Trying to Get Pregnant

Weekly Benched / TTA Discussion - Week of August 22

***General TW that this thread can and will mention MC and loss.***

This is a place for those of us who have already started TTC, but have hit a roadblock and are delaying for whatever reason. You can express your thoughts, feelings, and frustrations on not TTC and connect with others who are in the same boat. TTC can be a long journey, and having to wait makes it feel even longer- even if it is for a good reason.  Feel free to resurrect this thread at any point in the week if you have something to say, and treat this like an ongoing conversation.

Benched = involuntarily not NTNP/TTC and are "out of the game," usually due to medical reasons
TTA = avoiding pregnancy by using protection or FAM, usually for non-health-related reasons __________________________________________________________________

  • Are you benched or TTA? Benched - ahhhhhh!!!!  I feel like I'm running in place.

What brings you here? Need to do a hysterosonogram this week for insurance approval for my FET

How long do you think you'll be here? 1 month

How have things been going?  Better this week since AF is winding down and I can finally button my pants again.

Any R/R/CS? Had a 3am wake up call from 2 family members and an emergency alert on my phone for a tornado warning in my town.  Seems reasonable?  No... I live in MA. 'Tis but a gust.  Now I am le tired at work.

  • Are you benched or TTA? ((I am posting here and WTO since I am in both boats)) I suppose I am technically TTA.

What brings you here? Got my IUD out at the beginning of the month, waiting to have my first period so that I know my cycle and it was advised by my OBGYN to wait for my first real cycle.

How long do you think you'll be here? Hopefully not too much longer! - Three weeks have passed and it seems like an eternity. I am not going to do well with the TWW....

How have things been going? Oh just la dee dah...

    Any R/R/CS? Its MONDAY

  • @mokay19 - I'm so sorry for your loss.  I hope being here helps you find an outlet and heal, but you have every right to feel a range of emotions over this and cry as long and hard as you need.  Sending creepy internet hugs your way.

  • @mokay19 I am so incredibly sorry for your loss, and to see you back here with us. Hugs girl. The first couple months after a miscarriage are both emotionally and physically trying. The best advice I can give you is to feel all of those emotions, and cry as much as you need to. You can/should post wherever you feel comfortable. I definitely recommend TTCAL when you're ready. The ladies over there are so supportive and amazing.

Are you benched or TTA?  TTA

    What brings you here?
Honeymoon to a place with active Zika

How long do you think you'll be here? about a month

    How have things been going?
Waiting is hard, especially since FW for this cycle is supposed to start today. I go to PT several times a week for my back and it isn't getting better. I'm trying to focus on that before TTC so I don't go nuts, but I'm getting reminders from the staff about how much worse it will get when I'm pregnant because of how ligaments loosen up and how I need to let them know when we start because they can't do a lot of the procedures because they involve electricity or other waves that can be harmful to a fetus. I did some acupuncture today and he suggested cupping, which was really weird feeling. He said that the ones he uses rarely leave marks, but I told him I have sensitive skin. Now this is how I look!!!

Sorry about our terrible bathroom. We are going to hopefully renovate soon and this is the only way I could get a pic!

Any R/R/CS? Nope. Today's temp is ridiculously low (96.47) and I'm wondering if it's because I misread the thermometer in the dark at 5 am even though I shined the phone light on it and put it in FF right away. It could have been 96.97... When I turned it on, it said 97.7. Then I did it again and got the same followed by Lo. I am only that high post-O and it's about a week too early for that. Of course I don't have a temp for yesterday because we unexpectedly stayed at SIL's house, but I'm doing OPKs and I know the recall temp isn't right.

My word was change since I'm going to change my last name today.  :

What brings you here? Waiting until vacation to start so I do not have any symptoms on vacation if I got pregnant right away

How long do you think you'll be here? 20 more days! (not that I am counting)

How have things been going? Good, except I just started my FW and my lovely husband is trying to get me to break my will-power and just start. Its proving difficult to say no.

Any R/R/CS? I am so excited for vacation! I need to get out of work. Its been 3 months since my last vacation and clearly that is too much time to be at work without a trip. Im spoiled.

@mokay19 I am so sorry you are back here

@NYTino24 I wanna try cupping! Mostly because I am curious how it feels/what it does.

  • @kiwi2628 I wasn't using it for fertility, but it can be used for that for both males and females.

