  • Thanks for the pee-avoidance advice! He has a tendency to wait until I'm putting the new diaper on to pee... He's a little stinker like that. I'll try blowing on him next time - I have a feeling that will do the trick!

  • @kwilliams3402 our LO has hiccups all the time a well! Our pediatrician said it's total normal and that it bothers is more than it bothers the baby. Sometime when the stomach stretches after a feeding it can stimulate a nerve that runs along side of the stomach called the vagus nerve which triggers hiccups! I found that interesting. They said sucking on a pacifier can help
Glad we're not the only ones!!
  • @kwilliams3402  LO has hiccups at least once a day. Gripe Water takes care of it almost immediately for us.

  • @kwilliams3402 my baby has the hiccups all the time it seems! They are super cute but they keep him awake and also cause more spitting up, ugh!
  • @ginger819 I've heard great things about samsung's monitors. I have the Motorola video monitor with two cameras and wouldn't recommend it. Parent monitor never stays charged and their customer service is terrible. We've had several things break in the less than 2 years we've had it. We currently have our monitor all taped up all wonky so it will stay dome charged. So bad. We are considering new options at this point.

  • @skelly1990 thank you!! I read that it is fairly common but you never know. She just sounds like she struggles sometimes at night so I get a little worried.

  • @ginger819 we have an infant optics system i love. You can talk through it to the kiddo.
  • DH and I have been putting a nightgown/sleeper on DD in the evenings for sleep. But I'm starting to wonder why? We Swaddle her and tuck with a blanket her feet in. Changing her in the middle of the night with just a onesie is so much easier. Are we morons? Or do you think putting a footed sleeper on her at night helps with a night time routine? God I'm tired.

  • @ginger819 we have a Samsung safeview that we bought 2 years ago when DD was born, and we purchased the second camera for this baby. It has the two-way talk feature but no temp. I've been really happy with it, but the night-vision picture can be a little granular.

I think I like DD in sleepers because I personally find them cute more than any other reasons...I have like 100 sleepers in the cart right now from Carter's. There's something comforting about a baby in her super soft sleeper. Does she enjoy being in it as much as I enjoy her in it? That I'm not too sure...

Anyone have a two camera monitor system that they like? We ordered one to upgrade our old one camera one, but don't like it and are going to order something else. We would like two way talk and the temperature to show, but could live without the temp. I really don't want to order another one we don't like.
We have a Motorola one. The exact model is discountinued but it has the features you are looking for. I'm sure there's a new model that's similar.
  • Is anyone else's baby very warm, all the time? No fever, but this 11 lb 3.5 week old baby boy of mine is a little hot water bottle, all the time. He spent time in the NICU when he first arrived for some tummy issues, and we even had to bring in muslin blankets to swaddle him (he'd wear that and a diaper) because he got too warm! He lives in onesies and muslin swaddles at home now. I have yet to put any of the cute sleepers on him that we got, and I don't even bother with socks! We're in Texas and it's hot out, but we keep the house about 72.
My little guy is very warm all the time too. We are in Georgia, on a good early morning we may start off in the 70s outside. Smh. I keep him in a diaper and tee-shirt, the shirts are very breathable so he doesn't sweat as much as he used too, but when I swaddle him then I go to check on him his whole back his soaked in sweat sometimes...at first I thought it was pee, but it wasn't. I'm not sure when to start swaddling or putting him on real sleepers yet, but I'll ask at his 2 week check up.
  • Is two weeks too early to just let them cry it out a bit??? I get so frustrated sometimes, I make sure he's fed, burped, changed, I try swaddling him, walking around with him or simply rocking him in my arms...nothing really works anymore he's just fussy.

We are at this phase too at 20 days in. It sucks.  The only way I can get her down sometimes is taking her into a dark room (she gets overstimulated and won't sleep), giving her a paci, swaddling her in one of the Velcro swaddle me things, and rocking her above our white noise machine. Like right above it while it's on the louder setting. Sometimes she fights me for twenty minutes, but eventually gives up. I make sure to keep her legs tucked up under my arm too so she can't get those kicking. The sound machine we have is called DOHM. It has been a life saver. And when that all doesn't work I take her for a car ride.

