Re: Appointments week of 8/15

  • @TeacherMom2517 were doing the same this saturday too cause im impatient & want to know if starlord is a boy or girl so i can start shopping!

  • @lfrank12 our place has a 'package' for $150 where you get two appointments, one between 14-24 weeks and one between 25-34 weeks. The first appt is 15 minutes and the 2nd is 30 minutes and they come with 6 photos, a DVD of the whole visit, 4D video clips, gender reveal, baby's weight and a gift bag. You can also do 'live' streams and have people sign in from anywhere in the world to watch (if you have family or friends far away)

@janefelicity that's why we're doing it! We will be 16 weeks and I just can't wait four more weeks! I want to go shopping and be able to tell people (they all keep referring to baby as a girl and I keep getting annoyed reminding them theres a 50/50 chance it's a boy...) We also don't want to social media reveal the pregnancy until we know so that we can just give all the info right there and not have a million questions!

  • @Gingersnap Congratulations on the test results! Now you can celebrate....by shopping!!

  • @Gingersnap yay to healthy babies!

I know absolutely nothing about this baby yet. It feels so weird. I haven't even heard the heartbeat on Doppler. No ultrasounds, no nothing. I could be having quintuplets for all I know. But I got my blood draw for the genetic test (since I'm old AF) and the first thing I'll know about this little one is the sex and genetic risks. I'm not sure why that seems strange to me, but it does. My first pregnancy I got to see my dancing little gummy bear, and it was so reassuring. We're due to listen to the heartbeat next appointment, but that's not for two weeks. :-/

    Not even a dating U/S?
  • @Gingersnap No, I guess most midwives don't do a dating ultrasound unless your cycles are irregular. They just go by your last period. I didn't realize that, since I started with an OB the first pregnancy and switched to a midwife after first tri. It's not a huge deal, but I did love that experience with my first and have been missing it this time around. Plus, I could be having twins for all I know (which of course I doubt, but it might explain my ginormous alien bump at 12 weeks) which seems like something that might be nice to know...? It's all just a bit odd, but apparently this is all standard practice with midwives.

  • My neurologist is so awesome! He just got back from vacation and called me himself. I didn't even have to put in another message! He's quite sure the headaches are still from the concussion and increased vomiting is also related to that. Headaches are not so severe today as last week so I told him I don't want any treatment. And since I don't have insurance right now he said I can just call him for anything. Sweet!
Also, this part probably should go into FFFC but I'm just going to put it here..... he's so hot!! I get so shy when I see him.  I'm like a little 13 year old.  Can't stop smiling and all blushy.

  • I have my initial appointment with a brand new OB on Thursday. I had to switch since we had to move. I still haven't had any ultrasounds or any bloodwork. I'm with you peachesnbean and I think someone else said it too on having a weird feeling about things. Tentacular, I hear ya I would like to know if it's twins or not too. Between the constant comments and the actual size of my stomach I would like to know wtf is going on. Or just for the simple reassurance everything is going alright.
  • I have an appointment today and we are hopefully going to hear the heartbeat for the first time. I'm 13w5d, so the Doppler should get it, right? I'm also getting the results from the maternal serum test.

  • @tentacular I see midwives and still had a dating US, so I don't think it's standard practice. It may be okay, since to my layman's understanding dating is the only purpose of the dating US, but standard it is not.
  • Had my NT Scan yesterday, we were so excited to see our little bean after waiting so long. Everything looks great, our tech believes she knows what it is but we'll have to wait until our next appointment in 4 weeks for confirmation. I have to go back every 2 weeks from 16 weeks to 24 weeks for cervical checks and growth checks because when I was pregnant with my twins I was put on bedrest at 21 weeks for shortened cervix. Anyway the doctor said that if my cervix don't open past 30 millimeters thank I'm in the all clear and we won't have to monitor them anymore.

Guys can someone help me, I'm really confused. Last Tuesday I had my NT US scan and my Sequential Screening. I had a vial of blood drawn. What is this linked to? - The NT or the Sequential? I called my OB and they said they don't have the results yet from the blood work. The lab office posted online saying the results were up but nothing was listed. I called the lab and they said that they cant give any results until the second drawing is done at 15 weeks. My OB said I don't need to come in for the 15 week appointment unless I want to (which is just a check up really). I was under the impression I wouldn't need a second blood draw unless something was wrong. My NT US scan came back as normal... I'm confused.

EDIT to day that this is really the first time I've cried "for no reason". Thankfully I'm in a conference room by myself for the day.... but still, I just want consistency

I ended up declining the NT and associated bloodwork, but as it was explained to me when we talked about it, the NT scan always comes with two blood draws. The combo of the two draws and the NT tells you your approximate risk for certain chromosomal conditions. Therefore, having a second draw should be normal. I'm sure one the ladies who is also doing it can give better input but you seem worried so I thought I'd give a quick response.
  • When I had my NT scan they did the US and just a finger prick to get 5 drops of blood. I got the results about a week later. They never said anything about another blood draw. I would call your doc for a better explanation.

  • @Xstatic3333 thank you I appreciate that! I ended up being the crazy FTM and calling the OB back and explaining what the lab told me. They said they had a new system and they had a couple questions like this which made me feel better. She researched it and came back quick and said that if there was an elevated level after the first draw, I would hear something. I have to still go for the second but no news is good news is what she said pretty much. And that coupled with the normal US, I think I am comfortable announcing now. I mean you can never know 100% for sure but if all signs point to it being okay, that is a little weight off my shoulders.
  • NT Scan is tomorrow morning!! I am excited and a little nervous, but can't wait to see the little munchkin. Happy everyone has had good NT scans so far...hopefully I will too
  • @peachesnbean heard the HB and saw the little girl kicking today, Fx your appointment goes equally well together!!!

  • @Xstatic3333 That's odd! I know my midwife would have done one if my cycles weren't regular (which they are) but I interviewed three different midwives before choosing one and they all said they generally forego the dating US for patients with regular cycles. Which is why it seemed like it must be the standard. Wonder if that's just standard practice in my area. Sad! Was just looking at the gummy bear photos from my son's US and feeling a bit wistful.
  • @MrsDramaK - thats wonderful!! I will keep you updated, thank you so much. :)

  • I have an echo on Friday. My ob wanted an updated one since I haven't had one since 2014 with my 1st. Fun fun!
  • I had my first appointment with a new OB. I didn't get to see her though, just the nurse. She had trouble finding the heartbeat just like my old OB did where I used to live. She was just about to give up and actually said, "sorry Hun I think I you need an ultrasound ASAP so we can see what's going on in there." I haven't had an ultrasound yet and hadn't heard the heartbeat either so I'm laying there about to start panicking when all of a sudden, there it was, loud and clear. Even the np looked extremely relieved and said it sounded perfect. This kid is already an asshole, great lol I finally had all my bloodwork done today too. They scheduled me for my first ultrasound for September 15th, but I'm assuming that's just the A/S anyway because I will be just about 19 weeks at that point. I think my next regular OB appointment will be 9/9, but it won't even be with the one I specifically wanted to see. That one I won't get to see until October because of how booked she is and going on vacation for 2 weeks next month also. I'm also supposed to see a new PCP on 9/7 who I just found out is also an OB so I might just end up switching to her anyway. I can literally walk to her office. Now I'm on to trying to convince H we should stay team green. Probably not going to happen, but I'm gonna try.