  • @Kiki75 I feel the same way about wanting to get the show back on the road.  Especially since my doctor mentioned waiting a cycle after but I don't have regular cycles so that would mean waiting over 2 months just to get an effing period from the eventual medicine that they'll have to prescribe.  I'm so glad that through this hard time you had such a good experience with your doctors.  I, also, was very happy how they treated me and the situation and I agree that I would have probably slapped a ho if I had been treated the way that some women have been.
What does your DH do that he's at such high risk for Zika?  We live on the panhandle of Florida and my DH treated all his uniforms with some insect repellent stuff (I can't remember the name now but it's supposed to last a few cycles in the was even), would that be an option for your DH to help?
PS:  I didn't even go into work today because I didn't want to deal with people #noregrets
  • He is a commercial pilot. So far we've been lucky enough that he's been able to avoid a lot of the areas of concern and the couple times he has had to go to Mexico, it has just been for a little over an hour or so in the middle of a bunch of concrete. So... so far so good but I just feel like it's going to keep spreading and the overnights in places like Hawaii are pretty long. Realistically the risks are low but it's at least concerning enough that the cycle before I did get KU my doctor started talking about if we could afford it maybe we should look into freezing sperm in case this whole thing really gets out of hand. Does the stuff you can treat clothes with stay on there through dry cleaning? I think of how stressed out by it I am and then I think of people like you who live in Florida (and other places). I so hope that the scientists have some amazingly brilliant ideas and good luck developing the vaccine.

What brings you here? Status post loss a week ago today.

How long do you think you'll be here? I'm hoping maybe a month. I have everything crossed that my body rebounds quickly.

How have things been going? They're going. I'mma be like @Kiki75 because gifs work better than words.

I'm still heartbroken and angry, but trying to accept all of my feelings as normal and part of the grieving process. Now that the bleeding seems to have stopped, I feel like I have something to start looking forward too in terms of waiting for AF and starting over.

Any R/R/CS? Nothing right at this moment. I didn't get to temp this morning because DS was a grumpy, sleepless little bugger last night.

GTKY: I thought "soap" for some reason, but the gif I want isn't working and that makes me angry. But then I thought "Snape" because I love him and found this. Kind of appropriate for me right now.

  • @Scarlett830 We are going to Portugal! Thats the big one, but also this fall the finger lakes in upstate NY, Lexington, KY and maybe florida. We travel a lot.
  • That sounds fantastic @kiwi2628! Years ago I made a bucket list and said I wanted to hit 40 countries by the time I'm 40, but I'm kind of behind. I've only got just under 9 years and 33 countries to go. Whoops. But Portugal is definitely high up on my list.

What brings you here? Travel to an area with active zika virus

@kiki75 Sawyer was what my husband used on his uniforms (the permethrin is the ingredient that works in that I believe). He just treated them outside and let them dry out there. It seems to be working well. He, also, sprays on Repel 100-- this is 98% DEET compared to normal Off that's like 25% DEET. I get spray bottles of that off amazon for like $5 a bottle.
  • I am crossing my fingers for everyone in the south. I read this article that said its spreading to more parts of Florida and a friend who just had her baby in SC said it has been reported there too. :shttps://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/zika-virus-outbreak/images-show-zika-s-destruction-babies-brains-n636511

What brings you here? Going to Jamaica in 3 weeks where we could possibly be exposed to Zika.

How long do you think you'll be here? 8 weeks after we get back, so December.

How have things been going? We're not having enough sex, but I'm going to let it go for now. When we're not TTA anymore, he's going to be BDing on command, so I'll let him rest for now. I'm so anxious to ttc.

Any R/R/CS? I'm so effing busy right now. I haven't been able to Bump hardly at all. I'm so stressed about everything. I'm having another anovulatory cycle. I'm just getting more and more discouraged and depressed about my chances of getting KU when I haven't ovulated since March. I stopped temping because it's kind of pointless right now anyway.

What brings you here?   Blighted Ovum--D&C on July 20th.

How long do you think you'll be here?  I took my last dose of Provera this morning.  Just waiting to start my first period post D&C.