We do the same thing. I'm sure the our little ones can't tell when they've worn the same outfit for 12 hours straight like we can but then again maybe they can. And it's like pjs to me. Some days I even just switch him from one gown to another. At this age unless we are leaving the house I don't see the point in adding any fuss into their world and the gowns are so easy! Obviously the girl gowns are so much cuter. And Carters had the most precious prints this past season. I was in love with them. I did manage to get some super cute boy ones though, so I'm not complaining. And after I so effortlessly dress him after a bath or whatever I'm really not complaining. I'm just right there with you and your DH every night with the same routine lol.

Lol the first two weeks home with this little guy he peed all over me constantly!!! You learn to change those diapers quick. Or he gets used to being changed. Something happens because it happened so many times!!!

You're not supposed to let them cry it out this early because they are learning to trust that someone will take care of them, etc. but that being said, if you need a few minutes, as long as he is in a safe place then put him down and take a breather!  I let A cry while I finished my shower the other day.
  • @MrsEWilson When baby boy is inconsolable, we have also found that the white noise machine on super loud setting does the trick.  Like right near his face.

    Sorry, baby eardrums??

I've heard it does but our kiddo is so warm natured that we stick with onesie and swaddle. I'd go more by what is needed to keep baby comfortable at this point.

We're letting our baby cry for as many weeks as he is old, as long as he's been fed and changed, etc and we know he has no real complaints.
  • @PeachGal23 @sbelle474 @justaudrey. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll look into those.
  • @midwestbaby DS has only worn onsies at this point. Occasionally I'll put pants on him too, but in the swaddle, I stick with just a onsie.

I do bathe him and change him into a new onsie before "bed", around 7:00, but I think the bath is more the routine than the clothes.

  • Any suggestions for dry skin?? J has super dry skin especially around his eyes and nose. We've been using the Aveeno baby but it doesn't seem to be helping.

The Halo Muslin swaddles have been the key for us! He got too hot in the cotton other brands and the NICU nurses made us stop using them during his short stay!

Have you tried aquaphor or Eucerin? Both worked for DDs skin best when we had any issues.
  • @jacmkelley I haven't tried either of them but I'm definitely going to, thanks.
  • @BrunetteBabe722 We gently exfoliate with the washcloth during bath time and that helps a lot. I second the aquaphor though! It's the best!

  • @BrunetteBabe722 I use coconut oil and Burts bees lotion. But I try not to use lotion too much, do coconut oil we use more often. Especially for cradle cap. Levi is just starting to get that.
  • So baby boy has a diaper rash because he has to be on antibiotics for an infected tear duct. I'm less than thrilled that he has to take them but our Doctor insisted he needed the shot and oral medicine. Anyway, the medicine has caused him to have a terrible reaction. What do you guys recommend?

We've tried Aveeno's bum cream, Boudreux's paste and a homemade mix of coconut oil with lavender and tea tree essential oil. Nothing seems to be cutting it.

  • Had our first busy day of running around for 4 hours. Took baby out to feed him at lunch, and that was it. It feels so good to finally be home cuddling with him on the couch. I didn't realize it would only take 4 hours to miss that! What am I going to do on Wednesday when I actually leave him with a sitter?!
  • @LWC1112 We love Aquaphor! Give that a try. I hope it clears up soon.

We have been using triple paste. It cleared up DDs reaction to the Huggies diapers from the hospital.

Second this. We used Aquaphor and it cleared up within a day or two (baby had a bad case of diaper rash from wipes per ped's observation).
  • @LWC1112 open air naked time?
  • @texasmama2014 we've never done that. How long? Like 15 to 20 minutes or does it need to be an hour or so?

Thanks!! My mother bought LO some today, he was more relaxed during his nap.

If he's on antibiotics, it could be a yeast infection and need antifungal cream. If the aquaphor doesn't work you may need a prescription

  • Thanks @cait5413 we go to the doctor tomorrow but I may call in for one today. It all started when the antibiotics started so it most likely is.

We have had a lot of success with California Baby diaper rash cream. It seems to be mostly natural and it seems to work fast. It's a little pricey but a small amount goes a long way.

Aquaphor. I honestly hate using anything else. I feel like they all just irritate things more.

I hope it clears up ASAP!! Poor baby!
