@izzetoot - Taken baby wipe and run it over LO's back, chest or cheek. The chill wakes them up. Not very nice I know, but it's certainly effective. Playing with their feet sometimes helps too. Definitely agree with @Sporty1216 though....getting them undressed generally really helps.
As far as pumping, I've been told that it's good to do right after feeding LO because you're body is already stimulated. Sometimes it works for me, other times not, TBH.
@izzetoot We lost the latch when we introduced the bottle, but LO will nibble occasionally on the boob. We're exclusively feeding breastmilk so I am pumping every 3-5 hours and I have an excessive supply at the moment. Our freezer is getting full and I don't know what to do with the excess...but I have been advised to keep the milk just in case my supply decreases. Per the lactation nurses, pumping will increase your supply..
How frequently are you all bathing the newborns? We've been advised to do a sponge bath only during the first few weeks and with warm water only. I was getting a little stressed about trying to squeeze a bath in during the evenings before bed, but read that I can just give her one in the morning. In the evenings, LO is sleepy so the thought of rousing her for a bath doesn't sit well with me...but maybe it's okay so we can get a routine going?? (Her cord has dropped and is healing nicely.)
@frogdog06 I have a TON of breastmilk in the freezer but now Fin is eating so much that I had to thaw my first bag in fear of not being able to keep up with him! I usually pump for his next meal if that makes sense. I need to step up my milk production game and enlist some gatorade or something because this kid is sucking me dry, literally! I definitely say keep the milk just in case.

Hospital told me tonight 2-3 days with mild soap. No lotion but oils instead
@frogdog06 In risk of sounding un-hygienic...I haven't submerged Fin in water yet though his body is ready. He gets a washcloth sponge bath every couple of days. He seems and smells pretty clean so I'm not too worried about bath time yet. I see the benefits of making it part of a bed time routine though. However, he doesn't seem ready for a routine quite yet. I think his (and my) days just blend together right now. I am trying to do the dim lighting, sound machine, swaddle, etc at night though to help distinguish day and night but honestly haven't seen any difference in his behavior quite yet!
@frogdog06 - we only bathed LO once a week or so and did a lot of sponge baths at first. He loves baths and they don't work as part of bedtime for us since they wake him up still at 2, so he still only bathes a couple of times a week or as needed.
We haven't bathed Monte yet but I have given him a few wipe downs with baby wipes when I'm changing his clothes. He's 12 days old today. He also had ear molds attached a few days ago and will wear them for up to 6 weeks and pedi said to avoid full on baths till they're off which makes me think it's ok to do sponge baths only for the first 6 weeks.
@asht@mom2adoodle@izzetoot@Sporty1216 Whew, I thought I was being a bad mama by not giving her a bath. I think we'll stick to sponge baths for the time being (she's 17 days old today) as I don't think she's dirty, per se. I feel better with a washcloth and warm water wipe down versus a "submerge" type bath.
@mom2adoodle I think we have a slight routine down. LO is much more awake during the day time when we are downstairs with sunlight filtering into the living room. At night, we keep things really, really dim, swaddle her up, and use a sound machine. Keep going at it, and I think little Fin will catch on.
Ahh, other question. We use the Zoli B to pare down her sharp nails, but I am starting to see hangnails on her fingers. How have you all been cutting their nails and addressing the hangnails?? The Zoli B works great in that there is no cutting involved, but does nothing for the hangnails.
With my last baby, I gave him full baths right away (first in the hospital and then every few days after that). In France, they don't wait until the cord falls off. His came off on day 6, even with the baths. He loved being submerged in water...I think it reminded him of the womb. He just floated in the big tub while I supported his head. It was pretty cool. Planning to do the same with this one.
Ditto @pizzaandwine, we started baths as soon as his cord fell off though. He loved them (still does) and it would be the one thing to calm him down if he was fuzzy and nothing else worked. But I also don't think anything bad will happen if you wait, it's all about what you prefer.
So the recommended room temperature for a baby is approximately 68F - 72F...I find this really, really cold! Do you all adhere to this? We keep it around 76F...
@frogdog06 We've got the AC set at 72 for the summer. My almost 2 year old is wearing a long sleeved pajama top with pants, and he has a blanket, but I don't think he really uses it yet. For awhile, I didn't think his room was cool enough, so he was wearing a short sleeved pj top with a sleep sack, and he was fine in that. I think we used to keep it around 74, and that was fine. Do you have a monitor that shows the actual temp in baby's room? I know ours is way different than what the thermostat says.
@pizzaandwine LO is only 3 weeks old so she sleeps in our room. We purchased an atomic clock with temperature gauge for our bedroom and have the same for our living room. However, I would like any recommendations for one for her nursery - for a future transition.
@mom2adoodle and @frogdog06 We've got the Infant optics DXR-8. We just bought a second camera to use it with the new baby. We had the Lorex Sweet Peek, which could play music too, and that was a cool feature, but the night vision was so bad that we couldn't even see the baby, so we shelled out for a new one.
Using a VTech monitor this time around that also has temp. My toddler's room has been mid/high 70s lately and he sleeps just fine in either shorts/tshirt pajames if it's near 80 or long pants and sleeves if it's lower. We keep our house upper 60s in the winter and baby never had trouble sleeping in a footie pajama and swaddled.

are you liking that monitor? I'm about to go buy it if you do!
@MrsVoorhees - I really do like it. We just installed camera #2 this week and of course, haven't really tried it out yet with both, but as for Emmett - picture looks good, sound comes across clearly, has quite a few sensitivity settings (I'll set really high for Baby and really low for Emmett.. I don't need to hear all of his little toddler noises throughout the night). Overnight we'll need to "patrol" between the 2 cameras, so it will switch coverage back and forth and only pick up noise on the camera it's accessing.. I think it does so every 10 seconds or so, which seems really reasonable (and we'd probably hear baby before that anyway, all bedrooms are on the 2nd floor).
I use it on the mode where the screen is turned off until the camera makes enough noise to kick it on.. which is my favorite. So far the battery has been really good, lasts a 3 hour nap and a few hours in the evening before we go up to bed ourselves and plug it back in.
frogdog06 I have asked my doctor and I also asked this in a class and everyone has told me, whatever temperature you are comfortable at. We keep our house at 76 at night and 77 during the day. She sleeps in a light swaddle blanket and a onesie and seems very comfortable and not hot.

Also chiming in about the vtech monitor. We got ours from SAMs and it was a slammin deal (like $90) and I was doubtful it would work well, but it's been over a year and the thing is still kickin (knocks on all wood). I'm waiting for the second camera to go on Amazon again so I can get my completion discount
@kosmo86 Thanks, that makes me feel better. We average 75-77F here in California (and it will likely remain about the same through October). We just have LO in a onesie and A&A swaddle blanket. Sometimes socks if needed, but no beanie/hat/thing.
