@scostel2 - Our house is only one level, so that shouldn't be an issue for us. If we had stairs, I'd definitely go the "lazy" route, too!
@AllyTheKid - I think I would be the same way. Our friends who had a baby in May don't even use a monitor at all anymore. They said it made them paranoid and would keep them awake. I know we'll at least need an audio monitor because I can't sleep with our bedroom door open (weird, I know), but I'm thinking the video monitor is an added, unnecessary expense.
@F47 and @copperboom86 - it's so annoying. I know it's been like this for years, because it made me remember back to our wedding registry. We only got two gifts mailed from Target and never knew who sent either. So those people definitely think we're rude for not sending thank you notes, but we never knew who sent them and got no responses on FB about them.
Ugh, I'm annoyed about work. I want to ask for a raise, and deserve one if for no other reason but to make it equitable within my pay grade, but I have no backbone when it comes to talking about money. Maybe during next week's meeting with my boss.

@CopperBoom86 we got a video (and I was insistent) monitor because our house is two stories with the nursery being on the top floor and our bedroom on the bottom. The nursery is literally the farthest room away, so I was not going to be able to deal without the video. Had we had one story, I probably would have stuck with just the audio.
@books&icecream... I'm basically see through, especially in the middle of winter. My friend insisted I get a spray tan for her wedding so I told her I would if I didn't look ridiculous. She took me and insisted I try the dark tint. It was wonderful. If you ever decide to do it (FYI @AllyTheKid) I recommend spending time shaving, exfoliating and motioning up the night before just to help keep things even. And I always use all the additives they offer (so the primer and whatever it is that makes doubly sure you're not orange).
@F47 I'm so sorry for all that's going on. That pee in the potty text would have broken my heart
Random - gifts arriving off Target registry don't come with gift giver information. This is going to be a nightmare...I'm now hoping everyone gifts us items at the actual showers or from Amazon/BRU.
that's strange, everything we received in the mail off of our Target registry (about 8 items or so) came with a shipping slip that shows the billing name and address.
@AllyTheKid I'm a ginger so I get super pale. I use Jergens gradual tan during the summer to give me a little color. For spray tans, I have always liked them. I have realized that shaving and exfoliation are super important like @bnsmith85 said. And mine always look better on the third day. So, if I have an event Saturday, I usually would get my spray tan that Wednesday/Thursday. I never shower the night after (I try to spray after work) and that way I can shower at least twice in between.
Agreed re: the tan looking better after a couple of days. I'm going to prob get mine Thurs evening or Friday morning before work so I look best for my shower over the weekend
@bnsmith85@emmaaa I think I'll get one sometime PP, just to try it out and get a feel for how tan looks on me... I am THE white girl of the family, so it would be new for everyone haha
@CopperBoom86 I love my video monitor. I still have a camera in my almost 4 year olds room cause she is sneaky and likes to rip her dresser apart if she is bored and doesn't want to go to bed. It's also nice to see if they fall back asleep on their own cause seriously sometimes these kids talk, kick the wall, even fall out of bed and it's nice to know if I really have to go in or not. I think my video monitor is the one thing I couldn't live without. But I am outside almost every night after they go to bed and we camp a lot so it's good to see what's going on!

Ha... I always laugh at myself when I get one before vacation. Like when we were in Jamaica for our honeymoon I told DH... I'm one of the few people here getting more pale as the week goes on vs more tanned.

This. Plus I'm super paranoid. Plus we can check on the baby from our phones if we have a babysitter/when DH is out of town. Can y'all tell I'm a FTM yet???

@ibabyloveb87... The baby stalking while with a sitter is also something I've been happy about being able to do lol. @CopperBoom86- what others have said about being able to peek and see if she's content/playing by herself or starting to get fussy is nice. Used that when watching my friend's LO this weekend. It got me 30 more mins of rest than I would have gotten if I just had sound. OH, and when they get older, you can start looking to see if they're trying to climb out of the crib or just standing.

This. I find the video monitor to be WAY more useful now that DS is two. If he's fussing or calling for me I can look and see if he's sitting up, or close to going back to sleep. Also helpful to see if he covered up at night, or if I should go out the blanket back on him when I'm up to pee.
I check on him a lot with the video monitor, actually. But, we didn't use it when he was a baby. I felt like I was in there so much anyway! lol
@CopperBoom86 I didn't even want a monitor since my house is probably less than 1000sqft and the nursery door is about 6 feet from my bedroom door so any hiccup, fart or cough we'll be able to hear, but it was hubby that wanted a video monitor (he loves his techy stuff). The only thing I can see it being really beneficial for, of course besides what PP said about if he's actually fussing or not, is that we can put him down for a nap and go outside on the deck and still be able to see/hear him.
@CopperBoom86 - I don't have any advice about the video part, but if you go with just and audio one (or a video one), try to see if it has two way audio. There was a person that helped us with this decision because if it is two way, it means you can hear if they wake up and it's not necessary to come in and wake up the baby.. sometimes they just need to hear your voice.
Is anyone who is expecting in early October hoping for a late Sept baby so they have the option to enroll in kindergarten at 5? Maybe it's just me, but knowing we'd have to wait for an entire year because he is born 2 days after the cut-off drives me insane. I rather have the choice to decide based on his maturity/readiness.

