I'm afraid of having placenta previa again. And miscarrying. Most of all I'm afraid of getting PPD again. It was an awful spiral that was absolutely horrible and I don't want to go through it again.
shoegirl1975@kcasset@belocin .....Ladies i'm not sure if it will calm your fears but I spoke to my DR about Zika today. He says although it is serious if you are infected, he really doesn't think we even have much to worry about in Central Florida. He said obviously going camping in the woods is not a good idea and no travel to other countries, but otherwise just be cautions.
Still not the best circumstances if you live nearby, but it did ease my fears a little... didn't know if it would ease yours any as well
I do have some labor related fears, as I will have to have a C section this time around.
However, my main pregnancy related fear currently is Zika. I live in central florida and there have been confirmed cases of Zika that have not been travel related in Miami. That's about 4 hours south of me, but its till pretty scary. My fiance and my mom have basically banned me from going outside in the evening when you're most likely to get bit.
My OB told me that the mosquitoes that carry Zika like to bite during the day. So you need to spray yourself anytime you leave the house.
I'm so afraid of having another traumatic delivery! I had a lot of unexpected complications and then ended up with a very scary Csection. Thankfully our baby was fine, but DH and I were left pretty traumatized. Really hoping for a smoother, less painful RCS!
Last pregnancy, I had extremely high amniotic fluid. I was at risk of the baby coming down onto the umbilical cord and dying if my water broke on its own. My OB said since I had high amniotic fluid last time, I will most likely have it again. My chances of having a stillborn increase because if this. I am terrified of my water breaking on my own and being alone when it happens.
@blackasnight That sounds really scary! Are you able to make arrangements so you won't be on your own during the last weeks, or can they schedule an induction a couple days early to reduce the chance of your water breaking on its own?
I think I'm more afraid right now about everything being okay with the baby. My moms a nurse for an OBGYN's office and she's reassured me a lot!
As far as delivery I'm terrified I'll poop on the table. It's silly, I know, but its one of my fears. Also I've never given birth or seen anyone give birth other than on tv, so I'm also just nervous about the whole process.. Pretty much having a baby is turning me into a nervous wreck! (But I wouldn't change it for the world).

I will most likely be induced at 39 weeks again (OB said it was very unlikely I would make it past that anyway with my history of having big babies). Last pregnancy, I had multiple ultrasounds during the third trimester to make sure baby was okay and to keep measuring the fluid. My OB broke my water after I was induced at the hospital and it was crazy how much fluid came out. The nurse was shocked. It took 12 big towels to clean it all up. She said normally it only takes about 3-4.
I am going to just try and take it easy again during the last few weeks. I know that is going to be harder with a toddler who likes to rough house.
I'm afraid of delivering in a hospital. I have had one hospital birth and one home water birth. The difference was night and day! I loved my home birth and my two midwives. This time, I'll be doing midwives in a hospital as I'm at an increased risk of hemorrhaging. My fear is that my wishes won't be respected and I won't be allowed to listen to my body as much as I could at home.
And ladies... You probably did and will poop hehe. We're just very skilled at moving the dirty underpad away before the smell hits your face ;D

Are there midwives in your area? Here, midwives are highly trained professionals that work with the hospitals and OBGYNs. I was allowed to refuse dilation checks and/or do them myself with my last delivery. You can create a really strong connection with your midwife, too. They take time to really talk with you so you build a solid relationship, which might make it easier for you to allow for checks.

