placenta anterior (placenta laying in front of uterus instead of back) which makes me being able to deliver naturally as exit is free.
Or are they afraid that it stopped blocking the exit, yet hasn't moved up high enough that the head might get stuck?
As mine had moved from a private appointment at 18 weeks to my 20 weeks scan they were positive I'd be ok, if it hadn't they'd scan again at 28 weeks. (Which I missed out on, yet happy placenta had moved up)

Im not a big drinker @frustrated and ttc
Ive been told to not have 'yellow' pee and do my upmost best to not have that. Yet I fail more than I would like to admit.
Any fluid I take is ok (of course not an overload of sugary and caffeinated drinks)

  • My doctors are just obsessed with fluid intake. Even my husband started to make fun of it. Whatever problem i come up with, they ask me to increase the fluid intake. And i usually drink 2-3 litres of water everyday. I do not know how i can drink more water.
  • @tvh1982 my OB said that it's still early to determine if I have placenta previa. Right now he said it looks to be low in the uterus (hence possible causes for the bleeding I had a few weeks ago) but we'll see how it's developing at my anatomy scan. If it's still low, there is high chance it'll develop into previa, which means I will need a c section. But because it's still early, it might just grow in it's right place and not block anything so I can deliver vaginally.

I also drink a lot of water, as every symptom I've had the first question my OB asked was if I was staying really hydrated. I have a 24oz water bottle on my desk at work and drink at least 3 of those while I'm here. Then I drink about 2 more at home. I try not to drink too close to bed time because then I'll be up 5 times a night to pee. But I do notice I feel better when I'm super hydrated.

  • For you ladies who had MS: Did you feel better after throwing up? I'm super nauseous, but I am able to hold back on throwing up (though I could make myself if it would make me feel better). I know for me normally when I get nauseous, I almost always feel better if I just throw up, but that's because it's usually an icky in my stomach, not hormones. Any advice would be appreciated!

  • @AndDM2014 I didn't have a ton of MS, but throwing up when I needed to definitely helped. Not as much as say, when you've had too much to drink or you have the flu, but it does help release some of the pressure. Plus I've noticed if I stop my gag reflux, then it's more sensitive and I'm more likely to choke/gag again. In the advice my doc gave me with my "welcome" packet, it definitely said to puke if you need to puke. It's so not fun though. :( Hope you feel better soon!

  • For me it helped right there and then, but that was because most of the time I hadn't anything to throw up which made it worse.
I did try to stop it in the beginning, as I was hoping to keep as much nutrition inside, but getting it out would give me a relief for a little bit until my next session of feeling sick.
I did have HG, so I was a little extreme with the nausea.
Hope your MS passes by soon @AandDM2014

  • @frustrated and ttc - my OB wanted me to drink a gallon of water a day. I typically get at least 100 ounces. I definitely feel better when I'm hydrated though. I live in Phoenix though where all summer it was at least 105-110 outside so staying hydrated was extra important.

@AandDM2014 - I didn't have much ms either but I did feel better after I threw up.

  • @aanddm2014 I had pretty horrible nausea and I would say sometimes throwing up made things better ... Sometimes it wouldn't :( I made sure to keep a loaf of bread with me most of the time and that seemed to help to eat little bits of it . I also tried chewing ginger candies . If you don't mind the flavor and texture of them I would give that a shot ! sorry you don't feel well :(