How have things been going?  I just hate uncertainty of not knowing when I will get my period.  Also, I am stressing about how the dates will fall for our IUIs.  The month of September will be fine, but in October, my husband and I are supposed to go out of town for 4 days with a bunch of friends for a trip he has planned.  He has said if the September IUI does not work and the next one falls on the dates we will be gone, he will not go on the trip.  I hate for him not to go, so I think I will explore either using frozen sperm or seeing if I can delay when I take my Femara by a few days if the days I might need an ultrasound/IUI fall on the days we will be gone.  Just thinking out loud, here  ;)

@NYTino24 how are the marks on your back now?  I've never done cupping, but I'm intrigued by it!  Do you notice a different with your back?

@Kiki75 I feel the same way as you in terms of starting to try again.  My RE only recommended waiting until I get my first period after the D&C so that's what we are doing.  I hope you will be able to start trying again soon if that is what you want to do!

  • I'm so very sorry for your losses @jmn1985 and @GG620. It's all so hard and royally sucks to be post loss, but hang in there! Sending you lots of awkward internet stranger hugs.

@soemthingclever I'm so sorry you're feeling stressed and bummed about your cycles right now. Does your doc have any advice/info about why you aren't ovulating right now, or a plan to try to kickstart your body? More hugs for you, too!

Also, we were in Jamaica in May for literally less than 48 hours for a wedding. I got bit a lot (I always do) and my OB had submitted information to the local CDC about whether I needed blood work after I got my BFP in June. I am still waiting to hear back from them, and honestly have no clue if there was active Zika transmission there when we were there.
  • @beary67 I'm glad you finally finished your Provera. I usually (3/4 times) got my period within 3 days of finishing Provera.
Also, I'm doing better. My bleeding has slowed to just spotting and the cramping has stopped. DH has been gone all week and out of communication so I cannot wait for him to come home tonight just to have some comfort for the weekend. I get blood drawn on Monday to check my hcg levels so I'm glad to have that planned and hopefully I won't run into anymore bumps.
The worst part about this for me is the waiting. I'll have to wait until my next period (or until they'll give me Provera) and then we have to wait until we move to see the new doctor and then we have to wait until that doctor is satisfied and ready to do a medicated cycle. I hate waiting.
  • Ladies, I am so sad to see you all having losses. I don't even know what to say. It just isn't fair! But I am glad to see this thread being used throughout the week. Let's hope this time passes quickly.

@beary67 The cup marks are all still there. A few are mostly dark one the outside and faded on the inside. The rest are still decently dark. There are a lot of factors that affect my back - weather, amount of time commuting, how long I sleep, how much I sit, and how much exercise I get. I'm out of chiropractic visits until I switch to DH's insurance. My SS card should come next week and then I can get all of that rolling.

It's funny how it's the little things in life that mean the most...not where you live, or what you drive, or the price tag on your clothes... There's no dollar sign on a piece of mind, this I've come to know! *ZBB*

  • Late to the party, as usual.
I hate to see so many losses. My heart goes out to you guys.
@mokay19 My heart broke when I saw you were posting in this thread. Take care

@beary67 That Provera is taking its sweet time. I'm sorry you're still in limbo

@LadyMillil Your RE needs to get their freaking act together. I'm sorry.

@Scarlett830 That's crazy that it took so long. Hopefully you get your results soon. I have PCOS, so I ovulate maybe 3 times a year if I'm lucky. I had an OBGYN appt this month to get a referral to a RE, but it got pushed to a month from now. I've gained a TON of weight, so my regular doctor is pretty convinced my PCOS is because of my weight. That just adds to my depression and guilt. If I was a stronger person, I could lose weight and get KU. But since I'm a weak failure, I'm never going to get KU. I'm told I have some control so I feel like a freaking jerk when there are other people with IF and they can't do anything about it. It's so discouraging,

  • I am so sorry for all of the losses. I hope we can all start ttc again soon!

    Are you benched or TTA?
    Benched

    What brings you here?
D&C June 18. Still no period. It's day 70 something. I hate looking, it's depressing.

How long do you think you'll be here?
I started Provera today. So I guess however long that takes to do its job!

    How have things been going?
DH and I had a great trip this week! It was so nice to relax and spend so much time together. We were at a fishing cabin in the middle of no where just the two of us. Beautiful and quiet all week. Perfect way to end summer! I'm a teacher and have to start going back in this week. School doesn't start here until after Labor Day though!

    Any R/R/CS?
    Nope.
