Re: UO Thursday 8/18

  • See, the one thing I don't get is if there is a really concerning symptom, not a bunch of people talking about nausea and lightning crotch, I think it's own thread is fine.  My example is going to be headaches because I have had one for over 24 hours and can't shake it.  When there was a post like that, I could find it, read it, use tips, all while battling my massive headache.   Trying to remember  if if was discussed in last week's 10 page symptoms thread is not helpful.

I do appreciate the organization and daily / weekly posts.  I am just crabby because, well, headache.

I agree. And there have a been a few of those cases and I think those are fine. It's the morning sickness ones that everyone hates haha

  • I think liking showers is my UO. I think they're a really nice tradition. I'd love to host one. I've gotten to seriously help with a couple but keep getting shut out from main host by moms and sisters. If you guys can't tell, planning and organizing stuff is real fun for me.

I have never, however, experienced the type of stuff you are talking about, @yogadevil. That would turn me off, too. Showers I go to or are help with are usually pretty traditional on etiquette.
  • @Xstatic3333 I get called old fashioned, in a bad way, because traditional etiquette just seems like a no brainer to me.

I guess this is an UO considering today's posts but I love all desserts. Cake, cookies, pies, brownies, cheesecake, donuts, ice cream...you name it. Give me alllll the desserts.

Fun fact, I was at one point enrolled in baking school.
    Me too, for both!

And yes, you're doing it wrong if you're making a new post for every.single.thing when there are designated posts for them.  If you don't like it, there's a big red X in the top right hand corner of the page.

Click there and save us all the whining.
I think this was unnecessarily harsh.
We can agree to disagree.  At this point, so much of the same thing has been repeated over and over.  It begins to get redundant to have the same conversations every few days.

My intention isn't to be harsh but perhaps it's my frustration showing.  I just wish people would stop trying to change what's already been established.
I didn't think it was harsh. But, I'm not exactly a sugar coater.....

  • I understand how @2014poppy might not get the appeal of the organization at first if she's used to a traditional forum where you visit a thread once and move on. It took me awhile to realize that the threads here do not work that way. Once you get used to visiting the same threads again and again, you get why it works so well. It creates a real community instead of a clusterfuck.

@PerraSucia Gotta disagree about the botox! I guess my UO is that I think it's the best thing ever when used with restraint. (And the worst when not.) I totally love it and miss having it when I'm preggo/nursing.
  • Mine will probably be an UO, RE starting a new thread.  I think that everyonce in a while there might be something talked about that dominates a thread which probably means that a new thread should be started.  Like in the randoms the other day there was a lot of craft talk and food prep talk.  I think someone (anyone) could say.. Hey lets start a thread for that, and then that conversation be moved there.  I am sure this could apply to most threads..

And since FFFC isn't up yes cause its early.  I would have an irrational fear of starting a thread, I agree with the organization, but I would fear that what is important to me may not be important to the whole... so therefore ALL things go to randoms.. :)

  • @FishyMom Agreed with the UO and confession. Do we think most people avoid starting a new thread for fear of being flamed?

I don't know... its possible but I also have a fear of not being liked... although I have gotten over this a lot more since HS, but sometimes with newer people I can feel it creep back.

I am full of FFFCs today.

Maybe a good career for you could have been an event coordinator!! I would completely trust you to take over a party of any type for me and do amazing!!

Thanks! Coordinator is in my job description and I get to plan a lot of educational events, so that's fun :)
  • @xstatic333 I agree you have always been polite and normally the threads that are started and are redirected are worthy of doing so.  So I think you should keep fighting that good fight!  I think this is a hot topic at the moment and probably will be until we all settle into the eb and flow of the board.  I apologize for bringing it up.... again.

  • It's all good @FishyMom. Agreed, it's a hot topic right now.
  • @NiceyMeany That's true. I was just wondering if because of the emphasis on order and because the general consensus is to post in an established thread, were some people nervous about starting threads of their own. I wasn't trying to assume or suggest anything, just kind of asking.

I like the way its run here. When I go to other boards I don't find it nearly as entertaining as when I stay here.
  • @tentacular I don't think I've ever seen it done well. Maybe I have and just didn't notice it was done? Most people look like aliens
  • @PerraSucia  I'm totally with you on glass-smooth alien face... I don't get why anyone would want to look like that! It's almost unnoticeable when it's subtle. I look about my age without it, but with it, people are surprised to find out I'm in my 30's. I still look human, so that's a win.
  • @PerraSucia I would think when it's done well you wouldn't know it's been done!
  • I've been waiting a few weeks for this one but my UO this week is that I can't stand the color pink. My poor girl is going to get called "handsome" way more often than "pretty" for the first year or two because I cannot make myself buy pink. Cannot. Greens and blues and some tasteful neutrals... but I have all the wrong associations with the color pink. When she is old enough to have an opinion I'll cave, but for now... all the safari prints for me!
  • I don't think I've ever bought a piece of pink clothing, house hold stuff etc for myself.
Now I have a child who won't wear something unless it's pink, frilly, sparkly or all of the above
This is Ash to a T. I swear, if I didn't know for sure I didn't give birth to her, I'd swear up and down that she wasn't mine based on her love for all things girly and frilly. I guess whatever floats her boat...

  • My absolute favorite sleepers for my daughter was a dinosaur one I got her! @Janefelicity
  • @LaurenAshley04 i suspect there will be a lot of dinosaur stuff for our little girl as my husband is big on dinosaurs! There is already a stormtrooper onesie for her too!
