Re: UO Thursday (8/18/16)

  • Going off a conversation on a previous thread - I am not a fan of suntans. I try to protect myself from the sun as much as possible. My mom does outside work and doesn't bother to wear sunscreen, and her arms are just so brown. I think people look best with their natural skin tone.

  • I have zero desire to embrace the paste... But fears of skin cancer keep me lathering up on the sun screen. That doesn't mean I won't spray tan now and then.
  • I don't go tanning anymore, but I'm not as religious about my sunscreen as I probably should be. So if we spend a day out in the sun, I usually get some color and I don't worry about it too much. Not because I'm ignorant to the problem it could cause, but what's done is done. I try to be better the next time.

  • I thought the 50 shades of grey series was good. I liked them. Watched the first movie and can't wait for the second one to come out.

  • @Schell2013 I haven't actually read them because I dislike the author for personal reasons, so I can't really judge anyone who likes them. But most of the girls I work with love them and are very upset about my firm decision to never support EL James.

  • I wear sunscreen, but am all about laying out in nice weather to get a tan.

50 Shades - books were so poorly written, but were definitely hot. I never saw the movie.

  • I embrace my paste. But I would definitely try out a spray tan. Sometimes "Jesus you need some sun!" And "Are you sick?" get old.
  • I love getting a tan!

@krzyriver I'm with you on not reading Fifty Shades. But that's a combo of my conservative Catholicism and my love of actual literature. (I've read excerpts online and I know I wouldn't make it through with the bad writing, even if I didn't mind the subject matter.)

  •  I try and use a lot of sunscreen- but I am a person that thinks everyone looks better with a tan. This product is awesome to give your face a bronzed glow.

  • @bamacoop Bad writing doesn't always turn me off. I've read plenty of books that aren't the best but the story was enjoyable. And I'm Christian, but I still enjoy my erotica. Lol. But understandable why those books are not for you.

Honestly, I would probably enjoy them (to an extent) if I read them. I just really, really hate that woman. Lol. No offense to anyone who likes them.

  • My UO: I keep ordering off etsy and I am constantly disappointed.
  • @krzyriver Yeah, I tend to read most anything except erotica or romance books, but I'm not one to say others shouldn't read it.

I'm uber Catholic and love...LOVE, Game of Thrones and I get looks for that. Also, you should've seen the faces of the people in my young adult group when I told them I had seen (and liked) Brokeback Mountain. I might as well have said I set a puppy on fire!

Whaaaaat?! No! Etsy is the best! Lol. Why were you disappointed? The quality of the products you bought?

  • @krzyriver yes! Like I've done invitations and for some reason they never print out the way I expect them to. The bday shirts I've ordered have been nice but it's mostly the paper products.
  • @scostel2 we have the baby in with us for 2-3 months but never longer. I'm very perplexed at long term "bed sharing" as well. I need my sleep, my time and time with my husband. The kids have their own space.

  • I.liked 50 shades , found it entertaining.

I'm a sunscreen Nazi, no joke. I'm the whitest person ever so I look at the sun and burn. I'm all for the spray tan.

Count me in on the no co-sleeping train. I'll have her in the bassinet in our room for 2-3 months but after that she has a beautiful nursery and crib.
  • 50 Shades was enjoyable simply for the content. The writing was horrible and I could have done without book 3 really.

Im a sunscreen nazi but I have olive skin that tans (sorry y'all!), so it doesn't matter what SPF I wear, I'm going to get color. I'm probably the most pale this summer simply because I'm way too hot to be outside much these days.

  • I too like 50 Shades, but I thought the movie could have been better, we will see what the next one is like.

I used to tan but not anymore, I do use sunscreen now though so I don't burn.

Baby will sleep in a bassinet in our room for the first few months, then into the crib in the nursery which is right across the hall. I would be too scared to roll on them to have them in my own bed.

  • I always said I wouldn't co sleep, but I'm in the 2 months too train and only because I'm lazy and will be nursing. Once the 2 months is up I want my bed and my FI back to myself
  • Usually i forget the sunscreen and burn once really bad in the summer. The burn then fades to a tan and i am able to keep it most of the summer.

I read the whole 50 shades series.  I wasn't very impressed with the movie.

I find the Olympics ro be extremely boring.

  • my ticker size comparison this week is Nutella. I hate Nutella
  • @AshleyGemini24 Also not a fan of the Olympics, but I really don't like sports to begin with.

@mrszoess I hate Nutella too!!! People think I'm crazy. Blech.

  • We didn't co sleep at first. LO did sleep in our room for the first 2 months but not in our bed. Around 9 months we started bringing him in our beds in the morning just to get more sleep. Sleeping in the rocker at 4am every morning was getting to be too much for both of us. Now we have an almost 3 year old that sleeps in his own bed but def comes in our room most nights around 3am and sleeps in bed with us. I am planning on borrowing a friends co sleeper this time around- I am having another c section and just think it will be easier for me. But baby will definitely be out of our room before I go back to work.... And while we aren't a cry of our family- I am going to try to not rock this one to sleep completely every single night.

@mrszoess - whaaaat?! Something is wrong with you, woman!

@scostel2 - same here... I have zero desire to co-sleep. I will have to be in a very desperate state for that to ever happen
  • @ashleygemini24 I agree about the Olympics. (Haven't and have no desire to read or see 50 Shades).

  • I didn't plan on co-sleeping at all.... but @LauraPCOS' post on FB is making me nervy now!!!
  • @sportiegrl1213 if one more person says that to me I'm gonna choke them
  • I also adamently planned when my first came along I wouldn't be sleeping with them. I didn't even buy a basinette cause I planned to put them into their own bed right from day 1.
Well that all went out the window after her traumatic delivery where they thought she would die when they were running into the OR. I couldn't put her down for months, and I was so beat up from my ECS that I couldn't even get out of bed so to go get her from her crib wasn't an option.

  • @books&icecream my husband (who is obviously black-african) sunburned for the first time in his life on our honey/babymoon. He was like "why does it feel like my back is on fire!!!"

side note: I sunburned at that time too (in April) and I still have discoloration on my arms. It's not super noticeable but it's weird and it's never happened to me before so I wonder if being pregnant had/has something to do with it.

  • I liked the concept of the 50 shades of grey books but got bored with the sex scenes, there's only so many ways you can say the same thing. Never saw the movie and no desire too.

i used to LOVE to tan. Constantly in tanning beds throughout high school and some of college. I use sunscreen now, but not on a daily basis. Only if I know I'll be outside for long periods in the sun.

We started DD in her crib in the nursery on night 3. Plan to do the same with this one, but I also plan to try breastfeeding again, so if it's successful we'll see what happens. I've learned that the best laid plans with babies always change.
  • @books&icecream... I totally use awe and never put a second of thought into it. But you're, obviously, totally correct. It's a misspelling. Guess I will be changing how I've been using that one lol
  • Parenting is the worst thing ever...but it's totally worth it! ;)
