FOOTBALL!

Can we talk about some football up in here?! Please tell me we have some ladies who like to watch :) BRING ON ALL THINGS FALL!! I'm still a little sad about not enjoying a delicious beer on Sunday's with H, but that's alright ;)

Anyone play fantasy? I had my first league draft last night and I feel like I got a pretty good team! Then I dreamt that I drafted Mary and Jesus onto my fantasy team... Pregnancy is so weird...

Re: FOOTBALL!

  • I love football. I live pretty close to Vegas so I even bet on the games sometimes. I've actually won a good amount of money when I picked the Patriots to win it all at the beginning of the season. I am a little bummed about no beer but still excited about it. I don't play fantasy but maybe I will this year.

  • I'm a lifelong Packer fan who lives just south of Green Bay. Football is life. Hopefully I'll make it to a couple games this year.

I play fantasy too. Our draft day is still TBA....I'm a terrible commish. Last year our draft was the night I got out of the hospital. That was a bad idea and my team suffered all year. This year I'll be ready!

  • Yes, football season is upon us, ladies!  I am more of an NCAA fan but definitely watch NFL too.  I used to play fantasy and had 3 teams 3 years ago.  That was so hard to manage and last season I had a new baby, so I knew I wouldn't be able to spend much time dealing with my teams so I gave it up.  I do miss it, maybe next year I will join a league again.

  • We *were* New Orleans Saints season ticket holders but we're sidelined from that this year!  We typically go to New Orleans about 6-10 times a year (we used to live there) but since H has a job with a new firm, we don't get to go as much.  We are huge fans though and we go out for all the games we can.  We'll be going to the Saints/Giants game this year in NJ.  I don't play fantasy but H does.

We always joke that the only thing as boring as listening to people talk about their dreams is listening to people talk about their fantasy football drafts!  hahaha.

Any other Saints fans here that are ready to "Stand up and get KRUNK?"!  Hahaha (that's our fight song).
  • I am more into college football because our NFL team (Detroit Lions) sucks pretty bad- I usually go to at least one football at my alma mater Michigan State University each year but last year we went to a basketball game instead. Going to try and convince DH to let us go to our biggest game of the year when we play our rival University of Michigan even though the tickets are pretty expensive for that one.
  • I'm not too hard core about it till post season.  But we always watch the Patriots games with family and friends since we're in New England and up here not cheering them on is basically a sin.
  • Oh thank goodness!  I honestly thought I was the only crazy lady football fan.  ha ha.  My DH is only an Eagles fan.  BLAH!   I'm a hardcore Miami Dolphins fan, but follow all teams because I play fantasy.  I can't wait!  I am also a HUGE CFB fan.  I'm from WV, so I follow WVU, but I also love Clemson (I don't know how that happened).  And then we have to watch PSU because DH is an alum.  I went to University of Delaware, so I follow their small division too.

@KellyT22 My dad is a HUGE Packers fan.

@sgrant432 This is seriously me.  I have to warn my neighbors that I'll get rowdy on Sundays.   ;)

@kjd291 - we may have issues....rivals :)  I'm all for friendly competition.  Miami usually loses anyway.  ha ha

  • I am a lifelong Florida Gator fan! I grew up in the same town as the University of Florida. I have adopted the Eagles as my pro team because that is my DH's team. And for the record Tennessee is not taking the SEC East this year!
  • I'm southern so we've always been more of an SEC family but I'm so ready for football! We have season Ole Miss tickets and I can't wait to get this show on the road! My first maternity clothes purchased were for football games!

@onefootinthebayou LOL! Damn I must be superrrrr boring then  :D being a season ticket holder would be awesome!

@KellyT22 Ohhh no. I'm a Vikings fan by marriage, both mine and H's family haaaate the Packers lol. We actually did go to Lambeau last year though for the Vikings/Packers game and I will say, Packers know how to tailgate! We had a blast :)

@Spartanrd4 I used to only like college football until I got into playing fantasy. I never used to watch NFL games, but having a fantasy team makes it so every game is interesting, which is fun! But I am a U of M fan through and through... I have so many rivals here haha!

So far the two onesies my child has are a UofM onesie and a Wild hockey onesie... clearly our family is out of control with the sports lol
  • Yay!!!  I love CFB most, and then to a lesser extent, NFL. DH and I both met at Baylor and we've been seasons ticket holders for at least 11 years, so we go to all the games.  We've had some pretty horrible things go on lately, so I'm a little less excited than normal, but that's still my school and still my team.

  • @Schumerator Haha, I felt bad after I wrote that b/c I noticed after the fact that you had not only mentioned your dream, but it was a dream about fantasy football!  Sounds so interest....ZZZZzzzzzzzzzzz
     ;)
  • Yes yes yes. Going to do our draft soon. I really need to study up a little, i've been out of the loop.

  • @peony2418 I have a theory that Baylor will hire the Houston coach who's supposed to be up and coming
  • I am a die-hard University of Texas football fan. It's been 10 years since we won a national championship/were actually relevant, but I don't care. I will bleed burnt orange until the day I die! Hook 'Em Horns!!
  • I think a lot of Baylor people want that to happen too @disneybaby84!  He's the top pick of most people I've talked to about it.  I think it depends on what other coaches find themselves on the hot seat come November/December!

