  • Yep, I started to get leg cramps yesterday after an extra long day at work. I guess I need to up the water intake. Also dry heaving this morning was awesome. I peed all over the bath mat because I didn't have time to go to the restroom yet. Now I have to wash the rug. Pregnancy is so glamorous.
  • I'm struggling with water, @teach123. I feel like I drink a decent amount (probably not enough still, I'm guessing), but I am always thirsty! And I'm just so sick of water. My doctor said even if you're inside all day, the heat is dehydrating. And where I am, it is constantly 100s or so. I need to make a pitcher of water with fruit in it. Just been so tired after work.
  • @Teach123 been there, that's so annoying. There was a lot of frantic ripping pants off and throwing towels on the floor before throwing up during the worst of the MS but there were plenty of times that didn't happen and I ended up with pee all over the floor and myself. I'd love to stop coughing/sneezing and peeing. That'd be fantastic.
  • Oy vey this is a new one for me. Is anyone else experiencing pinching type pain in the butthole-ish area when they walk? Does anyone know what this is? Is it gas? A nerve thing? I haven't had any potty problems that would cause a hemorrhoid so I don't think that's it. It's not super painful but It's definitely not my favorite sensation lol

  • @ceclarlinetlo sciatic nerve maybe? That sounds miserable but I can't say I've ever had it.
  • Does anyone else have horrible pregnancy insomnia? I have no trouble falling asleep, but I wake up every night around 3 or 4 and am up for hours and hours. So many thoughts racing through my head and pre-baby to-do list items (which I know will all get done in time! so why am I freaking?!). I am very anti drugs/medicine (they just don't normally work with my body and make me feel worse), but I need to function like a normal human. Anyone take any pregnancy safe sleeping meds? Or have any advice?
  • @ceclarlinetlo a pinching sensation sounds like a nerve thing maybe. I also think hemmroids can come about even if you're not straining, etc., so I guess I wouldn't rule that out either. Sorry you're experiencing that. Sounds uncomfortable.

This is me. Sometimes I can fall back asleep easily, but at least a couple times a week (including this morning) I don't. Occasionally I feel hungry when I wake up, and it helps if I eat something small, like a banana.

I had trouble with insomnia on and off before I was pregnant, but I've never been into taking meds either, so don't have much to offer on that front. If your mind is racing you could try a simple meditation. Or sometimes I just put on a random, semi-boring podcast and the sound eventually lulls me to sleep. My last resort is turning on the tv - preferably something I've seen before and that is just interesting enough to distract me but not keep me riveted and awake. I know that's not really what you're supposed to do in the middle of the night, but for better or worse it does usually put me to sleep.
  • @KRB22 glad to hear i'm not alone--and I'm sorry you're going through this, too. Sounds like we were both up from the night through this morning. I started dusting my house because I couldn't sit in bed any longer and my husband thought I lost my mind (i mean, I totally have, I was dusting my house at 4:30 am).

I did find myself a little hungry when I woke up, but I ignored it. I'll try to eat a snack next time. I honestly might take tylenol PM tonight because I need a decent nights sleep.

I like your thought on meditation, too. I told myself today in the wee hours that I'm definitely going to start prenatal yoga this weekend so I can work on my stress reduction, so hopefully that helps, too. I know it's a stressful time in life, but I don't feel stressed! obviously I am, though, if I can't sleep. sigh.

Anyways, thank you for the advice!!

@newyearsbaby5 yep, I've been up since about 330 AM today. After I kicked my husband out of the bed - he snores and eventually got sick of me telling him to roll over - I watched tv for a bit and then finally got up at 6 and made a smoothie. I've never been a middle of the night eater and initially resisted getting up to snack, but I've realized its better to just bite the bullet and put something in my stomach and have a shot at some more sleep.

Also, I've always been told that waking up at that hour is generally due to stress and/or anxiety. I don't feel particularly stressed right now either, but I guess there's still a lot on my mind.

And yes, good call on prenatal yoga! Sometimes the breath work alone is enough to curb a racing mind.

ETA: the other possibility is it's just your body's way of preparing you for when baby is here and it'll be a while before you get a night of uninterrupted sleep. This is what several of my mom friends have said when I mention I have trouble sleeping sometimes :)
    AND
Tylenol makes something called Simply Sleep, which I believe is Tylenol PM without the painkiller component. Not totally sure if it's ok during pregnancy, but might be worth looking into.
  • @KRB22 it's funny you say that about our bodies preparing us for sleepless nights. i'm typically a raging b*tch on no sleep, but with how many nights of poor sleep i've had, i've kind of learned to cope with it/be a normal human being. perhaps baby has a plan to make sure mom is nice to dad when he arrives since he knows how scary I can be on no sleep :)
  • Worst leg cramp of my life in the middle of the night last night. Wow. Also, the discharge is insane.
Omg! The discharge!! I constantly feel like I'm wetting myself. It's so annoying. And, TMI, but don't get me started on "sexy time" it's like a freaking waterfall......

  • This really isn't a pregnancy symptom, but pregnancy is making it so much worse because I can't take anything that will help.

I have a terrible head cold. My sinuses are so full of snot that I can't breathe at all. I feel like my heads going to explode. This came on suddenly. It kept getting worse yesterday. I pretty much sat up all night last night because I can't breathe through my mouth when I sleep.

    I feel terrible.

    Yes and yes!

