TTC after 35

Intro-TTC #1 at 37

Hi everybody!

I'm Jenny and I have been lurking for a couple weeks. My husband and I just got married in May and started TTC right after the honeymoon. We did the same as everyone and just got off birth control hoping for the best. Three months later I'm all in on BBT tracking, using OPKs and FF.

When I got off the pill my system was crazy-3 periods in that first month but now it seems to have regulated but I haven't gotten CH on FF.  I bought the Clear Blue Advanced kit and after 8 strait high days and no peak, I gave up for this month.  We did BD EOD during the beginning of the high days but DH got frustrated so who knows if we were even close. FF thinks i possibly O'd on CD16 so if that's the case we BD'd on -1 and 1 and I'm 7 DPO.  AF is due later this week and I'm trying my hardest not to get my hopes up since I may have not even ovulated.

So, although I'm frustrated at this point, reading on this forum has been very helpful so thank you!  I look forward to chatting with you all.

p.s.  That was A LOT of abbreviations!  Hope I got them right!

  • Hello and welcome!   Just wanted to wish you lots of luck and share an experience I had with the Advanced CB OPK.  I had just started going to the RE, I was supposed to use OPK to tell them when I got a positive and then I would go in for a blood test/ultrasound to confirm ovulation.  I used the advanced and I got a bunch of highs but never the peak.  They told me to try the regular CB digital OPK, where it just tells you surge or no surge.  I used that the next month and they worked just fine, and many months have also been confirmed with the RE tests in addition to the positive OPK.

  • Thanks @jennh75b.  I just ordered Wondfo tests and a new BB thermometer because my temps were completely inconsistent this month with the cheap one I bought at Walmart. I might double up and get the regular CB kit to confirm. I'd atleast like to confirm that I'm ovulating at all!

  • Welcome @JennyV56!  Hope your stay here is short and sweet!

The TTGP board is another resource that is very active, in addition to here.  Please do keep hanging out with us "geriatrics," but there is helpful info over there for any age.  Just make sure to read the newbie thread that has this week's date on it (the one pinned at the top is outdated) and lurk awhile before jumping in, should you decide to.

One thing I learned over there is about Wondfo OPKs.  They are really cheap and work very well.  You can order them on Amazon...just make sure to check out the dealer's reviews to make sure they are legit.  They also make very inexpensive HPTs, BTW.

And you managed the acronyms very well!!

  • Welcome! I got the CB and wondfos and used them together for a few cycles just to confirm they were consistent. Once I got the hang of it I switched to wondfos alone. I can actually see the line getting darker now, so it's a good "get on it" indicator :)

  • Welcome @jennyv56!  You and I are on a similar timeline.  I also got married in May and we have been actively trying ever since.  OPK's are tricky so I also recommend a combo of digital and wonfos to indicate FW.  I hope your stay here is short!

  • Yup, what others said about using both CB and Wondfos until you get the hang of finding the positive on the Wondfo. I was sent the knock-off Wondfos once too and I've found those work just as well (I did many experiments). And when a Wonfdo expires, throw it away! It won't show a positive anymore.

Oh, and welcome! The TTGP board is a fantastic resource!