  • UO - I hate football and think its boring. I'll only watch the Superbowl and for the commercials. I might pay attention if it's the Patriots playing because I'm in New England.

  • I can't do fantasy but DH loves it, he's usually in 2-3 leagues lol. I only follow our alma mater really and we try to make it to at least one game a season since we graduated since we're only a couple hours away. DH loves the browns too (poor guy) so I'm a sympathetic fan haha.

@RunBooRun Jkkkkk :D I can't relate because I think football is awesome, but I did used to find watching the NFL boring because I didn't care about any of the teams. Also WFFC: I hate the patriots, mostly Tom Brady, even though he's a UofM alum, but I drafted three of their players onto my first team last night, and I'm slightly ashamed about it, but also I feel like I'm going to kick ass, so I'm ok with it.

I cannot STAND Tom Brady, nor the way New Englanders talk about him like he is the messiah!  :(

@Schumerator - college football isn't big here in New England (it's Patriot's or bust). I've just never really understood why anyone gets that excited over sports in general, but I also went to a nerdy engineering school that only has Division III sports.

I do go to the Red Sox every year. I can get behind baseball  much easier than football, but my family is a baseball family. I still get bored after two innings and plan my Fenway time around the food.

That being said - I enjoy playing sports, just not watching them.

  • @RunBooRun I can respect that! I actually have a few very athletic friends who play all kinds of rec sports but just hate watching them. Funny enough, we have one guy in our league who played college football and literally hates watching football on TV lol

    @onefootinthebayou THANK YOOOOOU! He's a whiny baby and I can't stand him!
  • I was raised in New England so Patriots all the way! In general though I hate the way the NFL is run and goodell should be run out of town ...

Luckily I met DH who is a wicked big Florida Gator fan and subsequently now so am I :)@disneybaby84 we're looking pretty decent this year so knock on wood.

Since I can't partake in all the beer I will have to settle for my second favorite football tradition of big hearty breakfasts and college game day mornings. I'm so pumped

hey and lay off Brady! LOL I do hate how he pouts though after getting sacked...get off your ass man
  • As a transplanted New Englander, it's the Patriots all the way!! I have lived in two other cities that have NFL teams and they all hate them. It was especially bad living in Seahawks country when I rocked my Brady jersey at the Super Bowl party for the game that the Seahawks made that unfortunate move and the Pats won. I was the only non-Hawks fan there and as soon as they lost DH whispered to me "I think we should go now" and we quietly made our exit

  • @meq124 my husband decided to invite all non-patriots fans to our house for that Super Bowl ... I thought at least being back in New England I would be safe but military friends mean all kinds of teams... and this little girl kept trying to play dolls with me lol. Not to sound like a bitch but I didn't play with dolls as a kid and certainly did not want to play dolls during the SUPERBOWL!
  • I'm so excited for fall and football.  Lifelong Packer fan here and I can't wait for the season to start!!!

  • We're all about the Niners in this household! They sucked ass last year, which was just plain awful. My husband and I both happened to be Niners fans before we met in college so there was no influence on either of our parts. It was meant to be! I went to Vegas on a girl's trip this past May and met the one and only Jerry Rice. It was the best day ever. I had no idea he'd be at the hotel and I literally just happened to bring my Niners t-shirt to sleep in. I straight up got hit on by Jerry (yes, we're on a first name basis here) and I got a huge signed picture of him and Joe Montana and in the picture that my friend took, he was giving me a kiss. I sent it to husband who was back at home and he was like, what the hell, is that Jerry Rice?! The signed poster was his Father's Day gift. Needless to say, he loved it.
  • @kiyamurph My uncle played with him (Tim McDonald) I wish I appreciated football back then as much as I do now. I didn't even understand the greatness I was watching.
  • We are so pumped for football season in our house!! My husband literally had a countdown going on the chalkboard by our front door!  :D
We are diehard University of Montana football fans and have season tickets and a designated tailgating spot!! Lol Our basement is even covered in UofM Griz decorations! I have to admit that I cried a little bit when my husband bright home his first 6 pack of Oktoberfest the other night... It will totally suck to be sober during football season but on the upside, all our friends have a sober driver!
My husband is also a major Denver Broncos fan so we watch every game and usually go to Denver for at least one game! And we also watch the Jacksonville Jaguar games because one of our really good family friends is on the team! Wow I did not mean to write that much but I am so pumped!!

  • Man, so many Pats fans here! My family are die-hard Eagles fans, and we're still not over the 2005 Superbowl loss to the Pats (we will never be over that). Worst part: I was going to school in Boston and the stupid victory parade marched right thru campus. Salt in an open wound, friends.

Stoked to see so many football fans on this board. I'm ready for some smack talk! ;-)

  • Being from Pittsburgh I was pretty much born into being a Steelers fan as was my husband. It's religion around here! We usually go to one home game a year but I think we will skip that this year. Fall is such a beautiful season in Southwestern Pennsylvania and football just adds to it. I love everything about it!