I noticed that I've been getting leg/foot cramps so much more frequently than before! Before it was would be like months or years in between and now I've had them at least 5 times and if I don't have a full on cramp, I can feel it starting and I have to try to find a position to prevent it from becoming a full blown cramp! At first I thought I was going crazy then I literally just looked it up today and apparently its a thing that happens in pregnancy! AS IF WE DON'T HAVE ENOUGH TO DEAL WITH ALREADY

and the discharge too! TMI but DH now thinks I'm "wet" all the time now lolol he wishes!! ITS NOT THE SAME

  • Wow. Afrin is strong stuff. It always gives me a headache when I use it. I wonder if other nose sprays would work too? The only thing on my approved list was Claritin which did nothing since this  isn't an allergy problem and I really have a cold. I guess I need to call and see if there is anything else I could use. I also have s list somewhere from my last OB, and it seemed like there were more approved medications on it. I should dig that up.
  • @Teach123 Definitely double check with your doctor. I was complaining about how I had a cold to my doctor (a few weeks ago) and he listed a few different cold medicines I could have taken when I was sick. I can't remember them right now but I was like why didn't I call you?! Also warm compresses, even a towel run under warm water, left on my nose/cheeks for a little while helped to break up the stuffiness, so I could get a few hours of sleep at night. Feel better soon!
  • Hi late to the symptoms party but----- (TMI) I am sooooooo constipated you guys AND when I pee, I feel like I can't get it all out. I feel so full/gassy down there, it is really uncomfortable. I just want to feel "empty."

Also, this is a more superficial symptom, but my face is over producing oil like crazy (very not normal for me, I have "normal" type skin, maybe even a little dry!) and by the end of the day my makeup looks like it is glistening. I had to buy those little oil absorbing wipes, haha!

  • @nolemama24 if you have been test for a UTI and its negative then I have a solution to the never empty bladder that works 75% of the time for me - I put my feet up on the lid of my bathroom trash can so I am basically squatting even though I am sitting down. If you haven't been tested for a UTI recently ask your doctor about it. I've been fighting that fight for months now - it's awful. I'm sorry your experiencing it too

  • My midwife suggested the netti pot for sinus issues. I used it when I was sick about a month ago, it cleared me up pretty good. Just be sure to have your head tilted waaay forward. Or else it'll drain in youe throat... which for pregnant women who are gag prone is not a good thing.... lol

  • I was seriously coming on here just to complain about my sinuses right now. My nose is full of snot and its stuffy and its just like my normal fall allergies times a bajillion. Doc says Benadryl is ok so I'm trying that, but I have to work tomorrow so I really hope I'm not groggy in the morning. However some sleep is better than none.

  • @ceclarlinetlo  I've been off and on with the bananas.  I like them a lot, but it's really hard for me to figure out what is contributing to constipation issues.  I think it's different for everyone, but they tend to be binding for me.  But then again, I haven't had as many this week and I'm just as constipated so.....yeah.  Maybe I will just start eating them again.

I find that I need to have at least 100 oz. of water a day or the leg cramps are worse and even at 100 oz. of water, I'm generally still thirsty.
  • Dear ladies, does anyone have advice for when you suddenly get winded or experience sudden fatigue?  Has this happened to you all?  I am nearly 21 weeks and was told my baby boy is in the 88th percentile; my bump feels heavy. I have found myself getting winded when walking, so I try to take breaks, sit down, or take Uber when necessary.  I can't stand up for more than 10 minutes either. I teach for about 3 hours at a time, and I found myself getting fatigue while teaching; I tried to drink something with sugar to help.  Has anyone experienced this, and what works for you? (I also posted this on another thread, but I was advised to re-post here to get more feedback.)
  • @michellemikeliu during my first pregnancy they found my iron was really low which contributed to me being tired, having no energy and constantly feeling like I couldn't do something for more than 10 minutes without having to stop. I added in an iron supplement and it helped greatly. This pregnancy I took the supplement from the beginning and while I still have the typical tiredness and lack of energy/fatigue that comes with pregnancy, it's not as bad as with my first. Might be worth asking your dr about. I also try and always have snacks with me to help keep my energy up. Not sure about the weather where you are, but I know the heat has been pretty brutal in most of the US. Hopefully some cooler Fall weather will bring relief to all of us soon! These summer months are the worst!

  • I woke up this morning with two huge new blue veins that run from my neckline, across my boobs, to my stomach. Who are these people who look so flawless and beautiful during pregnancy?!
  • My gums hurt. For the past week they have been sooooo sensitive when I brush and stay sore long after. I had no idea this was a pregnancy thing, I didn't have this issue with my first at all.  I'm also overdue for my six-month cleaning so maybe this will get my ass in gear. Maybe switch to a softer bristle?

  • TMI so much drainage. I feel bad but I never wanna have sex, it just doesn't set the mood.
  • @KAShock I just had a dentist appt the other day and they told me when you're pregnant you should get more cleanings because your teeth and gums are more susceptible to gunk and stuff and actually found out that my insurance covers it! So I go back in 3 months and then it'll be back to normal. Just something to look into. (Oh and they're extra gentle when you're pregnant due to sensitivity too)

  • I'm super late to this thread, but I come with a stupid question. What is the correct way to stand up from sitting on the floor once you've gotten large enough that your center of gravity/balance is all out of whack? I've been cleaning walls and baseboards all last night and all day today and I just don't know how to stand up anymore without someone helping me or coming very close to hurting myself falling back down.

I know it's only going to get worse from here but sure there's some way I can finish cleaning all of these baseboards without killing myself, right? I still have a whole second floor to go :|
  • I had a horrible bout of dizziness this morning. It lasted 3 hours and I tried everything to alleviate it (laying left side, drinking fluids, eating, etc). I didn't feel alarmed enough at the time to call the weekend on call doctor, because I know dizziness can be normal, but I think I'm going to call tomorrow morning and ask when it becomes a concern. 3 hours seems like a long time and I felt like my vision was blurry. I wear glasses but couldn't focus with them on.

  • @kurtni if you vision was blurry definitely call your doctor and tell them.
