TMI - The shaving question

Hope this isn't too TMI/ personal, but can we talk about the shaving question?

I officially can't see, so I'm trying to decide on whether or not it is worth the effort.

im not so much worried about how I look there, but I'm more so concerned about whether or not I want to deal with hair during recovery after baby. Any suggestions from the BTDT moms?

Re: TMI - The shaving question

  • With DS I had DH do it. It was better than I would have done and he didn't do so bad

  • I'm a FTM, so not a BTDT mom... but are we talking legs or nether region?

  • I recommend the beard trimmer part on a men's shaver. Use a hand mirror or ask your partner. It's going to be a patchy job at best.

As for PP: the frontal bush is easy to take care of, but the under carriage will get a bit wild until any stitched areas heal fully.
  • I got a bikini wax a couple weeks ago for the beach, and I think in going to keep it up until the due date.  I don't remember noticing or caring about hair down there during recovery last time though.  I'm mainly only doing the wax because we're going to the pool a lot this summer.

I've been blind shaving, I just feel my way around. I might use a mirror to do a better job closer to my due date.
Same here, too. I also still push my belly in as if suddenly it's going to move out of the way. Not sure why I haven't caught on yet.
@F47 I do the same. Why I think this thing is gonna move out of the way, I don't know!

  • I have and always will get brazilians. 15 min of agony is a month of no shaving.

and wax my legs and eyebrows too. and if I had visible hair anywhere else I would do that too. I am a crazy obsessed waxer lol
  • I shaved (well, DH) my nethers the night before I went into labor with DS. Honestly, I didn't care about hair status during recovery whatsoever.

This. Me too. I actually got laser before my bfp, and had one session left! Then my hair grew back. Ugh. So I got a Brazilian about two months ago and my hair seems to have thinned out down there. My plan is to get another Brazilian in September towards the end of September in prep for the big day.

Funny, I shaved the day I went into labor with DS
  • Another one for blind shaving. I've only had one close call. Thankfully it was minor and non catastrophic.

  • For now, another blind shaving FTW. I'm sure it doesn't take care of every hair but being careful so I don't circumcise myself yet feel comfortable, is more important to me than how it looks. I've been trying to build up the courage to get a Brazilian wax for months, and it seems like a much better way to prep for recovery from my vag getting destroyed...
  • +1 for doing it blindly. I'll admit I'm getting the hang of it. As long as I stay on top of it, its pretty easy. And I definitely try to move my belly and obviously that doesn't work. Duh. LOL.

  • +1 for blind shaving, there was an extensive conversation about waxing not too long ago that pretty much has me sold on the idea though so if the budget allows within the next few weeks, I may go that route. If not, butt crack hair (it's a thing now) and undercarriage will be my priorities. FI will probably be recording the birth, and he IS the type to point out Bushmania if present after the matter, so I'd rather not him give him the opportunity haha
  • I've been using DH's small battery travel buzzer with the guard on it to keep everything under control. Not the greatest but a lot better than it would be otherwise. I'll probably have DH help me shave when labor is near.

  • Blind sweep til i can't handle it. Then  FI does it
  • I use DH beard trimmer to clean up the bigger mess, then blind shave the rest.  I did a wax once many years ago and yea the lady left me bleeding so nope not doing that.

I just let mine go. I don't really GAF. For the legs, I'm still contorting myself in weird ways trying to get all the spots. Then I'll ask hubby to do it.

  • fyi if you guys have a European wax center your first regular bikini wax is free! good way to try it before going for the whole shebang
  • +1 for blind shaving. I use my hands and get it pretty good. I can still manage my legs and hope it stays that way. I think DH would freak if I asked him - mainly because he'd be so scared of cutting me.

  • Add me to shaving blindly. I use DH's beard trimmer for the front and my razor for underneath. Lots of soap and taking my time and so far have had no issues. I had a c-section last time so the hospital trimmed me up for the catheter. Don't remember caring much for recovery, but DD was in the NICU for 13 days and I had my belly incision, so it wasn't high on my list.

  • @von1976 I am with you, if my Dr has not seen a Harry vag in his carrier he has a problem lol. I can't see it I'm not shaving it I'm in enough pain to contort myself to shave stuff that's intended to keep bacteria out of my vag.

  • @CopperBoom86 I just can't imagine asking DH to do it. Seems awkward to me. Hahaha but he should be pretty good at shaving considering he shaves his face everyday, right??

  • +1 for the  blind shaving. Too nervous to ask DH to do it for me!
  • @SpaceBurger - LOL. I used to hide it from my husband because I thought he'd get mad about it. I'd always clean it really well after using it because, well, the carpet matches the drapes, so he'd know immediately if he saw a red hair on it (his hair is jet black). But I finally came clean one day and he said he didn't care as long as I was "clean" down there when I used it.

  • Y'all already know I'm team wax. I've set up my wax appointments up until my due date to make sure im fresh!
  • Props to those of you that let your spouse near that area with a sharp blade!!
  • I'm going blindly now but am going to be setting up a wax appointment soon!

  • This may have already been said, but at the very least try to keep shaved (if thats your thing) when you go into labor. I say this because if you end up having a CS, they may need to shave you. And they will likely do a pretty shoddy job at it. But if you DGAF, then more power to you! I used a mirror in my shower to see what I was doing.

I trim but I have not been able too see anything for a while. It's a bit of a hot mess but I don't really care

  • +1 for using a trimmer with a guard on. I can barely wipe myself anymore, so real shaving is definitely not happening. Personally I'm not interested in being super smooth down there anyway, just tidy and cleaner for labor and recovery.
  • I also don't think I could ask my hubby to shave me. Just  not in my circle of comfort I guess. I keep meaning to go to the dollar store for the right mirror & use my electric trimmer sitting in an empty bathtub, or something. I tried the blind shaving route and it was ok but I was terrified... also hair is growing SO FAST right now, feels like that was just a week ago but it doesn't look like it...
  • Y'all need a TrimStyle.  Seriously magical.