First time I around I was really nervous but it did seem to just happen naturally, I don't know if I have any fears this time around. Maybe that it won't be as easy as it was last time.
This was my first thought when trying to come up with a response. Not that it was easy, but it was uncomplicated and went smoothly. I was induced, so we took our time getting to the hospital, and we knew what was going on. I had an ultrasound the day I checked into the hospital, and they could see DS's cord draped around his neck/shoulders. That caused a little concern for a few minutes about halfway through labor, but they were able to reposition me and keep things going well. I'm grateful it only took 20 minutes of pushing before he popped out. I had an episiotomy, but it wasn't a problem for me at all.
One of my good friends had a similar experience with her first birth, but a wildy different with her second. She labored at home about 2-3 hours, per her OB's instruction, but her labor progressed so fast, she almost didn't make it to the hospital in time. I think she said from the time she sat down on the hospital bed to when the baby was out was like 6 minutes. That scenario kind of scares me.
@nursejoc, thanks for the tip! We do have midwives here but there is such a shortage that it's almost impossible to get one if you haven't used one in the past. I do have a doula, who is extremely supportive. She was there for my last delivery and was a very good advocate for me. I'm hoping when I meet with her for this baby, that she and I can come up with some coping strategies or a game plan to minimize the amount of checks I need.
I'm nervous about everything....even the whole having a baby. I am looking forward to the baby but at the same time I'm nervous about all of the changes. I also want a natural birth and would love to do the whole midwife home birth thing but that is just not something my DH is ever going to be comfortable with. I hope my OBGYN is supportive of my crunchiness.
I had a super easy delivery with DS and a super easy recovery, but I'm scared that I won't get my epidural in time because even with my first labour was fast and I am NOT prepared to go unmedicated no matter how many ladies tell me it's 'natural' and what our bodies are 'designed to do'.
I'm terrified of a mc... I frequently go to the restroom throughout the day not bc I need to but bc I want to check if I'm bleeding. I'm scared of the epidural, but also labor without it, gestational diabetes and post partum depression. (I'm a closet hypochondriac)
I fear that I won't have the same nurse during labor as I did in October. She was seriously amazing even though I called her a bunch of bad names, she got my son to come out after being in labor for 36 hours. I also fear my placenta won't detach again and the Dr will have to go in manually again. Luckily she had tiny arms and hands but having someone shove their arm elbow deep in your vag is way worse than childbirth and I went natural!
I am doing my best not to worry, but I am human after all. Sorry so long!!
My delivery with DS was a scary, unexpected, and worrisome event for me. After being induced, and finally progressing, the dr broke my water after the epidural. I then went pretty quickly from a 5 to a 10, about 1 1/2 hours. They instructed me to push, but baby had his head tilted, which was keeping him from coming down as easily as he should have. Both of our stats were dropping every push so they only let me push every other contraction. (oh my, that is nearly impossible) I finally got a good push in that moved DS down, and then again (etc...) when his head came out, the dr stated he has a cleft lip. This was totally unexpected and not seen on the ultrasounds (although very prominent). Finally DS was out but they took him so quickly because of the unexpected cleft lip and palate. I got a 3rd degree tear, which I felt (thank goodness not a lot) happen. My Dr took 45 mins to stitch while thinking it was appropriate to make sarcastic jokes about. There were so many people in the room checking on DS that it was kind of crazy and overwhelming for a while. I am just nervous something will be missed again! (But I did switch my Dr, and that has eased my mind a bit.)
After all that, we had to figure out how to feed DS and the bottle they had us use, made me feel like a mom failure.
HOWEVER I will say that DS is thriving after 4 surgeries and lots of appointments! It was a tough time, but I feel so blessed that I get to be this sweet, smiley baby boy's mommy! Our journey as Mother and Son has made me grow so much and shown me just how strong I really am! For that, I am thankful!
@kcasset I breastfed for about two months after my c-section. I would suggest putting a pillow between your scar and the baby. Any pillow works great but I had a knock off boppy pillow that kept pain off me.
@kcasset oh duh, you're worried about pain. It was so incredibly not an issue for me with a boppy pillow that I didn't even put two and two together there. Oops! But I hope that relieves some of your fears!
I'm afraid of tearing and the recovery. I think it was a bump community post I was reading where FTM could ask questions about labor and delivery. One of the questions was about tearing and one woman said that not only did she tear down, but she tore up as well. I didn't even know that was a thing, and I think that has become my worst fear.

Last time I did not tear down... i tore up (but when you tear up its more on the inside, not as external as some of the other tearing you can have) ... I just used the little water bottle they give you to squeeze warm water on your bits when you go pee and all was well. I used the water for about a week... after that I was just sore in general.
I'm not really worried about the delivery. Honestly, I am more worried about making it through pregnancy. I hated pretty much every minute of my first pregnancy with DD and this is shaping up to be similar. I am just NOT someone that enjoys being pregnant. I enjoyed the delivery with DD more than the 9 months leading up to it.
I would appreciate having a labor shorter than the 22 hours that my last one was. Honestly, I would be super excited about anything less than 15 hours.