Same here! We only have one story, but the baby's room is on the complete opposite end of the house as well. And I'm a super hard sleeper so at this point I'm trying to take all the precautions I can think of! I got a Snuza and a Babble band as well. Because nothing says paranoid FTM like overkill with ALL the devices.
On that note...I'm assuming (and hoping!) my sleep habits will change when she's here and my instincts will take over? Right now, once I get to sleep, I could probably sleep through a tornado and never know it. I'm terrified of not waking up if she needs me.
@Piperella That is something that irritated the shit out of me last year, DD was so ready for Pre-K last fall, she wouldn't stop talking about school, but they would NOT take her because her birthday is Oct 13th. They didn't offer placement evaluations or anything either, they just said "Nope, sorry, too young".
@Piperella I'm actually hoping for the opposite. In my state, the cut off is October 15 I believe. I'm due October 3 so I doubt I make it to the 15th. However, my birthday is October 30 so I was always the oldest in my classes. I think that gave me an advantage through school. I was almost a yea older than some people and you could tell. Maturity and comprehension. The transition to school was very easy for me.
Although, I do believe a lot this can have to do with the personality and deposition of the child and parental involvement. But there have been studies (I'm too lazy to find links) that say that the kids "older" for their grade tend to excel more. On the flip side of the coin, a very good friend of mine throughout high school was a year younger than me, but in the same grade, and she always excelled in many ways in school (we were in honors/AP classes together, played sports, extracurriculars, etc.)
@NoraAurora My ears perked up at the word drama. Lol. Off to lurk!
Can you tell I'm bored? Lol
We registered for a monitor but just an audio one. If we don't get it, I'll probably wait to purchase one until next summer. In the winter, you can hear everything going on in the house from any floor. The summer is harder just because the window AC unit is so loud.....
@F47 Ugh, I'm sorry for your rough day!! Hopefully you can doze while your little guy watches a movie... that "peepee on the potty" comment would have killed me!
@bnsmith85@spaceburger - I think that will be my motto post-preggo - "If I can't lose it, tan it!" 100% agree that a nice bronze glow makes me feel so much more comfortable with any chub...
Just had a meeting with my supervisors about prepping for when I leave for maternity leave... After telling them in APRIL that I was pregnant, and checking in with them several times since about a plan to cover for me, and getting no answers except that they were planning to have someone to fill in for me, TODAY they tell me that basically everything I do from October through December needs to be prepped or done in the next month (in case I need to go out early). Like, really? When I'm at my most uncomfortable and exhausted you NOW want me to work my tail off? *sigh* So, now I'm Bumping and FBing and Instagraming the rest of the afternoon instead of starting on my work because I just can't face it yet. I just want to go home and nest!
@ibabyloveb87 - that does seem early! Our schools don't start until after labor day, so maybe it has to do with when the school year starts. I just would prefer to help make the choice for my child rather than a date two days away from the due date being the deciding factor.
@LMNOBaby - I don't fault you at all for enjoying social media. We all need our time outs. That's a lot to ask of you!
I'm so so grateful to not actuall need handicap parking but lately, I wish I had a sign to hang on my rear view mirror that says "Please don't tow, I'm hugely pregnant and hot" and then I could just park right in front of wherever I'm going. I just ran out to target during lunch and it is 900 degrees and the store was a ZOO with back to school shopping. Now I'm soaked through with sweat and exhausted.

+1 for the video monitor. My kid doesn't always cry when she wakes up. If we hear her stirring we can just check the monitor. If we were to actually open the door to check on her it would just wake her up if she was still sleeping. She's pretty stealthy too, so it's nice to be able be able to see if she's just laying in bed talking to herself or climbing up on her rocker
@bnsmith85, gonna go check out the Nest Cam! I've never seen it, but that's probably because I do most of my shopping on Amazon.
ETA: aha! I know why it doesn't show up on my amazon searches! They don't classify it as a baby monitor on Amazon. So dumb! But thanks for sharing bnsmith! I'm excited to read the reviews.
Okay, okay. You guys have convinced me. Video monitor it is! Thanks for your opinions and advice
FYI we got the Motorola MBP834CONNECT and the picture is amazing. It's pricey, but we've been testing it by watching the dog and so far so good. The app is a little lagged, but not terrible- you just can't be impatient.