Oh yeas, the hemis, that was the worst! How could I forget that! During the delivery whole hell broke loose and I haven't been the same since. I got them at the very end of my first pregnancy and it wasn't bad until I was in labor for over 36hrs then pushed for over 3. So I'm worried that I'll get them even earlier this time around and won't be able to do a damn thing about it. I was just so swollen down there all together after delivery that I was sore for good 6 weeks after delivery even though I only had a minor tear that barely needed stitches. So I'm nervous what will happen this time around.
I've also developed varicose veins on my right leg about a year ago. It was inevitable since both my parents have them but now I'm worried how bad it will get. I'm wearing a compression sock pretty much all the time. (some 90+ degree days just didn't work for me).
But my baby girl was doing great all of that time so I'm kind of hoping and would like to assume that this baby will be just fine, too!
@mrsstuessy "I hated pretty much every minute of my first pregnancy with DD and this is shaping up to be similar. I am just NOT someone that enjoys being pregnant." Same. I just feel chronically ill the entire time and physically disabled toward the end. Never doing this again.
@ladameperdue and @mrsstuessy guilty here too - really really dislike pregnancy. I feel uncomfortable and out of my skin the whole time. Partially why I'm having trouble really getting excited this time around - last time I kept telling myself "this is the last time you ever have to ___ " to get through it and now here I find myself back at the drawingboard. Can't argue with the results, but I've certainly never glowed!
@Mrsbakes I should be wearing my stockings, but it's just too hot. I'm sure I'll regret it.
Now I know what other women have meant when saying they disliked being pregnant. I never questioned it and knew that I was extremely lucky to have such an easy pregnancy with DD, but I also couldn't really understand what it felt like. I absolutely loved being pregnant with DD. Yes I was super tired at first and had horrible stuffy nose, but I napped when I wanted to. Otherwise I was not sick or nauseous, I was able to eat all kinds of healthy things, I drank tons of water, I did yoga, walked all the time, had great skin and nails and even my lifeless, thin hair got some life and bounce.
Now I just feel like $hit all the time and I am not enjoying this at all.
@Dannylion24 Well I wear my compression sock most of the time, but then I don't move much at all. I sit in the office then I go home and sit some more. If you can at least walk a bit during the day it will also help tons! Another good thing to do is do some "calf" exercise throughout the day. I try to do it while I brush my teeth, just lift yourself up on your tippy toes. I do at least 3 sets of 30 in the morning. (well most mornings) that helps a lot with circulation. But I will be doing a procedure after I deliver. Hope yours aren't painful
@Mrsbakes after I ended up in the ER when a vein ruptured on my ankle I had an ablation procedure done on both legs last summer. I need to call my vascular specialist bc it was completed with the understanding that I was finished having children after my last pregnancy. #5 was a total birth control failure/surprise! I hadn't realized there were calf exercises. Gonna have to google - thanks! I am currently training for a 'fun run' 5k in October so I try to stay as active as possible, but I've been so sick lately I haven't waned to do much of anything.
I am just a ball of nerves leading up to my first u/s Friday...I have been feeling great the last few days, almost no symptoms, and now that is freaking me out...
@kcasset. I couldn't keep up with feeding my daughter after the first month but she was so big and I had no pump. This time I'm making sure to get my pump since I've got reliable insurance now.

That's huge - we were at a University hospital last time so my husband literally just disappeared with my Rx for the pump and 20 minutes later he was back with one. I'm not so sure it will be as smooth this time, so I'm hoping my pump is still working 3 years later.

This!!! so much all of what you said... first pregnancy with DD I loved it. This time around I feel like a bloated miserable cow. Granted I started this pregnancy 20 pounds heavier than last time... that's a whole other can of worms.
I just hope that as I get in to the 2nd Tri I start feeling more happy about being pregnant. I'm only 5 weeks, so it feels like a lifetime away. This is one downfall to finding out so early... i'm feel like i'm basically an elephant and i'm going to be pregnant for a LONG time....
I'm so glad to hear that there are other ladies out there who aren't enjoying this. I was fine until last Sunday and since then I've spent almost every single day in bed sick as a dog and exhausted. I am just keeping my fingers crossed that it will get better.
